This is a so-so review. We had absolutely no problem with the staff whatsoever during our staff. Everyone was more than accommodating & helpful. That includes wait staff, dining room, front desk, etc. One gentlemen (I did not get his name) went out of his way to give us a personal printed map of the subway AND drew on it with instructions. The room we booked (double deluxe) was a decent size. The bed (probably close to a USA king) is big & accomodated my 6'4 husband just fine. Curiously, throughout our entire stay both of our lower backs, shoulders, & hips ached terribly. Neither of us usually have these issues & were both in our early 30's so i think its safe to blame the bed. We sleep on a memory foam at home so perhaps we're not used to the firmness. The bathroom is quite small with no bathtub. I do know some Hilton hotels have a "green initiative" so I understand but still disappointing to me. I really could have used one after being out in the city all day in the rain. Our room was riverside. Not much to really boast about there since it's pretty dingy & basically concrete. My biggest gripe is that it just wouldn't get cool enough. Kind of unfortunate considering it was December. To alleviate the stuffy heat we had to keep the window open which obviously made sleeping difficult since the hotel is so close to the London city Airport that you felt like they may land on the building. In addition to Boeing 757's flying overhead at all hours, we were lucky enough to hear construction being done on the building next door. When the window was closed, it wasn't AS loud. Yes, we did ask for the AC to be checked. We were told it was running as it should.
There was zero space to put your clothes away. Only a small wardrobe to hang up a few items. The wardrobe just has a little metal peg instead of a bar going across. After we hung up our jackets there was no room for anything else. There was no dresser or anything to put folded items away. It's very inconvenient to live out of a suitcase & dig through it every day especially when you have to leave it open on the floor. My suggestion is to place the tea service & coffee maker on the desk. That would allow some room for shelves to put up folded clothes and make it easier to use the kettle. The room was clean & tidy. The cleaning crew do a fabulous job.The water is hot! The linens & towels are good. I'm a full figured woman & appreciated having towels that wrapped fully around my bosoms & derriere. We appreciated getting glass water bottles and we were able to ask for water at the front desk with no fuss. They were also replaced daily during cleaning. I found it odd that there wasn't a switch for my side table's lamp. If you want the bedside lights on, it HAS to be both. Very unusual design choice. The location is excellent if you need to attend an event at ExCel but definitely not for any sightseeing. It was a solid 45 mins via subway or uber to get to anything in the city. The walk to the subway station is not terrible. Maybe 10ish minutes. Breakfast is decent. They offer a good solid selection of hot & cold options. The espresso machines were much appreciated. Loved having the option of getting nicely fried eggs instead of reconstituted shelf stable scrambled eggs like you usually get. The bar was beautiful & the drinks were good. Overall not terrible, definitely not THE worst place we've stayed but also has some issues. I'd probably be more upset if we had paid for it ourselves but luckily this was a business trip for my husband & his company paid for this. Overall 50/50 rating. Don't come expecting a luxury hotel. Don't book if you aren't up to taking the subway station & switching to multiple lines to get places or if you don't want to drop $40 on an uber one way. This is definitely more of a budget hotel that is a good solid option for anyone trying to stay in London but can't afford to pay the exorbitant prices closer to the...
Read moreOur family had the most amazing stay here at during our birthday week. The hotel is located right behind Excel London by the Royal Victoria Docks. The check-in experience was very smooth. We were welcomed by the friendly front desk staff. They made note of my booking request for a room with a view which was really attentive of them. We were given some warm welcome cookies which was a nice touch. My son also got given a kids amenity/activity pack which he was delighted about. We then got to our room which was a family room with a single bed. I think we have been upgraded as I booked the one with a sofa bed. In the room we were surprised by balloons, cupcakes, and complimentary water. It made us feel very special indeed. The room was very clean.
We had dinner at the restaurant and was greeted with smiles by all the staff including the chefs. Riaz went above and beyond making sure we were looked after. Also Yash and the other lady working with him (sorry didn't get the chance to get her name), they did a superb service. My son had the kid's meal - fruits and yoghurt, chicken goujons with sweet potato fries and ice cream selection and he said the food was very tasty and 'one of the best restaurants he's ever eaten'. Me and my husband had the sharing vegetarian platter, chicken tikka, and mixed meat grill. Everything tasted divine. I would say they sourced high quality ingredients for their food and the chefs did a great job. The Sous Chef, Alfredo gave us cupcakes for desserts and he was very friendly to us too. We also met the operations manager who greeted us for our birthdays.
Back in the room, the shower is complete with toiletries and has good water pressure. We forgot to bring slippers and we got given complimentary by the night reception staff.
The bed was comfortable and the aircon, telly and wi-fi worked very well.
In the morning, we had the buffet breakfast, there was a great selection of hot food and continental food.
Again, the staff gave exemplary service. We were allowed late checkout as part of our Hilton Honours membership. We will definitely come back here again. I highly recommend this hotel.
Thank you DoubleTree by Hilton...
Read moreWhen it comes to a hotel with a view this one doesn't go wrong. By a waterfront snd London city airport breathtaking views galore literally. Free parking for guests around the hotel which is a bonus. As we walked in to check in we were greeted with 2 warm welcome cookies that went down the palette very well, and given information about breakfast and the facilities around the hotel. They upgraded our room to Queen Deluxe room with a view as it was my boyfriend's birthday which was really nice for free as well. The hotel is clean and kept really well, we were on floor 5 and what l loved about the rooms was before you walked in you could see that from the time the room was cleaned and sanitised noone else had been in there after as you had to break a seal when you got into your room as the firs person back in there after the cleaner. This showed us how strongly they are adhering to covid restrictions and rules and made us feel more comfortable and safe. The room was huge amazing size bed as you can imagine with a draw lace curtain snd curtain opening up to a mini terrace and a view out of this world. It was an amazing sight. We booked our stay through groupon and it gave us a dinner spend on maim course in the evening and included breakfast the next day too which was convenient. For dinner we had salmon for me and a burger for my boyfriend. The next morning we won't up to go for breakfast and was utterly spoilt for choice. So much variety and things on offer you don't know what yo do with yourself. I went to the gym about 45 mins after breakfast and it was again highly sanitised only 2 people at a time in each session of an hour each. After checking out l checked out the bar whilst waiting for my boyfriend to come and pick me up as he had gone off to a meeting. The waiting area was so comfort with beautiful furniture and decor that just inspires you to redecorate when you...
