Simply put, a terrific hotel all around!
Location is more than ideal for transiting - located only a short walk (connected via sky bridge) from DMK international airport. I was able to walk to and from the terminal in a matter of minutes (5-10 mins). Signage is excellent throughout the terminal and also within the hotel and so there was absolutely no confusion about where to go. I stayed here two nights in total, while transiting in and out of DMK, and it made my transit experience very simple and pleasant.
Reception and staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I stayed at the hotel in and around Christmas and so the hotel was beautifully decorated and hotel staff were in the festive spirit (it was nice for me to be in the presence of the Christmas spirit, because all travellers at one time or another, start to miss home)! Reception and check-in were extremely efficient, and fast. I was given a free room upgrade as well as a credit of 135 THB to use towards food and drink at the hotel as part of my booking terms. All staff were so gracious and courteous! Check-out was also exceptionally quick, and I was on my way to the terminal within minutes.
Rooms were spacious and so comfortable. Beds were luxurious and linens were clean and crisp! Pillows were the perfect softness-firmness as was the mattress. I slept so well, I didn't want to leave the bed to catch my early morning flight. Room amenities were generous and much appreciated including: shampoo and gel (in shower dispenser for both), 2 dental kits, 2 shower caps, vanity kit, sanitary bags, a little packet of detergent, and dispenser hand soap. 2 bathrobes and 2 pairs of slippers were also provided. Toilet paper was in generous supply.
The room was equipped with flatscreen tv, basic channels (like BBC world news) and a handful of movie channels (but not all in English), an electric kettle, wine opener, 2 large coffee mugs with spoons, 4 large bottles of water (in glass bottles), tea, Nescafé packets, milk powder packets, and a variety of different sugars and sweeteners.
Lighting in the room was very nice and cozy, with the option of having master lights or just bed side lights. There was also a master control panel next to the bed, which controlled lighting in the room, clock, alarm clock, and room service requests.
Food at the hotel was superb, but a bit on the pricey side (as expected for a 4-star hotel). I had the grilled salmon with side seasonal vegetables and a Caesar salad. Both dishes were delicious and provided the tastes of home (BC, Canada)! I was able to apply my 135 THB credit towards my meal. My flight was too early in the morning to enjoy the breakfast buffet the first night I stayed there, but I did partake the second stay. The breakfast buffet was delicious and provided so many options! I ate like a queen. There was a little coffee station, and so many fresh and hot foods to choose from. Best buffet breakfast ever!
Luggage storage was also an option at this hotel, and so I was able to leave my backpack at the hotel for a week and pick it up on return on my second night! This was a much appreciated service!
Overall, just a wonderful hotel! Perfectly located for transiting passengers, and provided a comfortable overnight stay. Most definitely I would stay at this hotel if I find myself again in Bangkok, transiting or visiting. Highly recommend for transiting passengers especially.
Thank you to all of the staff for providing Christmas spirit and cheer! It put a...
Read moreGreat place for a one-night stay for anyone needing to travel to Don Mueng Airport, as the hotel is connected to the airport through an internal bridge. You can easily walk to Terimal 1 in around 5 minutes and Terminal two within 10 minutes.
Pros: Convenient location, as stated above. Spacious room with a large restroom & balcony. There is also a big desk and a medium-sized sofa. (Ours is Grand Deluxe room). The breakfast at Zeppelin restaurant was quite impressive with its diverse selection of cuisine. (I wrote a separate review on this). The dinner at the Corner restaurant was pleasant thanks to the evening live music show. (Also wrote a separate review on this). There are double curtains, and so it does a great job at blocking sunlight, contributing to our uninterrupted sleep. Staffs are all polite. While they may not assist you right away, they all become helpful when asked/requested. The room comes with complimentary 4 TWG tea bags, 4 local coffee capsules, and 4 bottles of glass water. There is a fairly large pool downstairs and a decent gym on the 5th floor.
Cons: Terrible parking lot. Not only that it is outdoor, it is far from the entrance of the hotel and you need to cross an extremely steep bridge to walk through it. Fortunately, the guard at the parking lot listened to my concerns and allowed me to park in the area near the entrance instead. Without this assistance, I would have to carry my heavy luggages through that steep bridge, which would have been a really tiring experience, I think. Weird restroom design. I understand the restroom being a Thai style whereby the whole area of the restroom would be wet, including the sink and toilet, but it could be dangerous for old people as they can easily slip. (There is no curtail/wall between the bathtub and the rest of the room). The balcony door was poorly designed, making it really difficult to close from the inside of the room. I think a child will not be able to close the balcony door by him/herself. The hotel is already old. So, there are many spots where you feel like you are in an old space, like the bridge across the airport and the smell you get when first entering the room. I couldn't helped but question the cleanliness of the mat used in the room, as there seems to be many stains which I doubt has been cleaned properly. This is fine of adults as we can use the slippers provided. But if I were to come with a child, I would tell the child not to sit or play on the floor...
Read moreOur stay here was disappointing and we shall not be returning. To be clear this was not our first stay here and we have visited this property multiple times. However, this is the first time to experience such a let down from Amari.|There were problems with the room from the toilet leaking to an electric blowout that killed one of my phone chargers.||It first started with the toilet leaking where they came in and supposedly fixed it but it kept leaking the same. We were inconvenienced to have to go down to use the lobby restroom for 2 hours after the fix that didn’t happen. This was highly disappointing from a service standpoint. We have never expended anything like this in more than 20 years of traveling globally.|We then chose to ask for a towel to wrap around the base because we had a lot of luggage and didn’t want to spend an hour repacking everything to move rooms. ||Then in the afternoon there was an electrical malfunction in the room that resulted in the partial electrical function in the room, flickering lights, alarms ringing, etc. |I called the front desk and housekeeping came promptly but they were unable to fix it so they said that a technician would come by. We waited for over an hour and no technician came. Thus we called the front desk again and they said they would send someone. We went to dinner for and came back a few hours later to the room with nothing fixed at all.||I had to go down to the front desk in person to get them to send someone, and it still took over 40 minutes for anyone to come. At this point my son was ready to go to bed and he just said that he would go check the main electrical system.||We then had to move rooms late at night to put my son to sleep. The room was old and musty and a serious downgrade to the previous room we were in. We had to wash the glasses and bottles ourselves since they were dirty and we notified the front desk again that the room smelled of like someone smoked there. At that point my son was sleeping and we didn’t want to move rooms again. ||Finally, upon check out no one asked us about our stay or about what happened. I was too tired to complain again at that point and the receptionist was confused as to why we had so many room keys. I understand that she was a trainee and had no idea about what happened yesterday but we expect better from Amari. Safe to say this is the last time we will be staying at this property and will explore...
