An Unexpected Experience That Shook My Trust in Nagiya Thonglor
📍 Visited: August 5, 2025 👥 2 guests, around 8:00 PM
I’ve been a loyal customer of Nagiya for years — especially this Thonglor 9 branch, as well as Gateway Ekkamai and Rama 4. I’ve even recommended it to many friends.
But this visit left me shocked.
Due to full tables on the 1st and 2nd floors, we were guided to sit on the 3rd floor, which had several families with young kids running around. I wasn’t upset — just concerned for safety — so I politely asked a female staff member if a table downstairs might become available. She kindly said she would check.
While quietly waiting near the 2nd floor (not disturbing anyone), a male staff member (Japanese, named Katsu) approached and abruptly said:
“Upstairs is your table. You either sit there or you don’t sit.”
I calmly explained in English that I was only concerned about the kids running. His reply?
“I’m not speak Chinese,” with a dismissive head shake.
I was stunned. I’m Thai — and was clearly speaking English.
I told him again I wasn’t refusing to sit, just asking a question. He repeated his tone, and I returned to sit at the 3rd floor as originally offered.
Later, he came up and said a table was free downstairs. I said politely: “No thanks, and I’d prefer not to speak with you again. You are so rude.”
He replied, “Sorry.” As he walked down the stairs beside my table, he made a loud sarcastic “Wooowww” sound.
I still paid and finished the meal, but the damage was done.
The comment “I’m not speak Chinese” was especially inappropriate — not just unprofessional, but borderline discriminatory.
Thankfully, the female staff member was lovely — polite, attentive, and everything I’ve come to expect from Nagiya.
But this one experience from a single staff member truly affected how I see the brand.

Read moreNagiya Thonglor 9 is the kind of izakaya that makes you feel like you’ve just stepped into a back alley in Tokyo—without the need for a passport 🇯🇵🍶. This place is all about Japanese comfort food, grilled skewers, and a lively, no-frills drinking atmosphere, making it a go-to spot for after-work gatherings and late-night feasts.
The menu is packed with izakaya classics—from juicy yakitori skewers 🍢 and crispy karaage fried chicken 🍗 to sizzling hot pots that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside 🔥🍲. The portions are generous, the flavors are bold, and if you’re a fan of Japanese beer or highballs, you’ll fit right in here 🍺🥃.
The downside? It gets packed fast, and the space is on the smaller, cozy side, so be ready to squeeze in (or better yet, make a reservation). The service is efficient but leans toward the “busy Tokyo izakaya” style—fast-paced and straight to the point, so don’t expect anyone to pamper you.
Overall, Nagiya Thonglor 9 is a great spot for solid Japanese food, cold drinks, and a lively atmosphere. Perfect for when you’re craving some yakitori with a side of good vibes. Just be ready for the crowd—and maybe wear something loose if you plan...
The first time I visited this restaurant, I had a very unpleasant experience. While my friends and I were speaking Chinese, I noticed a sudden change in the staff's attitude. It seemed that after hearing us speak, their demeanor toward us became cold and dismissive. In particular, one male waiter—who appeared to be leading the service team—seemed unwilling to serve us. He avoided our table throughout the meal and only came over when we were paying the bill. I also noticed that he greeted other foreign customers when they left, but said nothing to us.
The second visit was even more disappointing. The chicken we ordered had a strong, unpleasant smell, suggesting it may have been spoiled. I called the waiter to confirm the issue, but instead of checking the dish properly, he simply took it to the kitchen and came back shouting that there was nothing wrong with the food, claiming that many tables had eaten it without complaint. I felt this reaction was unprofessional and dismissive.
What made the situation worse was his repeated assumption that we were Japanese, even though I was clearly speaking Chinese and using a translator to communicate in English. Despite understanding my English, he insisted on using Japanese phrases, which felt like a deliberate attempt to mock or avoid genuine communication.
At the end of the meal, before we had even finished getting ready to leave, the same waiter loudly "welcomed" us back next time in an exaggerated tone, then immediately stopped cleaning the table once we left.
Overall, I left with the strong impression that we were treated differently based on our language or nationality. While I understand that misunderstandings can happen, I believe that every customer deserves respect and fair treatment—regardless of where they're from or what language they...
