Avoid at any cost *|****Extreamly Poor Hygiene *|1 Star - Unbearable Odor and Poor Customer Service|||Booking date 25/08/24 to 27/08/24 |Cost :£351 |||I had an absolutely terrible experience at the Britannia Inn Hotel in Ilford. What was meant to be a comfortable stay turned into a nightmare due to an overpowering, nauseating smell permeating the entire room.||Pros:|- None that I can think of based on my experience||Cons:|- Unbearable, persistent odor in the room|- Poor customer service and lack of problem-solving|- Inadequate alternatives offered|- Forced to leave late at night with my family|- Refusal to offer any form of compensation||Upon check-in at 2 PM, I immediately noticed a strong, unpleasant odor in our assigned room. I promptly reported this to the staff, who showed me another room - which, shockingly, had the exact same smell issue. Hoping it might improve, I aired out the room and left for several hours.||Returning tired at around 9-10 PM, we found the stench just as strong. The front desk provided room spray, but its effect lasted mere minutes before the smell returned. Multiple attempts with the spray proved futile.||When I requested a room without the odor issue, I was told none were available. The staff seemed indifferent to our plight and offered no solutions. With two children also suffering from the smell, we had no choice but to abandon our booking at 10:30 PM and find alternative accommodation.||The hotel's refusal to offer any refund or compensation for this abysmal experience is the final straw. It shows a complete disregard for customer satisfaction and basic hospitality standards.||I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this hotel to anyone. The combination of the intolerable smell, inadequate response from staff, and refusal to make amends makes this one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. Future guests, consider yourself warned - you might end up on the street late at night rather than in a...
Read moreI booked a room at the Britannia Inn and arrived on the day. Thr receptionist at the Britannia in stated we were to go to his sister hotel, the lucky 8. and was very unfriendly This I found strange to start with. you book a hotel based on the write up for that hotel. We paid for street parking next door to the Britannia Inn. So was quite frustrated when we were moved. When we got there and the reception seemed OK. The receptionist took us to our room but walked outside of the hotel and walked down a grotty back alley which had what appeared to be bedsits/social housing. We were shown the room and we left our baggage and went into London. We thought, we will try to make the best of it. When we returned, the smell of vomit in the room was overwhelming, probably because we had shut the windows, which were open when we got there.|There was drugs being smoked in the room downstairs. The room itself had holes in the wall, public hair in the toilet and the room was in a terrible condition. I would expect better quality in a prison.|I went to reception to complain. Too complain and ask for a room change. I was told no. I should have mentioned it earlier. I then stated i wanted a refund. I was then showed to another room/bedsit. it was identical to the other room, accept it didn't smell of vomit.|I asked for a refund and was told no. She stated this hotel was an upgrade from the Britannia, so goodness knows what that was like.|I was then told to speak to Hotel.com who i booked through.|They refused to refund me stating there was a no cancellation policy..... We hadn't cancelled. The room was not fit for purpose. I had to drive an 11 and 12 year old back from London to Bristol at 1830, not getting home until 2200. I have received no refund or communication from the hotel. Do not book here. It is not safe.|I will be writing to trading standards. This hotel should be shut down.|I was in too much of a rush to get out, didn't take...
Read moreNot very guest friendly.
Good: Amenities such as fridge, microwave, kettle, teas and coffees, TV Inside of fridge clean Inexpensive compared to average London rates Free breakfast of good quality 👍
Bad: Shower runs cold and is broken Inside of microwave very tatty Inconsistent cleaning job Wi-fi does not work at all and 4G connection extremely bad Negative experience with the receptionist staff upon arrival
Ugly: Room in a terrible state. Food(?) stains on ceilings, walls, light switch!!! Dirty handles Thick build-up of black mould around rim of shower from inconsistent cleansing Cobwebs!! Duvets and mattresses need to be replaced or better hidden
I was prepared for wear and tear, but still expected a clean room and functioning shower! But I did not manage to get a single shower during my time spent here, and was very unsettled and underwhelmed.
The thought of touching handles or opening the fridge/microwave door or turning the light switch on with my bare hands made me feel uncomfortable, because I didn't know what they had cleaned and what they had not.
I would have preffered a clean and functional en-suite room with no amenities to what I was provided with. The least a hotel should be doing is cleaning room surfaces down thoroughly after each use!
If the hotel staff kept room maintenance to half the standard the kitchen staff kept breakfast service, this would definitely be at least a "3 star hotel". But the receptionists, cleaners and managers are definitely letting their kitchen staff down, as the state of the rooms makes you sceptical about the quality of the breakfast.
What I was expecting: Clean, guest friendly double room with functional shower and wifi
What I got: Slapdash cleaning job, double bed in a single room and NO Internet...
