Firstly the main positive of this stay is the pure convenience of getting to the city centre from this guest house however we felt very unwelcome at our stay here. The owner of the guest house instead of welcoming us to his guest house, communicated to us the entire time through email so we never actually met him.||||One member of staff was very rude to another couple during breakfast time, and asked them to move to a smaller table even though the larger table wasn't needed to accommodate to any other guests. The selection at breakfast was very minimal with choice of eggs and bacon or a bacon sandwich as your hot food and for cold food there was muesli and yogurt. When we have stayed in guest houses before, we enjoy the luxury of full English breakfasts so it was very disappointing to see the limited selection available. ||||We found it very difficult to sleep the first night as the radiator wasn't turned on so the room was absolutely freezing (and because the owner didnt greet us on the first night, we had no idea of how to work the radiator). We communicated this issue to a staff member the next day who did however provide us with a portable heater. ||||Overall we wouldn't stay here again even though the room was modern and extremely close to the centre, due to the unwelcoming nature of the guest house. If we would've been welcomed and actually made to feel at home, we would've...
Read moreFirstly, Andrew was very good at giving lots of information regarding the city etc and the young ladies who served breakfast were lovely. The b&b was clean and the bed comfortable. However... this is advertised as a 4 star, There is no way it’s any more than a 2 star. We had the ‘superior’ attic room. I think it was superior as it had an en-suite. Even although at 5ft5 I gave up counting how many times I bumped my head in various parts of the room. Bearing in mind it wasn’t a huge room. There were fittings missing, the walk in wardrobe appears to be an overflow for things not being used throughout the guesthouse. The cupboard outside the room was held shut with an empty loo roll... poor quality finishing’s .... definitely not 4 star. It was very warm the evening we stayed. Andrew very kindly had provided a fan as being in the attic it felt even warmer. We were unable to have the window open as because it was also raining, Andrew informed us that the rain would come into the room which was fair enough. But this made for an uncomfortable night.||Advertised free parking, not sure where that was but certainly not anywhere on the street outside. We were charged £8 for that pleasure. Also advertised was the full English breakfast.... cereal with cold toast and eggs and bacon was not my idea of a 4 star breakfast. ||As I said... clean and comfortable just not what it’s...
Read moreWe stayed at Bootham House for four nights during our visit to York. The property was extremely clean and comfortable. The kitchen had everything needed including a dishwasher and washing machine. We were pleasantly surprised to have fresh scones, butter, and jam waiting for us when we arrived. The location was fantastic - just outside of the city walls near the Minster. York is a very walkable city, and we were able to walk to all of the main attractions, including the Minster, Jorvik Viking Center, and the Museum Gardens. ||If you are going to visit York, we highly recommend staying at...
