Spent the night here after visiting the London Dungeons, well little did we realise what horrors awaited us here!
First inkling that its not all it seems was when payment was taken 2 days before arrival despite it clearly stating “pay on arrival”.
When we actually arrived we went to check-in, after the staff had finished arguing with another guest, to be asked to pay at the desk. A little back a forth solved that issue.
Next we were told our room was not ready but we could leave our bags in their “secure” luggage room. No sooner had we dropped our bags we were told the room was actually ready.
A member off staff very kindly offered to take us too our room, it took 2 tries as we were taken in the wrong direction at first, but finally a second member took us through a maze of poorly maintained corridors on worn out & stained carpets to our “room”.
The room was equipped with a non functional sink/stove unit (no idea why it was in the room), a tv the size of an ipad and beds that squeaked more than Boris when he hears the word party.
The room was little warm for my liking but not to worry a small desk fan with the power of a blade of grass was discovered in the cupboard that was falling apart.
The bathroom was well furnished with a mouldy shower, water stains on the shower screens and rusted plug holes. The dust in the shower tray even matched that all over the rest of the room!
The only thing missing was the hand-soap but I found it back a reception.
A word of warning the towels like to try and dive off the towel rack into the toilet below for a swim if your not careful.
The beds made for a slightly uncomfortable sleep, perhaps it was the stains or random hairs who knows?
Anyway we was pleased not to spend too long sleeping in on our second day in London, we kindly received a wake up call from the fire alarm at 06:15, it stopped 30 seconds later with no explanation or apology.
We decided to skip the hotel breakfast and go out somewhere else. The smells from the kitchen may have aided that decision.
Checked out a couple hours early with a rather uninterested member of staff who clearly had no time for feedback.
If your after that 1800’s London feel this is certainly the place for you (the curtains even match that time period)!
Never written a review before because I’m a big believer in you get what you pay for but for thar price i was not expecting that dungeon of horrors.
Im sure i’ll return one day when a horror tour company adds it to their list!
The only thing going for this place is its location....
Read moreFirst, the positives - it was cheap, conveniently close to transport links (albeit out in the Bayswater area some distance from most of the city's attractions), and the staff were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, however, the years since I had previously stayed here, admittedly a couple of decades ago, have not been kind. Step through the entrance into the lobby and one is greeted with a fairly typical London hotel reception area, with marble-effect floor tiles, dark wood furnishings, clocks above reception showing the time in three different time-zones, and happy-to-help people at the reception and concierge desks. That's the veneer, though, and when one scrapes it away by heading out of the lobby into the accommodation areas, one gets a very different impression. I should state at this point that there was evidence of some maintenance work going on behind the scenes, so it is quite possible that some long-overdue TLC to the premises was underway; if so, this review may turn out to be a little harsh but one can only speak from experience here. Just off to one side of the lobby were three elevators, only one of which was operational. Our room, on the third floor, could accurately be described as a single room , desperately in need of a lick of paint, installed with a double-bed. When one added the small wardrobe, desk (with kettle and hospitality tray, plus hairdryer) and chair, one was left with very little floor space, the gap between bed and wall on one side being no more than about six inches. Even for London, where small hotel rooms are commonplace, this was certainly on the compact side of bijoux. That said, as a place to sleep, it did the job - the bedding was spotless and, once the logistical challenge of actually squeezing around and getting into bed was overcome, comfortable enough. Breakfast was served in an area off the lobby, and is probably best described as 'adequate', taking the form of a somewhat limited buffet of hot and cold items along with coffee, tea and juices, but with a frequent irritation of having to wait for the cutlery racks to be replenished. Would we stay here again? Probably not... while our stay was part of an inclusive 'rail and hotel' break, and as such was offered at something of a bargain price, the adage that one only gets what one pays for sums it up. Next time I suspect we'll bite the bullet and pay a little more for better-appointed and possibly better-located...
Read moreTerrible! I had trouble finding an available hotel room so I booked the first available option I found online. Which brought me to this hotel and i absolutely hated it. I even booked a double bedroom as they did not have vacant single rooms.
I booked a 4 nights stay for a ridiculous 537£ without breakfast !!! I wouldn't even pay 37£ a night here if I had a choice. (Rip off)
The floors are wooden and squeak like hell everytime I take a step. (Dreadful)
There are no electric plugs near the bed. (Inconvenient)
The window lock is flimsy and I'm scared to break it everytime I want to open the window. (Risky)
The room's door needs to be forcefully pushed or pulled to close and has around 2-3 inches gap at the bottom between the door and the floor! I can hear every step and every word from outside the room and I'm sure anybody in the hallway can hear me loud and clear. (Absurd)
The bed looks and smells clean but I developed some sort of a rash on my arms and neck for some reason. (Worrying)
The curtains on the window are shorter and smaller than the actual window. Since I have to work late and sleep during the morning. This is a nightmare! I got no option but direct sunlight in my eyes with sunrise and throughout the day. Spoke to the reception and their response was "sorry we can't do anything about it, most of our rooms have the same style of curtains" I never knew that curtains of the wrong size are stylish!! (Annoying)
The toilet tap is missing the nozzle head which results in a big splashing mess everytime I use the faucet. I asked the reception for maintenance to come fix it and someone came to check the problem after 2 hours! He just looked at the tap then left and never came back. It's already been 24 hours since he checked it. (Awful)
The internet is weak, slow and keeps disconnecting. If you need to get work done, hotspot through your phone is your best bet. (Unreliable)
I got felt cold, I needed to turn on the heater. It has no knob! Reception had to send someone to my room with a wrench to turn the heater on. (Troublesome)
The reception staff are nice but that won't help when everything else is just terrible !
I do not recommend unless you have no other option but to stay on...
