" Quintessentially Character Full " Firstly as always my reviews are 100% honest based on my own findings and am not influenced by early reviews ... The lovely hosts have been in the Rum Doodle for 6 months and the developing works they are carrying out are enhancing this beautiful B&B and with the theme based on the story of "Rum Doodle" becomes ever present as you walk through the front door as we did for the first of our 3 night stay , It's perfectly located in a quiet enough road , you can take a 15 minute stroll and you'll find yourselves surrounded by unique shops before landing on the edges of the Lake. The breakfast was amazing ... so much on offer , always happy to juggle your order if there was something you did or didn't require it was never too much trouble for them ... (The Scrambled Egg is to die for) all who work there were very pleasant with a warm " Good Morning " as you made your way to a pleasant dining area. Off street Parking was a big bonus for us as we hired a car and the icy roads could have been somewhat of a concern so a big 10/10 for that :) The room themes are very evident and hosts are striving to make them amazing with the works they having done ... a Big Plus !! Sadly a minor negative for me (and these negatives bear no slight on our stay or our Hosts just a personal finding) our room (Room 7) was like a sauna and made for uncomfortable sleeping for us but our hosts bent over backwards for us with fans and air conditioning unit brought up to our room ... a very Big Thank You for that. Also the only other slight negative for me was the bed , being an in keeping bed to match the theme of the room I found the mattress a little to low resulting in me kicking the brass foot end rail waking me up this again only something I deem a negative. Over all our stay was nothing more than 99.9% there ... Thank You so much for the bottle and pleasant welcoming card a bonus second to none. Will be back in the Lakes for sure and only one place to stay ... assuming there is a room...
Read moreI booked Rum Doodle because of the customer reviews and was not disappointed. There's lots to praise about this B&B, but the standouts for us were the comfy bed, quiet and welcoming atmosphere, and heavenly breakfast.
Cosy Bed:
I usually struggle with B&B beds as they're usually very hard, yet this one was soft but with good support.
Quality Sleep:
I picked the attic suite as we are light sleepers and struggle with noise (particularly other guests snoring...). We were pleased our decision to book the suite paid off because we slept soundly and felt very peaceful in this room.
Delicious Breakfast:
Truthfully, the cooked breakfast is probably the best cooked breakfast I've ever had. The high-quality ingredients were apparent just from looking at the plate and this assumption was swiftly confirmed with the first bite. Hats off to the chef, as well as to the waitresses for their warm welcome and excellent customer service.
The only reason I've given 4 not 5 stars for the room was due to the low water pressure. The water cut out on several occasions while showering in the mornings and evenings, but thankfully always came back on within 30ish seconds, so I could rinse away the suds! I suspect many guests showered at the same time, so low water pressure is understandable at peak times and didn't in any way detract from the quality of our stay.
We would happily return to Rum Doodle and very much enjoyed our stay with thanks to all the staff for their warm welcome each day. It's a charming B&B with lots to admire, so it's well worth booking if you're looking for an affordable yet high-quality place to stay in the heart of...
Read moreWe absolutely loved our attic room. The fact our hotel room had a lounge area was amazing. It was cosy, comfortable and modern. We really enjoyed our evenings watching Netflix on the big screen TV. The bed was the most comfortable bed l've ever slept in. They have a foam mattress over a regular mattress that makes for the most amazing night's sleep. The bedroom was so beautifully laid out and decorated. There were two windows which let in a lot of natural light which I love. The breakfasts were included in the price of the hotel room and they were delicious. I had a full English breakfast on the first day and smoked salmon with scrambled eggs on the second day. Both days we had tea and a bowl of fruit too. You would be looking at at least £10 per breakfast if you went out for the same meals. The breakfast host was really friendly and helpful and brought our breakfasts promptly. On arrival we were offered complementary wine. Unfortunately, we're not big wine drinkers so we passed on this. The hotel was extremely clean and modern with a dash of tradition. The hotel is located 20 mins walk from the train station in a beautiful area looking over the hills. It's off the main road so you don't hear much traffic in your room. There are busses to the railway station and the lakeside towns every 20 minutes and the hotel has ample car parking spaces.
There are so many great places to eat around the hotel. We went for a Thai on the first night and a Chinese on the second. All in all we had a fantastic experience at the Rum Doodle and was well worth the...
