i’m not the person to typically complain, however my experience at this establishment was close to shocking. we were warmly greeted by the lovely bouncer, the star that man is and also our host.. upon arrival, we waited a standard time for our drink order to be taken it seemed as though the staff were completely unaware and quite frankly oblivious as to whether our order had been taken for food and drinks or not. we promptly ordered our beverages. these were simply 4 soft drinks from the tap. We did not receive these for over HALF AN HOUR!! we watched painfully as our ice melted in our drinks in the scorching heatwave we are all currently facing. finally our drinks were rudely slammed upon our table. we hastily drunk our drinks to soothe our parched throats and we were left a further 20 minutes until we could order our food. upon the foods arrival, our server had changed. we received half of our order, leaving 2 of us drooling from the mouth. once we had received the other half of our order, 10 minutes later, we had to call a server over to receive cutlery, i had a dried rice embedded within the prongs of my utensil. our original server then complained openly about how the other waitress could’ve done this while handing us our food originally. while i’m in complete agreement, i found this highly unprofessional. the food was mediocre, the chilli squid and sweet potato fries were exceptional to be fair. the mac and cheese however was rather bland and was described among the table as being just mildly cheese flavored sauce (similar to a pasta and sauce typically brought from your local tesco) to end the evening, we were scoffed at as we politely asked to remove the service charge, as would be expected with the dire level of service we had received, and we paid our bill and quickly made our exit. we are all quite frankly appalled by the service, we understand if it was a busy night, this may have effected service, however it was a quiet night and staff were talking to customers for a lengthy period of time and then bickering amongst themselves. i do hope service can be approved as this was not the standard of service i would expect to receive if we were to return again, which we may now never do....

For a table of 10, our drinks were being served quickly, and the atmosphere was great. We spoke with another manager, Adrian, to place our food order since someone in our group had an allergy. He assured us he would take care of it.

However, as time passed, we noticed tables that arrived after us were getting their food. When we asked a server about our order, she never followed up. After waiting for an hour, our meals finally arrived, but the burgers were dry, and the lamb rump was overcooked. We were so hungry by then that we just ate and asked for the bill.

When we mentioned the long wait for food, Adrian became defensive, insisting it had only been 29 minutes (when it clearly wasn’t) and that it was normal for a large group to wait up to 40 minutes. He dismissed our concerns and accused us of being “petty” and just wanting free items, which was far from the truth. At that point, my friend’s birthday had been ruined, and she just wanted to leave.

I asked to speak with the other manager, but Adrian brushed him off as “just an assistant manager.” Thankfully, Donte stepped in, helped us settle the bill quickly, and we were finally able to leave. Turtle Bay Birmingham offers a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere that’s perfect for a relaxed dining experience. I had the pleasure of trying the curry goat, mac and cheese, and taking advantage of their 2-for-1 cocktails, and overall, it was a delightful experience.

The curry goat was packed with flavor—tender and aromatic, with just the right amount of spice to keep things interesting. It paired beautifully with the mac and cheese, which was creamy, rich, and indulgent. The combination of the two dishes made for a satisfying meal that I couldn’t get enough of.

The 2-for-1 cocktail deal was definitely a highlight. The drinks were refreshing, well-made, and the perfect way to complement the meal.

What made the experience even better was the excellent service provided by Rico, our waiter. He was friendly, attentive, and made sure our dining experience was smooth from start to finish. His recommendations were spot on, and he ensured that we had everything we needed, making the evening even more enjoyable.
