I was looking forward to trying the salmon ‘poke bowl’ being a fan of them generally, and I am genuinely perplexed why I was made to feel stupid for asking for some wasabi and soy sauce from a restaurant that was charging £14 for it?! The poke bowl was average but edible, and I was hungry. Whilst paying, the waitress asked me how the food was. I just told her with one word the food was “disappointing”, she replied “disappointing?!” in a seemingly surprised tone and handed me the payment machine without elaborating any further. She had no interest in asking me why. I said “unfortunately there was no wasabi or chopsticks”, silence and no eye contact form her. I was quite taken aback at her attitude and didn’t know what else to say. I said “Thanks” when leaving, again nothing at all. I don’t usually leave reviews but the attitude was so, so rude I felt I had to. I am unsure whether she has been poorly trained in customer service (if at all)! Before I actually even sat down, I was told sharply “No, I have stopped people sitting outside” by a male colleague. Fair enough, there was a protest but I wasn’t offered a seat inside or even asked if I wanted any food or drink! I was shut down straight away and offered a sofa seat, to eat on and handed a menu, again silently! I must say, the other male guy who served me was very pleasant and had good, usual customer service. Never, ever coming here again and have pre-warned other victims!
EDIT - thanks for your reply, it’s quite telling and I am glad it is public for future potential visitors to view. You will find absolutely everything I have mentioned proven on CCTV. Replying a few weeks later with flat out lies is appalling. I did not ask for a takeaway at all? Where has the at come from? Please check your CCTV. Advertising poke bowls, but, they’re not really poke bowls? Got it! Does same apply for every other thing on the menu? It’s just a surprise at what you get or what we can bother rustling up? And you’re made to feel stupid if you challenge it? Also, again, please check your CCTV, it will show staff pointing to the sofa for me to sit, I don’t just randomly walk around restaurants and plonk myself down anywhere. I have photos of that actually. And, to clarify, it wasn’t the fact there was a protest (I was at it!) it was the attitude it was related to me and the fact your staff were out speaking to people sitting at tables Finally, how dare I ask (not demand) for chopsticks in a restaurant advertising a poke bowl! Terrible hey? A quick Google showed me previous customers have actually went to the newspapers about your establishment. I encourage everyone to look at those! It is also telling that I have never wrote a bad review about anyone...
Read moreMy wife, mother-in-law, newborn daughter and I went here for breakfast a couple of months back. The facility is quite big and spacious with lots of natural lighting. I kind of got hotel vibes. The service was very good throughout. They were prompt, accommodating and quite friendly. The menu is pretty standard but with a few unique options. The laddies went with a couple of full Scottish breakfasts and I went for the croque monsieur French toast. The breakfasts went down well, although my mother-in-law didn’t enjoy the drier homemade beans. I thought they were not bad. She prefers the old Heinz. Everything else was cooked well and hit the spot, particularly the tattie scones which much thinner and crispier than your standard. The star of the show was the croque monsieur French toast which is Custard Soaked Brioche Stuffed with Honey Roast Ham & Bechamel Sauce, Chilli Jam, Orkney Cheddar (yes I copied that from the website). It was bloody fantastic. Even thinking about it now makes me immediately want to go back to put my chops around it. It was incredibly delicious and juicy. The savoury from the cheese mixed with the sweet custard and jam and then the slight chilli kick! Oh baby! I negatives I have with it are that it was only 2 pieces which simply isn’t enough for something so tasty. I thought of ordering another but not at £13!! A bit steep in my opinion. We also ordered a latte, apple juice and a melon smoothie which were also pretty good. Overall a pleasant breakfast for my wife’s birthday and we will...
Read moreThis is not good value for your money. I wanted a Full Breakfast but upon enquiring with the staff, this does not come with toast (so not really a "full" breakfast then). If you wish to add toast it would cost an extra £2.50 on top of the already extortionate £15 asking price. Instead I decided to opt for one of the "Toast" dishes, ordering an Avocado Smash for £14. When it arrived, I really did wonder where the other half of my meal was. Despite ordering from the Toast menu, there was only one small piece of toast buried under the avocado and eggs (about half the size of a regular slice of bread). Once I had finished the one small piece of toast, I was left with half of the "toppings" and a poached egg left to eat without any toast. If I wanted any extra I'd have had to pay £2.50 for it.
I am really unimpressed that I had to pay so much money for such little sustenance. The food did taste good, but I was left still hungry which is never what you hope for when dining out. In addition to this, the seating felt very "school canteen", I definitely did not feel as though it was the comfortable dining experience you would expect from the high menu prices they charge.
Yes this is Edinburgh, and you'll not really find a breakfast or brunch for much less elsewhere, but at least elsewhere you will get enough food to fill you up for your hard...
