I booked for 3 nights, but I left right after checking in. |Upon check-in, there wasn't a welcoming attitude; we had to guide the receptionist through the check-in procedure since she did not seem to know what questions to ask. She did not cross-check anything and didn't even know whether we had paid for the booking. |We then were sat before the receptionist left without telling us where or what was happening. After a few minutes, she returned to take us to a room where the toilet wasn't working, not hot water and a pair of slippers in the room.||The building looked unkept, dirty and old; we left right away to look for another hotel, as we returned to check out after an hour the receptionist laughed when then kept us 20 minutes to take tax payment from us despite the PDQ machine not working due to connection whilst making inappropriate comments.|We asked for the GM's name and email address, to which she responded, "I don't have that information." Read moreI'll be honest and say that my personal experience was perhaps 'bad luck' and overall, this is a beautiful hotel and quite good value!||||Pros:||- Location: walking distance to the tourist drab of the Stone Town, yet within a more authentic part of Stone Town; also very close to the port and night market||- Staff: very friendly and helpful||- Rooms: very nice, with daily cleaning etc.||- Breakfast on the rooftop is nice||- Wifi is fairly strong||- Historic building, very atmospheric||||Cons:||- My personal experience was that my toilet didn't flush because the water pressure was turned off. Despite a 3 night stay, this was not fixed which meant I literally had to ask permission before using the toilet (for them to temporarily turn on the pressure).
