So... nipped in here, after seeing reviews on Google and TripAdvisor. Our is a mixed review. with possitive and negatives, in line with our experience.
Upon entry my wife and I wasnt greeted. Mix-match furniture which we liked, we just sat at the end of a sharing bench. (Good idea) unfortunately very uncomfortable/tight squeeze. So unable to relax properly.
We looked at the menu for a while. (Found on a chair)Unsure how ordering process worked, after some time, my wife went up and ordered. (After this we witnessed people greeted, receiving menu and table ordering) we were taken back, as there was a couple of staff around, taking amongst themselves on arrival.
Anyway. This older lady (later found out she was the owner/manager) came across stroppy/fed up/annoyed. When speaking about slight addition to meal. (An egg) stating " training staff in the kitchen, so would like to stick to set menu.because kitchen staff would be annoyed"(Which is fine, just put on a laugh/ lighthearted response) Food arrived, I had a cream cheese and avocado bagel. -fresh/tasty couldn't enjoy side salad, covered in red onion.oh and randomly a poached egg, which also came as a surprise to manager serving our meals.
My wife had a small English breakfast, this was hot, crispy bacon, flavourful sausage, and yummy hashbrown- did not disappoint. Upon serving meal by manager, she appeared to soften, became approachable, and laughed. (Wonderful) answering our questions on the local area. I had Chai latte - made with oat milk - one of the best, full of that Chai flavour/taste that I've had. My wife had tea-said it was nice.
Paid at the counter. Yes The Cranberry is accessible but to a point. There are stairs to the bathroom, (which we didn't use) glad we managed to get a parking spot, just opposite the cafe. But very few spaces. Inside tables feel close together, so would be very difficult with a wheelchair, when The Cranberry is busy/peek times. Not spoken to upon leaving.
So unlike alot of other reviewers experiences, we didn't recieve the personal element to this independently run cafe. Which is always where we will...
Read moreI went to Cranberry Swamp with my Mum when she came over to visit, after many times my Maths teacher recommended this cafe to me. She especially recommended the Mexican eggs, which we decided to have, alongside with some green tea (served in a very cute pot! Although there could have been MORE tea, you know, there is never too much tea). They were DELICIOUS. I had to stop myself from licking the plate and cutlery (which I would have done if I were not in a public place), it was pretty hard... This is how good they were. Most of dishes are served in portions that you can easily share between two people (two tortillas, two eggs, two slices of toast...) so you can either share a meal if you just want a snack or order two things and have a bit of each. There is good music in the cafe and the interior is beautifully designed. Dishware is very cool and colourful. Cranberry Swamp is a great place just for chillin' - there are some magazines available for you to read as well, and the prices are not too high. All food on the menu is kind of similar, but it's also tummy-friendly - it's all gluten free, so no nasties. I would also say it's healthy, none of that deep fried stuff you can get at the Whitby pier. Cranberry Swamp has a satisfying selection of hot and cold drinks, a few kinds of cake available every day, however they could look a bit nicer - have some better decorations on them (I won't even say how good cakes look at the Blue...
Read moreA really lovely little café in the heart of Whitby but out of the way of the noise and hustle&bustle the seaside front brings. I visited with my parents and sister on 28/12/23 and we were amazed at this little café. 1 member of staff serving the whole café and 1 member of staff in the kitchen preparing all of the food. They were so organised and we didn't have to wait long for anything. The vast array of food and drink available was unbelievable. From dairy free to gluten free to meat to vegan, we were blown away at the variety you could order. The staff were friendly, the café was clean and cosy and had a lovely atmosphere. The food was so tasty and the portions were big for the price! Overall, one of the best cafe's I and my family have ever been in purely for the variety of food and drink. Definitely a must visit when in...
