Not only was there no one there to greet us in the afternoon when we arrived but no one bothered to let us know this before we arrived. So we stood waiting for someone to turn up before realising we had to fend for ourselves. After a non existent welcome, you'd think that during our stay someone would have bothered to say hello to us while we were there and to check we had everything we needed. But no, we were ignored by the staff. I overheard the owner telling a coach driver, that the place was small enough to run by itself. Well no, each customer deserves some sort of customer service! They clearly weren't interested in us as we had pre-paid and they had our money. Literally no member of staff spoke to us!||Had to laugh as the cleaner had left an envelope on a dirty stained table in our room requesting we leave a tip! And she managed to pass us without greeting us. Our tip would be to remember your customers pay your salary!||The room was hot and stuffy and no one had bothered to leave a window open to cool it down. There was no air conditioning so an open window would have been appreciated. ||There were several flights of stairs to contend with. We don't have mobility issues but it would be a problem for anyone who does and there was no one to help with our luggage. ||No catering on site and no one to ask where to go for breakfast and dinner etc in the area. Luckily we found a lovely lodge in the area where we were able to enjoy lovely views of Denali and dinner. ||Our tip would be to stay elsewhere where you are...
Read moreI am very disappointed with how Susitna Lodge managed a reservation for a person with disabilities. I called to reserve a room in mid-August 2017 and there was availability in the main lodge. When I disclosed that I'm blind and have a seeing-eye dog the Lodge refused to go ahead with the reservation stating that pets are not allowed. I explained that my seeing-eye dog is not a pet but a trained service dog and the response I received from the lady handling reservations was that they will not let me stay there with the service dog and besides that, the room available has stairs so for a blind person it is not adequate. This shows a level of ignorance of the law and of what it means to be blind that is beyond reason. A blind person doesn't have mobility issues (I run, bike, downhill ski, XC ski, etc). I'm blind and I can walk and go up the stairs in case there's any confusion. Also, it is against the law to refuse lodging to a person on the grounds of having a service dog. I suggest the lodge management gets familiar with the Title II and Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Alaska State Statutes before they are respondents to a DOJ suit or private suit following this discrimination practice.
To end my review, when I explained the Lodge that refusing service because I have an seeing- eye dog was discriminating they replied that having me stay with my service dog would be discriminating against people with allergies. This...
Read moreThese little cabins are less than a mile outside historic little Talkeetna and right on the Susitna Riverbank. No joke when I say you could probably fish right off the bank here. We had a two week stay while working out some developing issues for our property here, and honestly with how clean these cabins are built it made us completely rethink our build. Amenities include a working kitchen (a hot plate rather than a stove which admittedly did take forever to cook anything on) that included dishes, a large electric skillet, microwave, crock pot, mini fridge, and sink with drying rack. The bathroom had a large lovely bathtub which is always nice at the end of a long day, and our cabin was a one story 2 bedroom. Again, it is super close to Talkeetna, and xlose to a Cubby's, so if you wanted to cook some of your own meals to save some money you can. Guest services and cleaning is on standby if you need anything, and bless them, the first night we were there we had to turn in a quilt because our baby had an upset tummy the night we got in and a diaper didnt save us, nor did the blanket he tossed away. I cannot reccomend them highly enough, because the cabins, location, and service made us feel so...
