I was in the Bishopthorpe Road area and was looking for a place to grab coffee quickly. I saw this place had a couple of people queuing outside so thought the coffee must be decent.
The two parties in front of me were served at the little table area where payment is made, they waited whilst they got their coffees and food.
Then it came to being my turn.. I was greeted in a stand-off ish way, Iām guessing this was probably due to me dressing all in a tracksuit after the gym, combined with a face mask, but Iām speculating. My order was taken and instead of waiting where everyone else had for their order I was sent around the corner to wait, I definitely felt uncomfortable at this point and had a different experience to those served before me.
Then when my coffee was passed to me through a side window, it was immediately closed once I had the coffee. No offer of sugar or a napkin and no thanks or have a nice day.
Felt very awkward and judged, not a nice experience. Coffee was okay...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy husband had a very similar experience to a previous poster which makes me think this is definitely a shop that isnāt keen on unfamiliar faces & has gotten a bit big for its boots. We stay in the Bishopthorpe Road area often at the campsite round the corner. My husband went to grab me some breakfast from there this morning. First time round he was sent away till 10am as no food was ready (it was 9.30 ) but did purchase a very small Ā£3.50 coffee.
When he returned at 10 he too was greeted in a very unfriendly way, order was taken & he was also sent outside to wait, for 20 mins! Might I add it was also very cold. Why they couldnāt have taken his order at 9.30 and had it ready at 10 I do not know. Or even told him it would be a long wait. He was definitely made to feel uncomfortable. He was just trying to get me a nice breakfast & ended up being treated rudely & snobbishly. All in all a bad experience, food was also mediocre...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI love this place. Love, love, love. The two folks who run it are really friendly, their coffee is really good and changes occasionally, their cakes though. The cakes are where it's at. They have some they get in from elsewhere like croissants etc from the Haxby bakery but if you're going to S&R don't get those - get their babka buns in the morning if they still have any. They're like sweet bread rolls all twisted up with sugary syrup and they look like they'll be dry but they are so soft and squishy, tearing them apart is delightful. They're vegan too, and they have a huge range of vegan cakes, muffins, etc. They do sandwiches but I've not tried those...
