My wife and I stayed one night. It was so bad, that it wrecked our next day and ended our visit to Plymouth.
The room was stiflingly hot - well into mid twenties throughout the day and night preventing sleep even though we had fans running and window open. This was not due to warm weather or poor ventilation. There must be rogue heat escaping from the hotel hot-water services - it is the only explanation that I could come up with.
To reach that theory I read many reviews. It seems that some rooms are worse than others and it has been happening even in colder months over a long period of time, but was ok years ago. This could happen if maintenance of the plumbing around the hotel and rooms has been done without adequate attention to standards for thermal insulation. The hot water from guest rooms is provided by a hot water circuit which is constantly flowing and hot, Showers and sinks are fed from that circuit - so that guests get immediate hot water. If parts of the system have failed and been repaired or say, showers upgraded etc. the the plumber/hot water/heating engineers would need to refit or replace any thermal cladding that had been disturbed or found to have degraded. Failure to do so would lead to the local escape of rogue heat, heating the adjacent structure (and wasting money!)
I took a shower in the morning and felt decidedly unwell after due to the sauna-like atmosphere - and I do mean sauna, I am familiar with saunas. Stinking hot and humid.
Until they fix this problem, some rooms will be a health hazard especially to vulnerable guests such as the elderly.
A second negative criticism is the very long corridor and the state of the carpets. The carpet and lack of ventilation give rise to a decided stuffy, breath inhibiting sensation - house carpet dust/dust mites, which might cause problems for asthmatics or those susceptible to house dust. Fortunately I am not asthmatic.
The location is not great - adjacent to a very busy and noisy complex road junction and roundabout. It is very easy to miss the entrance from the road and the exit is close to the roundabout requiring rapid crossing of multiple traffic lanes immediately on leaving the hotel carpark. However it is well placed for major roads.
The GOOD BITS are. All the staff we met were excellent. The bed was excellent, just...
Read moreI stayed here around 8 years ago and had a poor experience with excessive noise coming into the room from the main road (traffic and emergency services in the early hours) and waking me up multiple times throughout the night and the wifi speeds were non existent. I thought I would give it another go as it had been a while and they could have changed things, or so I thought... The check in process was ok, I got to my room and there was a smell of mould in the bathroom, the paint was flaking off the walls, but most importantly the water pressure for the shower was almost non existent, I had to run around just to be able to get enough water to rinse the soap off. I asked the receptionist if they could look at the problem, the first words out of her mouth was "how long are you staying for" which I thought was a red flag... Not, "I will get it looked at". I was staying for 4 days, but I didn't see how that could effect the repairs??? Anyway, after the 4 days there was no sign of any repairs to the water pressure or feedback from reception as to any progress. I can honestly say this will be my last stay here, ever. If you want a premier inn, go to the Lockyers Quay instead, I have stayed there many times with little issue. Very disappointing from the hotel, avoid if you want a decent night's sleep and actual water pressure. I do hope they read this and rectify the problems, it...
Read moreComplaints.....Need to have enough water pressure to enable customers to wash their hair and shower properly, Improve water pressure and not to be told stories when complained to front desk 'of engineers coming to sort on 14th August', not have workmen working and chatting from 8am/8.30am ish in corridor outside room and using room next to us as storage for workmen stuff etc, not to have fire alarms going off and having to evacuate twice in 1 night as "false alarms" (1st time apparently someones shower steam set it all off and 2nd time unknown but told false alarm). Emergency Alarm company called after 2nd time to look at alarm system for a fault apparently. The shower setting the alarm off was miraculous considering both our rooms (2 and 3) didn't have enough water pressure to have a proper shower let alone hair wash or provide enough steam to set alarm off. After calling Premier Inn complaint department to complain about these problems all they could do was apologise, very poor customer service indeed considering we use Premier Inn regularly and this particular stay cost us more than £1500 for 2 rooms for 7 nights.||Likes.... Friendly staff, comfortable beds, convenient location for our...
