Room was very small, smallest travelodge I have ever stayed in. The tv was around a corner so had a blocked view from bed making it pretty pointless.
Overall cleanliness was very poor, especially the bathroom. There was a large build up of muck and grime, particularly in the corner near the tub padded with a thick layer of dust. The kind of muck that appears after months/years of neglect and laziness not just from the previous guests. The bathroom floor was so grotty and discoloured it was practically impossible to make-out what colour it was supposed to be in the first place.
Showerhead was barely move-able, and fixed high up on the wall (shower gymnastics anyone?). Think hospital shower but worse and you're almost there.
Overall, the hotel (barring the reception which gave a deceiving first impression) was incredibly tired, run-down and stuck far in the past. I'm sure it was probably a nice hotel 50 or so years ago.
Lifts were very crampt and slow meaning constant queues as they could only fit 4 people providing none of you were on the larger side or carrying luggage. I was on the third floor, so opting for the stairs wasn't a deal-breaker, however I would seriously fear getting trapped in one of those if I was confined to the 8th floor of the hotel!
Location was convinient for this side of the city centre of course, however it was incredibily loud as the only window opens directly onto the wetherspoons beer garden. Speaking of windows, the room was stuffy and hot as the window would only open about an inch with no other ventilation. The travelodge is also directly next door to/on top of a 'Dixys Chicken' with all the associated smells and unpleasantries included. Convinient if you fancy a late night snack. Excessive number of homeless floating around outside the doors at all hours.
Service was acceptable, but clear the man on reception was very fed up that day and it was...
Read more(They asked us to leave a review and I said I would, I don't often do this so apologies if it's a little all over the place, oh and it's super long sorry I think I covered literally everything though!) We stayed for one night in order to attend the Alice Cooper gig at the arena. We stayed in room 215. This hotel is typical travelodge characteristics; it does the job you want it to for the price you're paying so you get the functionality you desire, just without the luxury of a Hilton for example. It could use a refurbishment. Although there were a few cool 'check-in' gadgets in the lobby, the lifts and general decor are suffering somewhat. We moved our bed to see the TV better and get more heat from the radiator and the difference in the carpet underneath was very noticeable. There was some sort of yellow goo on the wall to the left of the mirror on the TV side of the room, probably hair gel or something similar from the previous customer. I accidentally put my hand in it, bit gross. All the staff we happened to speak to in their various job roles were consistently very friendly and professionally on point. We were welcomed nicely on arrival and were made to feel very good about having chosen this hotel to stay in. They did the company proud by providing customer service that you'd expect from a 5-star hotel. There's a Sainsbury's directly opposite that's open until 11pm and the arena is about a 5-10 minute walk. Loads of pubs, clubs and restaurants to the left and right. About 5 mins to main shopping area with the bullring etc. Wouldn't know about parking, took about 20/30mins to walk there from new street train station. Expect noise, it's Broad Street Birmingham. Nothing they can really do about that. We look forward to staying again if the opportunity arises! Jasmin Sheridan and Haydn...
Read moreNever before have I felt the need to leave a review, let alone a negative one. Walked into the building optimistic, great location for a night out. After checking in I got into the lift, it felt so unsafe I took the stairs with my bad knees. It was slow and shaking. Needs some maintenance repairs. The corridors stunk like an old soggy dog and bins. It was sickening. The carpet throughout the entire hotel had questionable stains. Each time I took a step there was visible dust flying up at me. My room had the lingering smell of the corridors, mixed with a strong cleaning product. Not a fresh scented cleaning product, the type of cleaning product you’d use on the bottom of a lorry. I went down to reception to politely request a room swap due to the unbearable smell, however was told they’re fully booked (they were not). Staying positive, I went back to my room to get ready for my night out. The room had mould by the windows, stains all over the bathroom, a blocked sink, and a huge clear space creating an eerie feeling. I went for a shower, the shower head is pointed towards the wall, and had such low pressure it didn’t even reach me. The only options for the shower temperature is freezing cold, or scorching hot. No in-between. It felt as though kettle water was seeping through my scalp. I had to cut my shower short. After getting ready (with a lack of plug sockets) I went down to let my friend into the building. The security told me this was not allowed, even though I had booked a family room. They then followed me and my friend around the building. I would not recommend staying here at all. Stay elsewhere and spend on an uber to get into town. It’s simply not worth anyone’s hard...
