We recently booked a last-minute weekend getaway at the Boulevard Hotel, Blackpool, to enjoy the final showing of the Hot Ice show—an event we had long been wanting to attend. Our stay was on Saturday 7th, and it was meant to be a special trip, particularly as I was also planning to surprise my daughter for her birthday.
Before arriving, I emailed the hotel to arrange for a box of their luxury chocolates to be delivered to our room. A polite member of staff promptly responded, confirming that everything was organised and payment could be made at reception. This attention to detail in communication made for a smooth and reassuring start to our stay.
Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by a courteous gentleman at reception. He kindly gave us tickets for the Hot Ice show and ensured a quick and easy check-in. He also gave a helpful tip to keep our windows closed due to sand flies, which we appreciated. Thankfully, the room had air conditioning, so this was not an issue.
The room itself was lovely—spotlessly clean, stylish, and comfortable. As an extra touch, a small birthday cake with chocolate-piped writing and a personalised card was waiting in the room for my daughter. She was thrilled with the thoughtful gesture, which added to the celebratory atmosphere.
We spent some time at the hotel bar, where we enjoyed drinks in a relaxed setting. Later, we had a delightful meal at the White Tower Restaurant. The dinner was delicious, and the service matched the high quality of the food. The Hot Ice show was everything we had hoped for—an absolutely fantastic performance that truly made the weekend special.
Unfortunately, our night’s sleep wasn’t as peaceful as we had hoped. This wasn’t entirely the hotel’s fault, but inconsiderate guests in the room above severely impacted our experience. From midnight to around 3:30 a.m., there were frequent bursts of noise—what sounded like furniture being dragged around the room in intervals of 10-15 minutes. It was extremely disruptive and frustrating. I attempted to call reception several times between 1:30 and 2:15 a.m., but no one answered. Finally, I tried calling the hotel directly from my mobile phone, and to my surprise, it was answered straight away, with the night staff responding that they would “come and have a look.” While the effort was appreciated, it did little to alleviate the noise issue at the time.
The following morning, we headed down for breakfast, which was lovely. The buffet had a wide variety of options, and the quality of the food was excellent. Despite being tired from the sleepless night, we checked out quickly without mentioning the issue at the front desk. In hindsight, we probably should have, but the noise from the guests above did put a damper on our otherwise enjoyable stay.
In conclusion, the Boulevard Hotel is a beautifully designed hotel with attentive staff, excellent food, and great proximity to attractions like the Hot Ice show. However, due to the building’s structure, noise from inconsiderate guests can easily travel between rooms, which marred our experience. If you’re lucky enough to have quiet neighbours, your stay will likely...
Read moreStopped here for 4 nights in October. Staff on the reception were polite and informative. Upon arrival we asked if we could extend our stay for another night. This was changed and sorted for us The room was amazing. We had a deluxe executive room on the 4th floor. The room was amazing with a well stocked fridge and drinks selection as well as luxurious products in the bathroom. The only bad point in the room was the bed. It was so firm I spent most of each night on the sofa due to pressure pain. I agree with what others have said too about noise from other guests. Whilst sitting in the sofa when guests in adjacent rooms walked the floor shook. And sounds really traveled. Breakfast was a let down. I expected eggs Benedict etc to be included within the price charged. No. These along with other items were £8.50 extra. The first morning there was a problem in the kitchen with a delivery. We know this happens as we work ourselves in hospitality. This caused the staff to have to serve everything to the table. Including cereals and fruit. One man at the table next to us had been waiting 40 minutes for his food after ordering and after complaining about the wait his food was immediately brought out to him. Our cooked food came out and everything was over cooked. This didn’t get better on other mornings even when self service was in place. The sausages were always black and over cooked. The staff serving were always helpful and polite. Just one let them down. One male member of breakfast service stood complaining to guests about how he’d complained to managing staff that they couldn’t do this and they needed more. It was bad practice and really didn’t make them look good. For the quality of service we expected he didn’t live up to it even on subsequent mornings. After being woken up and running down to reception at 12.45am due to fire alarm going off and it being a false alarm due to a sign hitting a call point. There was no explanation or apology the next day. The room lacked details of services available whilst there such as buying passes for pleasure beach from reception. Times of breakfast etc. even this was not visible in booking confirmation. A welcome brochure would have been nice with menus etc in. I must say the room and most staff were amazing. But the food let it down. Having stopped previously in the sister hotel the big blue we would rather go there. Enjoyable but don’t think we’ll be back as for a high class establishment things did really...
Read moreStaff were lovely. Breakfast was nice. Some of the snack food could have been better for a five star hotel; incoming very critical review.
Was not aware of the parking fee until the day of arrival 18 pounds a day (never Incurred a charge before for parking that's a first). You need to ring ahead to reserve a parking space if you are disabled and be sure to bring your blue badge. Otherwise normal parking is provided through a barrier.
We paid for an expensive room overlooking the sea. It was a lovely room, the room felt very welcoming and homely, they have their own special AC unit that is very efficient at controlling room temperature. Bathroom was very pretty had a bit of trouble getting in the shower as a disabled person though. The bed was like a bolder and you can hear people above you creaky floorboards something to bare in mind if you are a light sleeper. The internet is quite slow and if you want entertainment you have the choice between free TV (which is difficult to navigate with their hotel tv) or £15 a movie on their server. We managed to watch Netflix instead just about.
One of the main things we were looking forward to was room service. Sadly instead of being 24 hours, on the day of arrival it changed to being only available from 10pm to midnight. Was really looking forward to relaxing in private; but the time was a little inconvenient we had long gone to bed before 10pm.
It was our 5th year anniversary, but in all honesty the hotel made no effort to make it special; dropped a lot of hints before and during the visit. Spent a lot of money too at their bar. If you are having a special occasion maybe somewhere else is suitable otherwise this hotel was great for a short stay in Blackpool; not that the alternatives were any better. At least when we went out for dinner to Bella Italia they gave us lemon Cello shots; don't think they are 5 star rated though :P .
We didn't really spend long in the hotel anyhow, mostly out and about in Blackpool. So if you want to visit our UK Vegas this is unfortunately as good as it gets really.
My review is heavily critical simply because they boast 5 stars, but give 3 star quality (with 5 star price), little effort to make special occasions special. I think if the price reflected the true experience then i'd have been a little more understanding. The cleaning staff were amazing though very courteous and...
