A Devastating Nightmare at Sinai Hotel in Phuket: Shattering My Heart and Faith in Thailand
The fateful evening of June 5th will forever be etched in my memory as a harrowing chapter of despair and humiliation. What was supposed to be the grand finale of our idyllic Thai adventure in Phuket turned into a living nightmare, This single, traumatic experience has not only shattered my perception of a once - beloved destination but also left me emotionally broken and utterly disillusioned.
As the relentless rain poured down on that fateful evening, we, a group of four exhausted travelers, arrived at Sinai Hotel. My parents had booked their stay here, while my aunt and I had opted for another accommodation. Eager to check on my parents after a long day of travel and share a moment of comfort, I never anticipated the nightmarish ordeal that awaited me at the hands of the hotel's callous staff.
The moment I approached the front desk, I was met with a wall of hostility. The receptionists, especially a particularly belligerent and uncompassionate woman, stared at me with cold, judgmental eyes. Without any regard for my concerns or explanations, she launched into a series of aggressive interrogations, demanding that I hand over my passport as collateral if I wanted to visit my parents' room. The mere thought of entrusting my most valuable identification to strangers, with the risk of it being misused for illegal activities, filled me with overwhelming fear and anxiety.
We had spent weeks exploring the enchanting cities of Bangkok and Chiang Mai, staying at over a dozen hotels, each one welcoming us with open arms and warm hospitality. We had freely visited each other's accommodations without a single issue, cherishing the freedom and trust that these experiences had offered. But at Sinai Hotel, all sense of humanity and customer service seemed to have vanished.
For hours on end, we pleaded, reasoned, and begged with the heartless staff, but to no avail. Hungry and exhausted, having not eaten since the early morning, the lack of even a simple welcome gesture, like a traditional Thai flower garland, added insult to injury, making us feel like unwanted intruders in a place that was supposed to offer comfort and relaxation.
When my parents were finally settled in their room, the hotel staff, under the guise of delivering ice, knocked on their door late at night, around ten or eleven o'clock. It was clear that their real intention was to snoop and count the number of people in the room. The humiliation we endured was indescribable, and the feeling of helplessness washed over us like a tidal wave.
Despite my parents' assurance that the room itself was decent, the damage had already been done. The constant conflicts, the demeaning treatment, and the complete lack of empathy from the hotel staff left us all in a state of emotional distress. By nine o'clock that night, my aunt and I, defeated and in tears, had no choice but to abandon our hopes of a peaceful reunion and make our way to another hotel in the pouring rain, our spirits crushed and our hearts heavy with disappointment.
This traumatic experience at Sinai Hotel has not only left me deeply scarred but has also completely shattered my once - glowing impression of Thailand. I had always held this beautiful country in the highest regard, cherishing its rich culture, friendly people, and warm hospitality. But now, all I can think of is the cold, cruel treatment we received at the hands of this hotel, a stark contrast to the kindness and generosity that I had come to associate with Thailand.
I feel lost, heartbroken, and completely alone, questioning whether I will ever be able to trust the hospitality industry in this country again. This was, without a doubt, the worst hotel experience of my life, and I sincerely hope that no one else has to go through the same pain and suffering that we endured at Sinai Hotel in Phuket. Don’t book this hotel, the service is terrible and they have zero sympathy and...

We came to Sinae on our honeymoon, while we majorly had a good time, we may not come back here again. The location is far off the main island as expected and takes well over 30-45 mins to reach places during peak hours. It is also not as easy to get a bolt or grab sometimes due to the location.
We were greeted well by the check in staffs and generally have a positive opinion of the staff. The buggy drivers, Sek, beer, bas and one more guy were all very helpful, cheerful and extremely friendly. The security staffs at the ground were very polite and friendly, gave good recommendations of the town as well.
The restaurant staffs were extremely warm and welcoming and every morning breakfast was a delight. They put on a great smile and treated us well. Very attentive and also very very polite. Might come just for the breakfast team.
The spa felt luxurious, for the price we paid it should feel that. Staff were nice and accommodating.
The hilltop Starbucks, IMO, very hyped out. Not much drink options, quite standard. Can skip. Or just come for the view and a picture if you stay in the property. Otherwise feels like a waste.
Room service staff were nice and kind. The room cleaning staff were decent, nothing commendable. Not very clean though, toilets were not cleaned properly every day. Bed was made decent. Water bottles were given decent. Mini bar not changed everyday even though it was complimentary. Not all amenities were topped up. The pool got progress dirty and no one cleaned it. There were so many dead insects by the end of the trip. The tub was leaky as well.
When we Checked in, we had told them it was a honeymoon and they had prepped an Octopus toy pillow and a hat. We were under the impression that it was meant for us as it was part of the deco. When we were checking out, we had kept the toy pillow in a bag, and our buggy driver even asked us to name it. As we were leaving, the room cleaning staff rudely called out to the buggy driver to check if we paid for it. This is where our nightmare starts. We then told them oh we thought it was free so we returned it anyway.
As we were waiting at the checkout, they told us that the hat was missing. We told them it was kept in the cupboard as we did not use it. They insisted that it was not there. To avoid any conflicts and since we had to get to the airport, I said I’ll just pay for it. To be honest, the price of the hat wasn’t much, a meal or a drink at their restaurant costs triple. However it was the attitude of the check out staffs that was accusatory and unfriendly that caught us off guard. To anyone deciding to visit Sinae, you should. Be careful of the item they provide though as everything might...
Read moreWe been in the Hotel for 3 nights. We have had the Pool Villa. The Hotel is quite new, furniture and equipment is in a very good manner. The room with the pool is nice and both are quite big. Pros: -Nice rooms and nice villa pool -great view -very good breakfast -friendly staff -clean inside and outside
Cons: -remote area, everything is far. -dinner poor quality, small dishes, expensive compare to other spots. Not adequate for 5* Hotel, resulting in frustrated evening -no sunbed at the rooms balcony beside the pool -pool water quite cold. Staying inside for 10 minutes is already long -no sun beds at the public pool. Just kind of 6 sunchairs or lounger. -no service at the pool (not 5*) -Starbucks at the Hill view sounds great, but at the end it is a Starbucks not more or less but expensive. If this is considered as the “highlight” of a hotel, it’s very poor for the Hotel and guests -SPA too expensive, also for 5. Compare to the Intercontinental 5 in Kamala, more then double price. Why so heavy expensive as we never saw people being inside. -gardener starting to clean around the rooms before 0800am, very noisy each morning.
I would not recommend. We where aware of the remote location but it is not enjoyable to be there a day as it becomes boring. No sun beds, pools not nice in practice, no beach nearby. The quality in this regard is too low. Spending a day on the Starbucks terrace is nothing great in my opinion. The Staff is friendly but also not what you expect in a luxury hotel. Not pro active, not visible, not welcoming. When you arrive they are sitting behind the desk, no welcome drink etc. When you ask for a beach to go they can recommend only Patong (party beach, very noisy and 1h away by Taxi), but nothing else. Knowledge in this regards seems low and not suitable. The Hotel is alive due to the instagram tours for visitors but not stying in the Hotel but having a tour to the Hotel’s Starbucks at the Hill. The photos of the Hotel are great, but they are not providing the full package other similar Hotels of this class are providing. That’s sad. It is more a poor 4* Hotel when it comes to service...
