Robinsons Cafe — Restaurant in Great Britain

I so want to love this place and frankly I did. Having moved to York recently, it’s been a favorite of my young daughter. The last two visits went from bad to “I’m done.” The food is great and the hash browns, which I love are perfect! Yet this last visit felt like we weren’t “seen.” The service was just so disappointing as if we were a burden. The first two times eating here it was as if we found our place. However, the service has gotten progressively dismissive. We weren’t given cutlery, or napkins. When our hash browns came and we were asked if we wanted sauce, i asked for ketchup and a plate and forks. Ketchup came but no plate, no forks. We just ate with our fingers and dipped the hash browns in the ketchup we squirted on a napkin. When we were done and we asked for the bill no one came with it. I had to ask a second time while another 7 minutes passed. Others around us were attended to, given water and glssses, napkins and cutlery and were checked on from time to time but it was as if we’d didn’t exist. As bad as it has gotten for us, the one exception is Flo who is amazing. She is the one consistent aspect of our Robinson’s experience that has been positive and in our earlier visits, she was a joy to see and have serve us. We've been back again today 1st Feb 25!! 5 of us with a booth style table, excellent meal and the staff are so attentive & friendly... See my original review below 👇🏼 Tried for the first time, and found this place is a new favourite, the queue outside waiting to go in speaks volumes. This was well worth the short wait of approx 15 mins to be seated. Situated in a lovely location, just a short walk to the town centre, convenient carpark nearby. The staff were all so friendly, bubbly and serving with a smile, very attentive. There is lots of choice on the menu, but all 3 of us were taken in by the pancake stack. My daughter ordered the pancakes Berry Compote, Maple Syrup & Creme Fraiche pancakes 'Full Stack' which consists of 3 pancakes, layered with creme Fraiche, maple syrup and lots of delicious fruity berry Compote. My husband and I ordered the Streaky Bacon, Maple Salted Butter and Maple Syrup pancakes, these were so tasty, the salted butter was devine. We also ordered a bowl of hash brown clusters as a share. All washed down with Americano coffee. Well what can I say, this place is the bee's knees. I highly recommend. The servers were fantastic....

I’ve driven or walked past Robinson’s most days over the last 3 years and seen the queues, day in day out (except Wednesday as they are closed)

Can somewhere be this good to make people want to wait, rain or shine? I was so intrigued that I was willing to queue, although I did tell my wife that if we arrived and there was a queue, we’d just go somewhere else. Fortunately no queue however we still queued alone as the restaurant was full. Stupid me.

As with most trendy (and not so) places in York, staff are aloof. The lady that came out to give us our menus, presumably to speed things up, didn’t mention how long we could possibly be waiting for a table. After 15 minutes, my wife had to ask the question.

I’ll cut to the chase, we had all of 2 bacon rolls (hard to get wrong) Steak and eggs (they got this wrong - gristly steak and have my doubts wether it was actually sirloin, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs (very good) and a side of hash browns (ball shaped and very good) Coffee was outstanding so the only thing that wasn’t great was the steak.

Service was just okay, ambiance was good and had a nice vibe. I’d go again but just wouldn’t...
