I have traveled around the world and in all that time have NEVER switched hotels. Until now. How in the world did this dark, musty, filthy hotel receive a "Trip Advisor Traveler's Choice Award"??? Everything in the room was dirty except the new carpet, which we found odd. The filthy windows would not stay open and it was stuffy and smelled of mildew. The shower had mold, and the lock did not work. A couple guys assured us it was not needed, but we insisted. The new lock was questionable. They left the old one on a ledge inside the room. My adult daughter sat up in bed shortly after getting in bed and said, "My skin is crawling." We stripped off the covers and although we saw nothing, she had several bites the next morning that were NOT from mosquitoes or midges. This room was booked for us by Absolute Escapes in Edinburgh. They found us a new hotel right away and we checked out that morning after breakfast. If our room was that dirty, I shudder to think what the kitchen looked like. Upon checking out, we told the woman at the desk (who was also serving breakfast in a dark, unventilated dining room) our concerns. Her response as she looked down and off to the side: " What is a bedbug?" What indeed. This place was, in a word, gross.

Travelled with family of four. We really enjoyed our stay with Benleva Hotel. Room was spacious enough for two + two kids having their own beds - something that is becoming rare these days (i.e. family rooms - much easier to charge for two rooms, which becomes a new standard these days it seems). Clean, comfy, high ceilings, beautiful views, big windows, comfy beds, clean and refurbished bathroom. What else can you ask for. Breakfast and bar facilities also up to expectations - no complains there. Kids welcome till midnight in bar area which did make a difference. Local brewed pints were a big bonus (IPA is fantastic!). Close to Loch Ness and a good base for local sightseeing. But for us, the biggest advantage of this establishment was friendly staff, especially barman (Ferguson his name is, if not mistaken) - what a friendly character! And only one tiny remark (unless I missed it) - no area to spend some time if you need to do a little bit of work, which is fairly common these days (so a piece of desk to put your laptop on). Obviously not a deal breaker. Overall, thoroughly recommended.

This was a comfortable little hotel with a nice pub and dinning adjacent. Beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean. No complaints about the hotel what so ever! With that said I do have more... While staying at the hotel my iPad was acting wonky! Really, this is the only way to describe it. I was on their supplied internet connection. While trying to login in to the iPad, it was if something else was typing with me. I was first locked out for a minute, the five, then 15 and then 30. I had my husband watch me attempt to log in. He agreed it looked odd. I would open it up and something was trying to log in. My fingers were not even close to the screen. I was eventually able to shut it down and leave it off until we left the hotel, at our next destination their were no issues with the iPad. My husband believes it was caused by spirits left from the hanging tree out front.

We stayed there for one night. First of all there was no one in the reception, we had to ring a bell to check in. We felt like we were some kind on inconvenience for a guy who emerged from the bar. I assume they have only one person to run the reception, the bar and the breakfast etc. Despite the guy coming over he wasn't welcoming not even 'Hi how are you?' Just 'Name? (silence while we filled our details) ' this is your room key'. Been shown the way to the room so at least that.

The room was tidy but there was few things that made us feel like the room is overpriced. There was tea and coffee facilities in the room but only one kind of breakfast/black tea and instant coffee (and milk). As neither of us can drink caffeine we had no use from it. But managed to but some herbal tea in a convenience store in Drumnadrochit.

No hair dryer in the room. Very very small TV (maybe like 14/15").

The doors to bathroom would not even fully close, good that me and my fiance are not so bother but some people may find it uncomfortable not being able to lock themselves in the bathroom, no lock inside the bathroom and the door didn't close as they felt like are badly fitted or expanded due to moisture.

The room and bathroom generally looked tidy. The problem is it wasn't clean very well. When I went in shower I discovered mould on the shower and shower head! And this doesn't build up after one use, so someone must have clean it quickly but never bother too actually do some deep clean. Also mirror in bathroom was fitted horizontally seems like for shorter people I needed to bend my knees to be able to see my full face in it. I am 5'8" (173cm) so not the tallest. Also maybe if everything else would be OK I wouldn't bother to mention but there was no toilet roll holder. So bit awkward sitting on the toilet and trying to reach behind you to grab a toilet roll.

Bed was ok. Some kind of springs not the worse, not the best. Clean, fresh bedding.

Breakfast was included, but served only between 8am and 9am which seems only for the convenience of the owners. Portions were very large which is good for some. So rather a plus than minus. Continental buffet in form of cereal and yogurts, apple and orange juice and milk, no fruits. No green tea so presumably only coffee or black tea to choose from. Options of cooked breakfast. Breakfast was well cooked and tasty. It took very long time to get it thou. One person serving and cooking for everyone! And also doing check outs! One of the other customers actually knocked on the kitchen doors to ask something cause we were left there in the dinning room by ourself really. It's pitty as the server was lovely during breakfast. And the same woman checked us out she was nice and actually asked as about our trip etc. But you could see she was busy so I gave up on mentioning the dirty shower head which I really find absolutely...

So, I’m going to be constructive and start with the good points! Hotel is lovely, room was lovely and situated within walking distance of the main Loch Ness visitor centre etc. we checked in and when we enquired if we needed to book the dining room for dinner that evening but was told that a reservation wasn’t necessary! Our room was lovely, clean, airy, with shutters and sash windows that worked! We walked into the main area and did a bit of exploring when it started to rain, we sought refuge in a cafe and wasn’t too worried as it was licensed and they served food, what more could you want? However when the power was knocked out obviously we had to change plans! We were kindly given a lift back to the hotel so we went and waited for the power to come on! As it didn’t seem to be happening, and it was now 6ish and we hadn’t eaten, we made our way down to the candle lit bar! We asked if they would be able to make us a sandwich but were told that it was too dark in the kitchen they couldn’t see enough to make us a sandwich, so we sat and had a drink and a few bags of crisps! When eventually the power came back on at about 7.30, we enquired again if they would now be able to make us a sandwich but just got a ‘no we’re not able to do food’??? We didn’t expect anything hot but a sandwich or a salad would’ve been nice? The following night there still didn’t seem to be any sign of food being served so we went to the Loch Ness Inn nearby and had a lovely meal! The morning we were leaving we went down for breakfast, having submitted our pre order form the night before and what time we were going to be down for breakfast! We had to wait a good while to get our breakfast, during which time we could hear the two ladies on duty arguing in the kitchen, with the door to the breakfast room wide open, we heard a lot of shouting and then someone telling the other one to F off, it was all rather uncomfortable and not very professional to say the least! We ate our breakfast and as we’d already paid upfront we just left our key at reception and left! It’s such a shame, it’s a lovely building, the rooms are lovely but something needs to be done about the bar, it’s very uninviting and lacks atmosphere, but more there needs to be some effort put in to provide residents with the option for an evening meal! The reason we booked there was because of the bar and the food facilities that were advertised as a feature of the hotel! There was no food, an unpleasant/unwelcoming atmosphere in the bar and obviously very unhappy staff! I’m sorry to say that unless things change, although the hotel itself is a lovely building, we...
