Went in the early evening for a quick drink. The staff were apathetic and rude to say the least, it's almost as if they were doing ME a favour just by providing basic service.
So anyway, I order my drink and when the price comes up and I proceed to pay, the bartender extends her hand out like some street beggar before I even pull the cash out of my pocket. No biggie I know, but it's the little things like that tend to paint a not-so-positive broader picture. This wasn't helped by the fact that I then had to wait for 10 minutes after being told that the tap for my drink of choice had just run dry. Of course, I would have just asked for something else if I wasn't already charged beforehand since I had to be somewhere after.
In the meantime, I asked another bartender (pixie blue haired lass straight out of Scott Pilgrim) for the time and was immediately blown off before I even had the chance to finish my sentence. Told me that "SHE WAS BUSY!" without even looking at my direction. Lady, it won't cost you more than a second to just say "Sorry, I'll be with you shortly" but that's apparently too much to ask for I guess. By this point I was ready to leave but since I'd already paid for my drink, I had to wait for the original bartender to show up again at her own convenience. When she finally did show, I asked for a refund and she responded by shaking her head and scoffing while reluctantly obliging my request, which was really weird since I doubt it was coming out of her own pocket anyway...
TL;DR, A glorified dive bar/tourist trap with overpriced beer and staff that are "too cool for school", so to speak. Plenty of other pubs within a quarter mile radius but this one does have good outdoor seating so I'll give them that. Maybe I'll just buy some Smirnoff from the Tesco opposite next time and sit there instead,...
Read moreI don't write a many reviews - this on is special. It review is not about the owners or management, it's about the service I received and the food I was served. I arrived at the bar alone, waitress saw me, made eye contact. A few minutes later several other people joined the bar. I was shocked when she looked at me again before serving someone else. I cannot assume it was discrimination, but it certainly felt like it, and I was disappointed. I informed her I would write a review - at that point I felt like it but was not going to. Immediately that I uttered those words the waitress became very aggressive verbally however, and I felt like she was trying to start something, and make me look like a rude customer. I didn't take the bait, so she walked off hastily and served food and delivered drinks and cutlery, walking past me several time, not telling me anything, just walking off right in the middle of this bizarre altercation . Anyway, when she returned she almost spat these words to me, "are you going to order or what". I told her "yea, sausage and mash please"...nice and cool; like she hadn't just been disgustingly rude to me for no reason. She explained she was by herself serving and the bar and doing the food. It was not said in a conciliatory tone - the opposite. In any case the food must have been in an oven for some time as the mash was very dark with a thick crusty skin on it...and if the mash was like that you can only imagine what the sausages were like. I would not have given that to my dog - god rest his soul. It's a place for people that might just be visiting the country; and there are so many nice pubs here - for locals as well as tourists. Terrible food on that day, and disgusting, rude and inflammatory...
Read moreI don’t think I’ve ever left a bad review but, due to the sheer lack of customer service I received from your staff on Saturday, I feel it is necessary. We were in the pub from late morning and ordered breakfast and lunch and some pints and wines. It got to 5pm and the staff started acting very off with us and even refusing to give their names when we asked. When we tried to order we were told we could no order any more drinks as we hadn’t ordered food, however, I am unsure who is ready to order dinner at this time after they had only purchased lunch three hours before? When they said this we were obviously wanting an explanation to which we kept getting told they ‘don’t owe us an explanation’ and wouldn’t tell us why we couldn’t order there anymore. It was also done so indiscreetly that people started to look and, quite frankly, it made us look like we were being a problem when all we wanted was an explanation. We had spent a lot of money in there that day and hadn’t been rude or out of line. Even if we HAD I would expect someone to say so we were given the opportunity to discuss it before being told we were not to be served? Honestly completely disgusting treatment of customers who had been nothing but friendly and the staff we’ve so vile and rude and uneducated in their entire handling of the...
