This was our second time we stayed here when being in Koh Tao. This place is located northern side of sairee beach, so it is more peaceful than other resorts and still close to all shops and services. ||||+ Stuff is just great! My thanks to the Cheff, Businessman and Sandie. You made my holiday unforgettable!||+ Beach. Fine sand and there are also some trees, so you can be covered from the sun if you like. ||+ Beach boy. Mr.Businessman will help you with everything. He gives you towels, book trips, handles loundry service and even fix your sunbed if theres something to fix. ||+Water is clear, not much traffic, just some longtail boats anchored near. Water is also very shallow so it is good for children.||+ Great food @ Happy Snapper Restaurant&Bar (I recommend you to take Cooking Class)||+ Location, everything is just a few minute walk away so you can have very peacefully holiday in Coral Grand Resort||+ Snorkling trips. You can book snorkling trip from reception or a businessman (man who handles towels and laundry at the beach). Trips are made with small groups, so the guide (Mr. Sandie) can guide you to the best places. Every trip goes with same pattern, first you go to the Ko Nang Yuan island and be there 1h30min. After that you return to your boat and go to 4 differend snorkling spots. Every spot has some own special marine life.||+ Prices are reasonable, althought we were in island, where prices usually are high.||+ Island is small so theres no mass tourism (Phanga and Samui are next to Tao so that effects as well)||+ Theres a taxi boat service on the beach and they offer taxi, fishing trips and tours around the island with reasonable price||||- All bungalows are not in best shape and some times there are BIG lizzards(+20cm) inside, that keeps you awake in night. ||- Walkpaths are just path's of sand. ||- On this time there was big group of swedish people who didn't understand that there were others in that resort also. They keep listening their annoying music very loud from boombox on the beach and pool. They act like they owned whole place and didn't care other peoples at all. It was so annoying that we considered to change resort because of them. For the future, Resort could mention that they are peaceful place to spend holiday.||- Bathtowels have seen their best days already? Towels we get there were full of traces. ||- What cleaners do when 2-3 of them walk in bungalow? Well they made your bed and bring some water but they don't really clean the floor. I leave some trash on purpose on the floor and after 3 cleaning lady's left the bungalow, trash still remains on floor... ||||There was +&- listed on my point of view. Our holiday was very successful and i would very much recommend this island and resort for staying. Even if you are not going to dive course or snorkling.||||Like some peope have commented earlier that bungalows were full of bugs, i can tell that i didn't see anything. Of course, if you leave food or drink unpacked or outside of the frige, there will be bugs, it's a bungalow resort in tropical island, not a god dammet marriot spa hotel in Barcelona. With common sense and some basic hygiene you don't have any problems with local fauna. We have been traveling already 10 years all around Thailand and this island and resort is one of the best we...
Read moreProbably many years ago, this is a nice resort. Now the business probably just relying on Novice Diver Guests as this hotel is co-run with a Diving School, Coral Grand Divers Resort. Also, probably the only Chinese speaking Coach available on the Island.
In June, we were first time on Koh Tao and we decided to relax and enjoy 3 days at Jamahkiri Resort which is perfect for Hideout Snorkelling with absolute privacy and luxury. Then we want to try Sairee Beach for the commercial environment. We were quite disappointed and we only spent two days and went to Hin Wong Bay for snorkelling.
For the price of this hotel, we certainly not expecting for a comfortable transport like Jamahkiri. However, riding on the pick up is a not we expected. We booked the Sailor Cottage, a nice name, but horrible experience. The Cottage is just the size of the Queen size bed. Also the room 105 designated was located right adjacent to the Divers Training Pool. Not only lack of privacy as well disturbing. After negotiation, we were relocated to another type of room, from 105 to 205. It is much much better, far away from the Disturbing Divers. Functional room interior is more roomy than 105. Basically acceptable but certainly furniture are sloppy.
The hotel is total far from expected from the pictures from the property or the guests. The Sairee beach also is nothing compare to Koh Lipe or Koh Lanta. The bay is totally not suitable for swimming as well as snorkelling since the shallow basin with strong on shore wind and waves made it impossible.
Breakfast is quite primitive but the restaurant itself is a merit, the only merit of this hotel. The Thai food is real good comparable and better than most Bangkok Thai restaurants. Just so happened met the Hotel Manager and offer us to try Raw Shrimp in Fish Sauce and was good. Price also reasonable.
At Happy hour, they offer 60baht a beer and you can order as many as you like before 7pm but drink it later. Remarkable professional gesture not existing anymore elsewhere.
Overall our experience is good here but we will definitely not coming back as we found more alternatives on the Island providing...
Read moreMe and my girlfriend stayed at the Grand Coral Resort and it did not for fill our expectations. We stayed in a bungalow. The bed was big but a bit hard. The room itself was quite nice, lots of space and the bathroom was okay as well. Personally, I hate when there is animals in my room, and unfortunately there was lots of them. The amount of mosquitoes is what you expect, when you are on a tropical island. But the geckos are everywhere, both outside of your bungalow (which is totally fine), and inside of your bungalow. Literally the first thing that happened when we arrived, was that my girlfriend got one of them in her face, when she tried to open the curtains in the bungalow. The day after, there was one on the toilet while I was out there. I asked the reception about if it was possible for them to remove it outside. They just laughed and said it was not possible. They laughed even harder when I was talking about a small one (about 5 cm). They thought I talked about the big ones (about 20 cm). We saw the big ones outside of our bungalow as well. The receptionist told us that there lives one big gecko in each bungalow, and can come inside if it wants to. The receptionist also told us, that we live on a tropical island and we can not do anything about and just have to deal with it. Just think it is ironic they talk about, that the animals are free here, the animals where here first and we just have to deal with it, meanwhile there is a bird in a cage when you arrive to the hotel. On our last day, there was also another gecko in our room while we slept. The breakfast is fine, but if your are lactose-intolerant you have to buy your own milk, because they only serve normal cows milk. Plus the fruit taste of nothing, which is a shame because you can find the most tasty fruits just 5 mins from the hotel. ||||So overall, if you do not like geckos in your room, then this is not the place for you. If you do not care about it, then I think you can have a...
