Stayed at the Premier Inn attached to this hotel for work. I stay away a lot for work and I can't say I rate this place.
Stood at the counter waiting to be seated. It was quite busy. The staff mostly walked past with their head down but a couple of them did acknowledge me and say someone would be with me shortly. A customer walked past me and said "service is terrible isn't it, they've ran out of everything too!" Was seated after 12 mins (just happened to see the time on my phone, I wasn't timing it). My order was taken really quickly and they had what I ordered except they were out of all of the 0% beers, oh well, no biggie.
Food arrived after about 20 mins. I'm not at Mcdonald's so that seemed like a fair wait. However, I think the chips had also been waiting that long as they were stone cold and also looked like they'd seen better days. The burger was lovely though.
There was one family stood at the entrance the whole time I was eating waiting to be seated, they also had a booking. One of them even went looking for a member of staff and couldn't find anyone. A comical moment had to be when the couple next to me ordered steak, they had to ask for steak knives and you'd have thought they'd asked for something ridiculous with how confused the waitress was.
I was asked if I wanted dessert I said yes and was handed a menu. I walked out after 15 mins of not having my dessert order taken. I'll caveat that with my company pay for the bill so I haven't walked out without paying, it's on the room.
There is clearly a staffing and stock issue. Based on other reviews though it would seem this is an ongoing problem that they need to sort. If I come to Plymouth for work again, I'll choose a different hotel and hope the attached restaurant is better.
Did I complain, no because I was back there for my included breakfast the next morning and didn't want sneeze-eggs!

Read moreWe’ve been coming to Beefeater Marsh Mill for decades but I feel our current visit will be our last. On entry we were greeted by a lady who was professional and as we hadn’t booked and it was fairly busy we expressed that we were fine with eating in the bar side to save waiting and we were given menus. At the bar, staff were flitting in and out and not one of them gave a smile, eye contact or any indication that someone would be able to take my order soon. I appreciate they were busy but obviously some staff etiquette training wouldn’t go a miss. My order was eventually taken and the server was very efficient and seemed to be the go to person as all the staff members were asking him questions whilst he was serving me, so probably new staff? Everything was ok up to this point. Our order arrived quicker than expected, especially as it was busy. My partner had ordered fish and chips and I had the ribs and chicken combo. My chips were the only hot food item on the plate both the ribs and the chicken were luke warm but looked cooked and both were tasteless. I suspect the meat items were not fresh and reheated in a microwave. There were no juices flowing like you would get from high heat griddle cooking. Also the corn on the cob was dry and hard. My partners fish was tasteless, presumably frozen fish which is disappointing when you live in a coastal city. The batter was greasy and as such inedible. At no point in the bar area are you asked if your food is ok and as we had booked cinema tickets we had no time to complain. Our last couple of meals here weren’t great but we gave them the benefit of doubt but unfortunately this is the last time ourselves or extended family will be eating here. To make matters worse my partner had stomach upset within the hour and through the night and I spent the night with a bowl next to my bed with signs of possibly...
Read moreFirst time eating dinner here and what a disappointment! We’ve previously had breakfast which has always been lovely but don’t bother on a Sunday evening. We booked for an engagement family meal so there was 16 of us but it was for 5pm so we didn’t expect for them to have run out of everything we asked for. We were put into a side room which we thought was nice as it was a special occasion but we were forgotten. When our orders where taken we were told there was no carrots left for the roast which we can live with but then to be told 25 minutes later that 2 of the starters we had ordered were unavailable too. My daughter ordered the mac n cheese, that was out so ordered the loaded nachos to be told another 15/20 mins later they were also out. My niece managed to get her nachos though ? One person ordered goujons for her starter, the waitress dropped one and said she would replace it and never came back. Eventually our starters were cleared and we waited another 40 minutes for our main to arrive to only be really disappointed by the quality. It was the worst roast I have ever had! Potatoes were really hard, sprouts were solid, gravy was disgusting, parsnips were dry and shrivelled up…. Just awful. Two others had roast and the beef was just pure fat and the veg the same. Two people had the fish and chips and they couldn’t eat it, it was so soggy and had no flavour. Consistency when ordering was bad, some had garden peas some had mushy peas some had none! We then waited another half an hour for our plates to be cleared and another 20 minutes for our desserts to be ordered which we had to find someone first. They then forgot to bring out 2 desserts. Over all so disappointing, would never recommend this place again and our family will never return. The chef’s clearly need to re-train and actually care about the food they are...
