This is a gated guest house with restaurant that is very near Mulago Hospital and the Makerere University School of Public Health. The rooms are spacious with all the basic necessities, including a fan and a desk for working. Wifi was intermittent (usually worked on my phone, but not my laptop) and couldn't get reception on the TV. Linens (sheets and towel) smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. Mosquito nets are provided for the beds. You can hear plenty of sounds during the day but it gets quiet at night. Breakfast (buffet style with cooked-to-order eggs) is provided and half or full board can be purchased for other meals (would be much easier than pay-as-you-go option in my opinion). Other guests recommended a 5-minute Uber ride to the shopping mall, where more food options are available. Young lady at front desk was very helpful, but a couple times (including check out) no one was at the reception. Also, despite quoting price in USD, they much prefer credit cards and shillings. No ATMs within a short walk, so I suggest getting cash at the airport if you remember. At the restaurant the older lady gave me a hard time about paying in USD and kept saying "it's not enough" even though the conversion worked out fine by my calculation. Would be nice if they offered a tab on the room and let you pay once at checkout. Overall good location and reasonable stay with just a...
Read moreI was recommended Mulago Hospital Guest House because it was close to the hospital I was volunteering in. The room I had was $35 per night (apparently the cheapest). This was very over-priced (the bathroom light didn't work, there was often no hot water or water at all for showers, and the wifi would often not work for several days at a time). They have a restaurant on site but around 50% of the menu was not available, and the food took a long time to arrive. The breakfast was nice in fairness, and is included in the $35 price. It also felt very secure, with armed guards at the gate 24/7. Room cleaning daily was also included, but laundry was extra and quite expensive (you have to pay per item of clothing). I had no kitchen facilities so had to pay for meals other than breakfast. I did have a mini fridge in my...
Read moreI booked ahead and arrived late at night (after a flight into Entebbe). No one was there to let me in. When we finally got someone, they said that the place was completely booked. I ended up in one of their "budget" rooms, but at least I was able to stay because it would be hard to find a place at 1 am. The budget room smelled strongly of rotten fruit, and they did not provide soap for handwashing in the shared bathroom. The worst was one night their neighbor decided to blast music from 3 pm to 8 am the next morning. My ears hurt and I couldn't sleep. ||||Also, it says that this place is $54. It's not. The rooms are $20 to 40. Even though it is close to the hospital and Makerere, there are...
