K2 Aviation — Local services in Alaska

First, I called/worked with K2 multiple times within the year preceding our visit and Flightseeing. Each interaction was excellent. Easy confirmation or advice on best arranging our trip; great Q&A on photography tips, openess to discussing changes on flight selection, etc. All communications leading up to flight were helpful and eased all readiness for a great trip. Arrival was effective, efficient, friendly and found us easily readied and at plane on time. We had previously upgraded, and did the Grand Tour flight. Our pilot was Chad. The flight path, scenery and comfort of the flight was excellent. Chad was a very experienced Flightseeing pilot; gave great pointers and narration and otherwise was a joy to lead our trip. He was especially fun and helpful during our glacier landing. Which BTW… was jaw dropping. Even my wife who was previously cautious about walking on a glacier…came away stunned/so happy she did it; and had so much fun with Chad and the others while we shared those special moments. Also FWIW, I was originally well informed about the differences/value of the Grand Tour, but chose a shorter flight. I later had opportunity to upgrade the flight. I can’t compare, but want to stress that the longer flight path around the entire Mt Denali and the shockingly beautiful proximity to the Wickersham Wall was wonderful. Our main take away was flightseeing Denali and other peaks in the immediate Central Alaskan range was even more beautiful and memorable than we had ever hoped. Related, our entire time with K2 (Internet; phone; in person) and every person we encountered there were everything we could hope for, and exceeded our desires not just expectations. Visiting Alaska is a special event and K2 Aviation offers one of the most stunning and singular excursions out there- Flightseeing Denali. K2 flies out of Talkeetna which is about 2 hours from Anchorage. There is a beautiful lodge in Talkeetna if you choose to stay in town. K2 offers different lengths of flights with or without a glacier landing. We chose to fly all the way around the mountain to see the back ice wall and land on the glacier and were fortunate to have clear, stunning weather. The weather on the largest mountain in the world-Mount Everest is taller sea level to top, but Denali is taller from the base of mountain to the top-is unpredictable. K2 flies beautiful Dehavilland Otter planes (as of 2023, there were only 208 of these beautiful planes remaining in service) that are outfitted with state of the art weather and landing gear. The pilots do an excellent job explaining the plane and the safety features prior to take-off. Each plane holds about 10 passengers and, sometimes, the pilot will let one ride in the cockpit. Every seat has a window and there is not a bad seat on the plane. If there is a feature on the left side, the pilot will swing around for the right side to take photos. We were in luck and flew on a day with clear beautiful weather, because of this we were able to land on a glacier and get some amazing photos.
