I cannot recommend this place enough! One of the most enjoyable, hospitable, and welcoming places I have ever stayed in my life. This resort is quintessentially Thailand and represents and embodies everything that makes this country the closest thing we can hope to ever find of heaven on Earth. From the moment I stepped off the boat and onto the beach, until the very end when departing back to the mainland, I felt as if the resort was like a home away from home.
The staff, the resort itself (including the accommodations, the prompt, timely, and attentive service, and the amazing food menu), and the lodging, were simply incredible.
Even though I only stayed there for two nights with my precious and beloved girlfriend, every moment was a pure delight. The manager and her family who own and operate the resort were so kind, and time and again went out of their way to make me us comfortable, contented, and taken care of.
To illustrate the point, when we left the island and had already boarded the ship to return to the mainland, I realized at the last minute that I had forgotten my phone in the lobby. The manager called one of the staff there and had them rendezvous with us at another one of the piers that we had to stop at before finally reaching the mainland. I do not know how they accomplished this on such short notice or how they were able to act so quickly, but suffice it to say that it really touched my heart and perfectly demonstrates just how dedicated the staff at the resort are to maintaining the highest level of customer service and taking care of their guests. It was really mind-blowing. I cannot thank them enough!
Another example is when my girlfriend was feeling under the weather, the staff helped with a simple, soothing, and effective remedy for her ailment. She immediately began to feel better, and I really am thankful that they were there to help me take care of her.
I could write so much more, but if you want to find a quiet, peaceful, and beautiful getaway where you can completely relax and leave the world behind, this is the place for you. Not only did this resort serve as a constant reminder of why Thailand feels like home, but it also made me feel as if the resort was also where I belonged. Even though we have just returned from our trip, I hope my girlfriend and I can return to this resort many, many more times over the coming years.
P.S., If you like friendly cats and dogs who are just as welcoming as the resort staff, then you'll find many lively and gentle creatures to warm your heart. My favorite was a beefy beautiful orange and white cat who clearly acted like he owned the place. And if I had a single recommendation, it would be to NOT change the portion sizes, because I'm greedy and...
Read moreDecent enough hotel, clearly it used to be a premium resort, albeit now dated and rooms are looking a bit tired. Peaceful enough mostly with plenty of beach and poolside seating. Breakfast is acceptable but often consists of 3-4 hot plate dishes that few people I think would choose for breakfast (e.g. Spaghetti Bolognese). There are normally two soup / porridge type options along with a very limited fruit selection (watermelon and pineapple). There is bread for DIY toast and Yogurt. Coffee is ok.
Pleasant enough for a stay of 4-5 days IMO but we were not sad to leave.
Positive Points Close to jetty Peace and quiet Close to beach (excellent beach too) Wide selection of rooms Reasonable lunch / dinner restaurant menu but quality is not consistent. Most staff pleasant and welcoming Good coffee machine in room Choice of 5-6 restaurants / bars within walking distance of the hotel but mostly all with the same menu choices and so so food. TV In room but abysmal choice of channels (even Thai only had one).
Negative Points Miserable reception staff (seem to view customers as an interference rather than people to welcome and provide a service to) Room air con in our case was either too warm or freezing cold and seemed to bear no resemblance to remote setting (24° felt more like 19°; 25 felt like 30°) Rooms dated and tired No safe for valuables in room. Extremely hard mattress and pillows No shower screen so the bathroom floor gets soaking wet every time you shower Seemingly little use made of bathroom cleaning products, started to smell after a few days. Noisy fridge (can wake you up cutting in and out until you get used to it). Poor WiFi reception in most places Sound of yapping dogs at night sometimes which will...
Read moreThe rooms were clean but for the price they were neglected and run down. Sinks were blocked constantly & would not drain so this attracted bugs and ants unnecessarily. Breakfast was satisfactory with little choice. The most disappointing part was the service and poor communication. Some of the staff were nice but a large majority seemed reluctant to help when asked a question. We left the hotel 2 hours before our boat was due to leave and was told to wait for a songtaew. After waiting for 1 hour it came but the Russian/Thai man managing the taxiing only let 8 people get on and there were just 2 of us left. We were then just told to wait for the next one when we clearly could have got the same songthaew (there was plenty of room). As we were now going to be late the hotel did nothing to help nor did they explain why we couldnt get the same sogthaew. We were clearly being ripped off but if the man had told us he would only take 8 people then we could have made other arrangements a lot earlier. This was obviously an agreement with the taxi drivers on how to make more money etc. The man just kept saying it was busy but there were empty taxis everywhere. We ended up having to pay 250 baht instead of 50 because no one else would pick us up. I am a regular to Samet but normally stay Tub Tim/Samed Villa side. The man was trying to treat us like naive tourists but we knew what was going on. We were optimistic and happy when we first arrived but on account of the service and attitude we definitely will not be returning...
