My partner and I were relocated to Signature Townhouse Hyde Park by Expedia before arriving in London, because our original hotel had to close for last minute building reparations.
At first, we were feeling hopeful because of how their website looked and from (most of) the reviews we read. The rooms etc. looked very good. Even when checking in, the hotel lobby was clean, bright and looked lovely, as were the front desk staff.
However, this all changed when we were taken to our room. It was a basement room (006) and it truly was horrible. Here is a brief list of things we noticed:
No toilet brush Cobwebs in all corners of the room Marks and hairs on the bedding The duvet cover was too large for the actual duvet Leaking/ low pressure shower Air con not cooling Loud noise from industrial unit outside the room (was told it shuts off in the evening - it doesn't) Towels smelled like old cooking oil/ grease Carpet very dirty and sun damaged Hangars do not fit in the wardrobe Mirror is at chest height
We immediately went to reception and the lady was very apologetic and said we might be able to relocate to another room the following day. We took her up on her offer but the newer room on the first floor was only marginally better.
Upon checking out, we mentioned how disappointed we were with the quality of the rooms given what we were expecting from the reviews and the website. We were told this is common and were apologised to again. The lady on the front desk said she would contact the hotel manager (A. George) to ask him to contact us directly. Which he did and, to his credit (before all of his communication stopped abruptly), he offered us a free nights stay to try and make up for our experience. As we do not live in the UK, I said this wouldn't be possible and instead asked if it would be possible to get the monetary value of the night instead. He then referred me to Expedia and stopped communication.
As I said, the reviews from various websites and how their own website looked really had us fooled. Perhaps we were just unlucky, but when comparing the price to what's actually offered, I would never stay here again.
EDIT: Since leaving this review, Rita (Cluster House Manager) has contacted me to offer a partial refund. This is currently being processed by my travel provider. I am very appreciative of this. Thank...
Read moreOnly stayed the one night and only used to freshen up and sleep but certainly expected more for a 4* hotel. I can also only base it on what was called a "deluxe double" with breakfast and was not a cheap stay.|ROOM|PRO'S: Great area for us as at an event in hyde park, close to park and tube. Very quiet area and quiet in the room over night. Had tea/coffee facility, toiletry, hairdryer, safe, iron and ironing board and air con plus fan.|Unfortunately thats where it ends.|CON'S: The room can only be described as grubby. Furniture battered, carpet threadbare in places and liquid splatter marks and stains up the walls. Bathroom smelt of mould/damp/old water, can't quite describe it ! Cardboard coffee cups (1 each) and no spoons. The mattress was thin and you could feel the springs a bit but if your not a mobile sleeper you will be fine. Curtains didn't fit the full width of the window and didn't want to pull them down trying too much! So light came in at the crack of dawn. |Really hoping breakfast was going to redeem the hotel at this point.|BREAKFAST:|Edible. Thats it! We have all been to a hotel and seen at certain times everyone seems to come down at the same time! DONT! They have 6 tables, thats it. They have the basics, toast, cereal (2 types) mini pastries (2 types) juice and yoghurts. The cooked was ok but definitely lower quality food, beans watery and no taste and hash browns were bit grey in the potatoe. Very small serving dishes so make sure you go under it to get the hot ones. Sausages cheap Cumberland. |Now as I said we only spent 1 night but having been in others in the area that are 4*, this place really isn't that standard. So this review is for anyone who is paying good money for a good length of stay to be mindful of what the price will give you. I am by no means fussy and have stayed in many hotels lower star rating but with the mindset it is lower and have had my expectations pleasantly surprised. I'm afraid I begrudge my hard earned money with this one. Only met 2 staff on this stay and they were lovely so...
Read moreWe originally booked at Lancaster Gate hotel but when we arrived to check in they told us we had been “upgraded” to the hotel down the street which was this hotel. When we got to this one, we told the lady we had been sent from Lancaster Gate Hotel and she had no idea what we were talking about and it took a long time to finally check in. Our room was just a normal small room (nothing “upgraded” about it) and we didn’t even have a mini fridge. They also only gave us one key card for two people so we had to go back to the desk and ask for a second key card.
The worst part about the stay was when I went to shower in the evening, the temperature knob was stuck so the only temperature option was scalding hot. We got someone to come take a look and he couldn’t fix it and said he would manually change the temperature from the boiler room. I waited a bit to give him time to change it but still the temperature was scalding hot so I had to resort to washing myself in the tiny bathroom sink which was very frustrating. Then when I was finally “showered”, I went to use the hairdryer which didn’t work even after trying it in multiple outlets around the room. We were in this hotel for 2 nights but I couldn’t wait to leave so I could go somewhere where I could have an actual shower and didn’t feel cramped in the tiny space.
We had breakfast included but it was nothing special. The breakfast room is quite small and on the second morning when we went for breakfast, there’s weren’t many people in the room but almost all the tables were dirty from people who had finished and left but hadn’t been cleaned up yet.
Location-wise, it’s a good area to stay in but not labelled well if you’re coming from the west side of the street. When we first went to find the hotel, we actually walked past it and had to turn around and walk back to where it was.
Overall, I would not go back here and would not recommend this place. I was very disappointed we couldn’t stay at our originally...
