We are currently staying at Citadines Barbican with two more nights left, and our experience has been deeply disappointing due to unprofessional and disruptive behavior from the staff. Earlier today, when we returned from lunch, we were publicly accosted in the lobby by the senior receptionist, who shouted across the reception desk at us, demanding our room number to verify if we were staying at the hotel—presumably because we looked like we didn’t belong here? We’re not really sure why this happened, but it was rude and completely unnecessary. After confirming we were guests, she abruptly shifted the conversation to inquire whether we had signed the necessary pet paperwork—likely to disguise the rudeness of her initial behavior. This was not only embarrassing, as the senior receptionist was mid-way through serving another guest, but it was also unnecessary, given that all procedures had been followed upon check-in.||Since then, the issue has continued to escalate. The staff have repeatedly emailed us while we are trying to enjoy our stay, claiming they cannot find the pet agreement and asking us to sign it again. The Front Office Manager has acknowledged the missing form in an email, and while I understand the importance of this document, the way the situation has been handled—interruptions, constant emails, and a lack of discretion—has made our stay far less enjoyable than it should be.||Even if the form wasn’t signed, which I’m quite sure it was, this is not how these situations should be handled. I don’t work in hospitality, and even I can recognize how poorly and oddly this has been dealt with. We have two more nights here, and frankly, I don’t even want to leave the room because of the awkwardness of walking through the hotel lobby after these interactions.||I cannot recommend staying here, which is a shame because the 1-bedroom apartment itself is a 10/10. Citadines must improve staff training and internal processes to ensure guests are not burdened with...
Read moreWe needed a last minute stay not far from the Farringdon stop on the Elizabeth line. Booked a one bedroom for three adults (including our 35 year old child). The room was very clean and well equipped. A kitchen you could easily cook basic meals in including the cutest little dishwasher I’ve ever seen. We didn’t really use it tho. We did use the combo washer/dryer which was really handy but super slow. ||The living area was really comfortable to hang out in, and there was a spot for eating, too. The pull out couch was actually configured like two single beds, which I’ve never seen before. Our child was comfortable in it. The bedroom had a proper king sized bed - very comfortable. Plenty of closet space. Clean and nicely fit out bathroom with good towels. No face cloths (a common enough theme in Europe so I pack my own :)). ||Common area downstairs was comfortable with an attached cafe. Didn’t use the gym but it looked small but equipped.||While we were hanging out in the lobby waiting for the room (we were early) we did witness some stressed travelers and caught some complaints - I think they might refer to smaller rooms so bear that in mind if you’re not looking at the one bedroom. ||The hotel is well located 5-10 minute walk from the Elizabeth line and nearby to other public transport. It’s not the prettiest street but you can walk to a lot great spots like Chartehoyse Square and even St. Paul’s. Small Tesco express a block away for basics - M&s Foud, Aldi and a Waitrose a bit further off (maybe a 10-15 minute walk walk). Loads of restaurants from the super fancy (amazing meal at Barts) to very good pub food (Fox & Anchor) to basic sandwich shops all within easy walking distance.||I was really just looking for a decent clean place to sleep one night to bridge a shady reservations nearby, so I wasn’t expecting much more than basic. Pleasantly surprised, therefore. I would consider staying here again. Very decent value...
Read moreFor the amount of money that you pay to stay here this is the most insane place you could book. There is only one washing machine and one dryer for the whole 7 floors of this hotel. Not only that, they have a staff member employed to do the in house washing at 10pm at night using the same singular machine. See attached photos (towels & doonas) for the amount of washing that staff member said they have to do in the same machine at 10pm at night. You can't book the washing machine in advance, you can only ask the front desk to activate it when it is free. As you can imagine it is never free, quite often there is a line up of guests in the basement waiting for the machine while the staff try to sneak the in house washing in between guests using it.
Management of staff and resources is poor. The staff at the reception desk are incredibly rude and abrupt. Their attitude implies they simply don't care. Consistently on their personal phones or computer, even while you are waiting to talk to them. Majority of the time the staff don't speak English which makes it incredibly difficult to communicate. As a result there is alot of miscommunication. Please note all of these issues were brought to the managements attention multiple times with no outcome.
Staff will let themselves into your room within 2 seconds of knocking on your door and turn up to service your room on a different day to the one they tell you and at all hours could be 9am or 4pm. During our last week of our long stay, room service didn't come and we had to request it. The room is clean and modern, however for the amount you are paying it is very small and the amenities are limited. The aircon is noisy and you can hear people in their rooms from the hallway. Do yourself a favour and go...
