An elderly gent arrived and promptly asked us to pay before seeing the room. We paid and followed him up a winding staircase to the top floor. The foyer was grubby with hand marks over all three facing foyer doors and the carpet in the foyer was full of bits of fluff and debris.
On arriving in the room it was nothing like the pictures displayed on their website. There was the double and a single bed, both made in an old fashioned way, with the sheets folded over the the covers. The double bed had loads of lumps. My husband had had a cold and was slightly wheezy but prop. Said he would check for ground floor room for us. There was none available. Do we put our cases on the floor and looked round. It was very very basic, and not very clean. There was something on the floor either a pice of sweet corn or a lemon pip. There were black marks all over the space between the beds. There was only inches from the bed to the pokey little shower. We had arrived by taxi. We had two heavy cases and nowhere else to stay. So we went back into the city centre by bus to find somewhere else. We eventually did , and returned by taxi to get our cases and asked the owner for our money back, she implied that it was because we were elderly and that we couldn't climb the stairs ( we had just taken our cases up!) I said it was not up Tommy cleanliness standard and since we had not even sat in the room we should have been entitled to our money back. She refused.
I would warn other guests, don't pay until you see your room.
There was a sort of second hand little table with a meagre amount of hospitality items on it . The curtains were strung with wire or what looked like wire. It was awful. My husband and I wandered the streets until we got somewhere else and we DID NOT GET A REFUND FROM EITHER BOOKING . COM OR BLOSSOM HOUSE , who tried to prevent me taking pictures , although I managed 2. But can't get...

We booked a room for 4 nights in September for May the following year and paid a deposit. They emailed us a week before we were due to arrive asking me for my CVV code on my card so that they could have my full card details. This was their way of us confirming our booking... We wouldn't give them our full card details as confirmation of our stay. Never have we been asked before to give out our full card details over email to any hotel or residence to confirm our stay before. It is unsafe to do so and no bank would recommend doing this. They then cancelled on us a week before we were due to go on our only family holiday of the year because of this and absolutely ruined our family holiday, causing us a lot of stress. Other hotels in the area say they should not have been able to do this and the only reason they did so was because it was marathon weekend in Edinburgh and they knew they could get more money out of last minute bookings from runners than guests that had booked in advance. Devastated doesn't even come close to explaining how we have...
