Booked a table for Friday 15th Aug 7.30pm|We ordered half a chicken & chips and a steak and ale pie.|We were told they had no butter chicken curry |Ham & eggs or sausage and mash. ||Dessert of chocolate orange cake and lemon cheesecake. Which was all lovely.||The only 2 slight negatives was a possible misunderstanding with our server.|I tried to order a virgin Mojito, she said there was no mint, I said fine as its a garnish, I'll have without. She then came back and said the bar is not doing cocktails at 7.30pm??? I asked why? She shrugged. So we asked for virgin bloody Mary's instead. She looked at us blankly then said "soup?" I replied "no, a Bloody Mary without the alcohol!" Again I was met with the no cocktails line. Starting to get frustrated I explain a virgin Bloody Mary is not a cocktail it's essentially tomato juice & spices. Finally she relied "uhghh you want tomato soup with spices?" "NOOO" I replied "we want the bloody Mary mix without the vodka!" Omg how hard was that to understand? She Finally came out with two bottles of Tom's spiced tomato juice. ||The second negative was we were barely half way through our main when she came back and plonked our deserts on our table. I responded "Excuse me we are not even finished yet!" She smiled and walked away. |The same girl was serving a table of 4 next to us and I could see they were having an issue with there bill as I politely asked what was wrong. The gentleman said take a good look at your bill when it comes because the server had tacked on a service charge and a tip to their bill per person! Sneaky very Sneaky!||When we were done I asked a different girl for the bill and said we need to split it. She asked do you want to split it equally or by items? I said "we'll by items obviously." She asked if we wanted to pay a service charge we declined due yo our servers...
Read moreIf I could give this place -1 I would. Firstly, it is not a hotel as far as my understanding goes. It's a separate building on the side of a restaurant. |I arrived. Where was the reception? Oh yes it was that tatty little desk tucked away with no-one there. I had to ask bar staff and they were clueless! I had arranged to drop off my suitcase as I was meeting a friend. I explained that I wasn't sure what time I would return so a man gave me a code and told me to use a side door. I arrived at about 12.15. The place was in darkness. No-one to be seen. I assumed someone might have taken my small case to the room. No such luck. After climbing about 5 flights of stairs (the information never said it was not suitable for people with mobility problems). I went into the room. No contact number for anyone. TV didn't work. Heating consisted of 1 or two portable electric heaters. No central heating. An air conditioner without any instructions!|The following morning I expected there to be someone to help. I was mistaken. The only number I had rang in the bar and of course there wasn't anyone there I was supposed to meet my friend who had travelled to the UK from Florence, at 10am. Still no-one there and no-one to help. Eventually I managed to find a chef who had arrived early to do some food preparation. Thank goodness he was able to help and eventually I managed to retrieve my case from a locked cupboard. By the time I met my friend it was almost 12 o'clock. A whole morning wasted. I had to return to Coventry, which left me very little time in the afternoon. To be honest I was so stressed at this point I wasn't good company. The Fox management was informed about this back in February and I wrote a letter to the hotel. So far? Nothing! Obviously the management is as poor as the...
Read moreGreat location, literally a 2 minute walk from the Excel centre, about 5 mins away from City Airport and on the Royal Docks. Has plenty of free parking which is a huge benefit and bonus and probably worth a single night rate alone given it's location in London! Staff are friendly, check-in was a breeze. Hotel is a true 3 star so don't expect the world. Having said this, room are clean, spacious given the style and age of the hotel and beds are comfy. I thought noise from the airport would be an issue but nothing disturbed me during the night. My room (no. 11) had an AC unit (a must in summer) and a heater, hairdryer, and a safe. Hotel has a large beer garden and lots of indoor eating space. It does classic pub food such as burger and chips, pie and chips, salads etc. And all at reasonable prices. I only tried the apple pie. It's huge and tasty. But far too much for one person. Overall a thumbs up...
