New West End Synagogue - St.Petersburgh Place — Attraction in London

I and my wife were visiting London recently. We had in the past attended Shabbos services at this Shul. At the entrance we were asked if we were members of the party. I was confused by the question and said we were Jews and wanted to attend Shabbos services. We were told that there was a Bar Mitzvah and the Shul was only open to guests. I told the guards we were visiting from NY and just there for services, not to "crash" a party. I had never been barred entry from a Shul because I was not a member. The New West End Synagogue, located in St. Petersburgh Place, Bayswater, London. This is one of the oldest and undoubtedly the most beautiful synagogue buildings in London and, indeed, in the country. It is only the second synagogue to achieve Grade 1 listed status and has been described by English Heritage as "the architectural high watermark of Anglo-Jewish architecture.

The synagogue, which is a constituent of the United Synagogue (Orthodox), serves the Jewish communities of Bayswater, Notting Hill, Kensington, Hammersmith and West London....

Best shul around. When I first moved to London, I went to the Rosh Hashanah Service and met amazing people who invited my for dinner and remained very good friends.

The Rabbi is just lovely and the congregation is so nice, down to earth

Finally, the building is stunning.

Now I have left London, I miss this shul and its community
