I would say that whilst all the staff try very hard, I found the service in the Dockside restaurant for a Saturday evening meal quite odd. For a Saturday night, I would say the restaurant was about a 1/3 busy, with maybe 25-30 covers max... I counted. They had about 4 waiting staff including who I think was a manager of some sort. Whilst they were all quite friendly, it just does seem they're not very attentive, once I had finished, my plate sat in front of me for almost half an hour... when I then had to actually say 'I'm finished with this' to make it clear... I also had to ask for a desert menu, again, seems a little odd in a 4 star London hotel. In my opinion, the staff could do with more training. When I was checking out if the hotel, I could see that another couple were complaining, and I got the impression that it was to do with the restaurant. The food itself was ok, but nothing special and for an ice cream to take 15 mins to arrive when there was only 15 people left in the restaurant seems strange. When it did arrive it was evident that it had been sat there as it had started to melt.
Breakfast was a similar story. It was a lot busier than the previous evening, but seemed pretty chaotic and they had run out of scrambled eggs when I was there (about 9am). There is nothing obvious about what is included, but it's a bit disappointing really, and you would expect more from a Hotel which is essentially a Marriott. It was included in my deal, but if I had paid separately for this, I would have wanted my money back for the...
Read moreThis is a review about their breakfast (you can walk in and eat here even if you’re not an Aloft guest):
The buffet is lackluster, certainly not worth £17.50 even given the usual amount hotel restaurants overcharge. There were the traditional English breakfast components but the scrambled eggs were sitting in a pot of watery liquid, the bacon was tough, and all of it was cold. There is a deli platter section and those things are oddly warm and taste off. Lastly, they advertise gluten free options but really what you can eat then are the baked tomatoes, mushrooms, watery scrambled eggs, bacon, deli platter, and fruit salad. They have no bread substitutes and everything is from shared buffet containers so the odds of cross contamination is SO high. Disappointed and leaving hungry. I suggest crossing the street to buy the buffet at the doubletree, while it’s still a mediocre buffet they at least have safe GF and dairy free options (ask for an omelette to be made!) and their coffee...
Read moreAfter watching/taking part in a triathlon, our party of five headed here for some food and drink. Despite the restaurant being relatively quiet, we had several issues with the service. We asked for a little more time to choose our food, and were then forgotten about. One member of the party had to seek out staff to ask for someone to come and take our order. It then took an hour for our food to arrive, not ideal when one of the party has just engaged in tough physical activity. Again, we had to chase staff for an update on when our food would arrive. Although the food was perfectly acceptable, the level or service really was not. To add insult to injury, we were asked as the last dish was handed over if everything was ok with our food. Give us a chance to taste it first, eh! Most disappointingly, after paying, the member of staff returned to ask us to pay the service charge. We were rather disappointed with the poor service, and being asked to pay for it was somewhat...
