🍳 The Figure of Eight – JD Wetherspoons, Broad Street, Birmingham 🍻 Where breakfast meets bargain and the pints flow freer than the traffic outside. Dropped into the Figure of Eight on a brisk Birmingham morning—Broad Street still yawning from the night before—for a no-fuss traditional breakfast. Verdict? Somewhere between average and actually-not-bad-at-all. But here’s the thing: for the price, it was more than adequate—it’s Wetherspoons, not The Ritz. You know the drill: sausage, egg, beans, toast, and hash browns that could stop a hangover in its tracks. The coffee? Bottomless. Refill ’til your soul stops screaming. It’s a JD institution, like sticky menus and gents debating politics at 10am. Now, let’s talk booze. Cheapest in the land. You could build a pyramid of pints for the price of a single cocktail elsewhere. And there’s something comforting about that classic Spoons setup—wooden booths, sticky floors, and a drinks menu as thick as a Dickens novel. In summary: Not a culinary pilgrimage, but for a breakfast with caffeine on tap and change left over for a cheeky morning lager, the Figure of Eight does exactly what it says on the tin. And then some. Rating: 7/10 – mostly for the price, the bottomless brew, and the familiar Spoons charm.

As with most Wetherspoons, there are good drinks at good prices. This one was quite busy as it was Friday night on Broad Street. I ordered at the bar first, and the staff were great, very friendly and polite. More importantly, they know how to pour a decent pint, unlike the last pub I'd been to this week. I then downloaded the app to try for the first time. I was impressed with how quick my drink came to the table, but something was a little off with it. There was a cherry flavour in there, I'm thinking it was because they accidentally used cherry pepsi max instead of the standard pepsi max I'd ordered. I'm hoping it wasn't some kind of cherry liqueur instead of JD. Drank it anyway and moved on. The place looks so different to when I used to pop in 15-20 years ago.

I went twice and had very different experiences. The first time everything went smoothly; my pizza was pretty good and service was faultless. The second time, the waitress brought me a plate of cold chips and onion rings with a lukewarm burger in a stale bun. I was sitting in the garden area outside, but instead of bringing condiments with my food and cutlery, she told me to go inside to get them. Having tried the food I went inside to complain, and the nice barmaid immediately sorted out the problem, and brought me a new meal herself. It was hot and fresh this time, but still not a good burger. Definitely a place to go if budget is a concern (pints for under £2.50; most meals under £8), but it's much better for drinks than for food.

-10000 I think I am still in shock disbelief and keep reliving it from last night being chucked out lol By simply asking for where our drinks were after 50 mins We traveled from 2 hours to a concert with my children 19 met friends taxi driver due to parking I sat on table on my own not to embarrass them as the mum lol My daughter ordered from their table through app my son bringing my food to my table the food took a long time 5pm we ordered we had no drinks at all feeling mow Ill. asked a young lady waitress politely She said I will go and find out I thanked her nothing happened I then asked a tall man in a blue shirt He was quite abrupt nothing again. He said we told you three was a wait on drinks bizarre what 59 mins I then asked another short male he was the duty mgr I saw his badge He was rude and very aggressive I explained then feeling very upset in his rude manner we had waited long time for the meals with no drinks and all the group was about to leave to go to the concert He walked off he then returned He was displaying very aggressive body language I am disabled and I have physical disability and mental health ptsd I carry a access card for that reason He asked what did they order I said I don’t know I repeated this twice he then proceeded ny telling me to He said you’re being agressive! I was so so shocked thought he was joking I said the only one being aggressive is you I then said sorry not Sure me telling you I didn’t order they did on the table I also explained i was not the only one that i. was disabled I need the drink I an in pain I feel ill He said ‘ just because your disabled that doesn’t give you the right to be agressive I said I an not I truly thought he was messing around he was not he got his thug security to ask me to leave in disbelief I left My children texting me where are you I was shaking I felt I was going to pass out as needed my drink . I asked to speak to the mgr he seemed ok he said he had to down load the camera he didn’t apologise so I think this is a regular thing this shocking chuckling 56 year old disabled vulnerable lady mother and carer out for Just asking where there drinks were bizarre !!! This is a unsafe environment and one must get fully investigated this is a very scary place hs dangerous He didn’t Appolgise even when I told him he has a mgr that truly is a danger making stuff up about customers in fact he is the aggressive person

The tables weren’t cleaned or cleared up after any previous customers left, in our condition until more than 10 min after we sat (some staffs passed by our table, saw our table was dirty but did nothing to clean or clear it up). Ordered through app, foods came first but the steak was burnt but the burger was good, drinks didn’t come for a while (around 20 min waiting) until we asked the staff who brought the foods to our table and he told us “it will come, the bar is so busy right now serving other customers” where it was NOT busy at all (in fact, no customer was standing in front of the till to order) and the bar staffs just stood up doing nothing behind the bar (not even cleaning the bar or pouring & preparing our drinks or any drinks). Had to ask another staff (with team leader tag) about our drinks, she went to the bar & prepared the drinks directly by herself, brought the drinks to our table and apologised (and we’re happy with her manner & politeness). Unfortunately, the draught beers tasted bad and not how it’s supposed to be, tasted like the staffs don’t do line cleaning for a long time or at least regularly. We were fine finishing our drinks & talks until one of the staffs came to our table and RUDELY saying “we’re doing closing, finish your drink quickly and leave” and that’s it, just like that he left our table with unfriendly-face, where it was still 30 min before 00:00 (as we know this Spoons close at 12 for customers). My boyf was so confused with the staff attitude as he came to our table and talked to us so rude like that, no hi no sorry no please or whatsoever to begin his sentence to talk to us as customers, and obviously I was really annoyed & upset with that guy staff attitude, no manner at all for someone who’s supposed to provide a good customers service, being polite is the least anyone can do. Really, no need to kick your customers out rudely, it’s not that hard to be polite and to be nice to customers or to anyone that you talk to. Providing / selling cheap F&Bs doesn’t mean you can treat customers badly. Real disappointment, eventho I’m pretty sure Wetherspoon company group itself provides training for...

I’ve been to this Wetherspoons a few times and had an absolutely great night. Unfortunately that was all undone in the space of 30 seconds. I was with a few of my friends waiting for our drinks when we were informed that our ordered drink was unavailable. My friend re-ordered a drink that was available. I turned to the service man to order the same but he was already walking off. Assuming he thought that me and my friend would get the same and so ordered the drinks as such. The next thing that happened is the same service man was telling us to leave because apparently I had waved my middle finger at him when he walked off. This was completely incorrect as I would never do this to a person doing their job fixing an inconvenience that was not their fault. He gave us no chance to explain ourselves despite the rest of our group protesting my innocence. We were removed from the building, with everyone more confused than angry about why we were actually being removed. I’m disappointed I didn’t get the service man’s name as I would love to credit this act of insanity to a person. Luckily the security man on the door was a man of greater awareness and directed our group to an alternative establishment. Thoroughly disappointed and we will not be returning and will warn everyone else who said they are going to this pub. I’m sure one man is not representative of the collective but never the less, he has soured our opinions of the establishment in question. Shame. I had previously enjoyed some great...
