I and my wife were visiting London recently. We had in the past attended Shabbos services at this Shul. At the entrance we were asked if we were members of the party. I was confused by the question and said we were Jews and wanted to attend Shabbos services. We were told that there was a Bar Mitzvah and the Shul was only open to guests. I told the guards we were visiting from NY and just there for services, not to "crash" a party. I had never been barred entry from a Shul because I was not a member.
