Review Sept 21 2025. Came here on a Scotland trip from Canada. Booked specifically for the Sunday Roast Dinner ( hoping for a traditional one lol ) Made reservations from Canada as well. Got seated and were told they had ran out of Roast......... (?!?!?!) I'm guessing the whole town rushed here for Sunday dinner and cleaned them out by afternoon. We got there on an understaffed night. Crew was running ragged. Our waitress was over the top accomodating. Cannot remember her name. Dark hair and glasses- gothic sort of. ( hope Im not offending) She talked to the cook whom was dead tired and wanting his staff break from the early dinner rush....low and behold he came out and offered customised meals for the both of us and went right back into the kitchen. Delayed his break.WOW!. His name is Finley. This guy is Scotland's best kept secret. 5 gold stars go to him along with our waitress. Finley's cooking is incredible. He even made my wife Yorkshire pudding's lmao. Super nice guy as well. Talked with us at the table in between bringing food out. Cant say enough about him. Aside from that, I was able to drink some Belhaven. Belhaven Black Scot Stout was discontinued in Ontario for months due to the aluminum content of the can. I have been in withdrawl ever since! Got my fair share at Platform 8 and also tried Belhaven Best which is NOT sold in Canada. Thank you to the staff of Platform 8 for a fantastic visit. What a great place with great staff members.

Prices are fantastic especially for a place with a clean/modern decor. Staff are nothing to write home about. Kinda more of a 'yeah, what do you want' place rather than 'welcome, what can I get for you' (came in on Friday didn't expect anything but now it's dead on a Monday) I came in and the 2 staff are sorting a very minor complaint quite loudly and slowly while there are 5 of us at the bar waiting to be served. They had been there since I walked in and assumed they were all just drinking at the bar. My whisky was first served in a half pint glass and it took a bit of asking to get a standard rocks glass or even a water glass. They were all fine but it's like just do the bare minimum you know. Not a big deal but if you've got the right glasses why would you serve it in a half pint? Food was okay, wings were pretty standard. Sauce was served on the side instead of tossed so I had to toss them myself in the bowl. It was a little dry but to be honest in a edge of being just extra crispy. Overall very okay. Cannot complain properly since the prices are so good and the place appears to be kept clean and hygienic. Perfect wee spot for waiting for transport etc

Got to say after a couple of weeks of trying to get a nearby parking space, the eagerly anticipated visit for a breakfast was achieved. Unfortunately the quality 'on this occasion' did not match. Helpfully informed up front there were items they had run out of, but would substitute and add other items instead... no problem. Sadly it seemed the majority of items had become best friends with the deep fat fryer or a frying pan :( Bacon was mega salty, black pudding hard and inedible, beans cold, mushroom fried to death it was impossible to tell what it used to be... plate swimming in grease/fat, and my pet hate.. toast with butter rations. Overall - Kitchen order to table time ☆☆☆☆, Surroundings ☆☆☆ (music a bit intrusive for this time of the morning), Staff ☆☆☆☆ (friendly, presentable, communicative - unfortunately no courtesy check-back after food delivered) I can confidently say V8 or Demon need not worry about any competition.

Myself and two friends visited Platform 8 on Wednesday. We went to the bar and ordered food but when I handed a bank of England £20 note over the barmaid would not accept it. She called a very tall blond haired man wearing a red t shirt and glasses to the till..(I assumed he was a duty manager) and he too refused to accept it. The young girl was pleasant but the guy was rude and very cheeky. He held it up to the customers and very loudly said "This is a fake note..I have worked with money all my life and never seen anything like this..it's fake" . I was absolutely humiliated and so embarrassed. He was so rude to us. I have never encountered this before from someone behind a bar. We had just flown in from Belfast through a horrific storm and just wanted a bite to eat - not to be humiliated by someone so rude. I then went to marks and spencer further down the street. I paid for a few items and whilst handing the same note over, I asked the lady to check the note for me to see if it was fake. She laughed at me and called a supervisor across. They asked what my concern was about the note and i explained what had just happened in platform 8. Needless to say the note was legitimate and they gladly accepted it. I would never again in my life set foot in platform 8. We were visitors in their country and we were treated appallingly by that particular member of staff. I would not recommend any tourist to visit there for drink or food as you may be accused of using fake money. Marks and spencers staff will accept your money...they are not "loud nor arrogant" and are far more...

Been here before for drinks but this was the first time having lunch here. Very dissapointing. Kicking myself for not taking photos. First of all I was served a glass of warm Rosé wine. yuk! i went up to the bar and asked politely if I could have a cold one and the barmaid said they don't have any rosé in the fridge. Who doesn't put the rosé in the fridge!?! So i got ice cubes instead, which made it cold, but of course watered it down and didn't taste nice. Then the food: one of us had chicken strips with bbq sauce, overcooked and really dry. Pulled pork tacos were also dry and claggy. I had a multigrain salad which looked like a pile of brown mush, the chicken thighs were dry and chewy as if fresh out the microwave. salad garnish was a quarted of a raw red onion not even finely sliced, quarteded tiny tomato and some cold soggy peppers that were half way between roasted and raw. I'm no masterchef but i could have easily done better myself. I did say to the waitress that it was sub-standard but she just shrugged and took our plates away. Should have probably gone for boring old burger and chips. Over all, really sub standard considering it's not cheap. Won't be here for food again. At least the...
