I got stuck in Houston for a night due to bad storms that causes the second leg/flight of my trip to get cancelled. I stay at IHG often and picked this location because it was near the airport and offered a shuttle service. I would NEVER stay here again and have concerns regarding IHG if this is level of service is acceptable to you all.
My biggest concern is that the room I was given already had people in it. I got my key and went up to the room and I heard laughing inside. Naturally, I didn't go inside, and went back down to the desk. The young man said basically "no, that's your room" and he re-keyed my card and walked back up with me. Instead of checking the room, which I thought was way more appropriate, he stepped back to "allow" me. I listened at the door and told him I promised I had heard people, even though it was quiet now. I went inside and yep, two men were in there. They all began speaking Spanish -- while I will say I'm pretty sure it was a misunderstanding (I believe the clerk asked them if they had extended, to which they replied yes), I think it's very concerning that a staff member would 1) try and give me a room that your hotel didn't know was occupied and 2) let a young female solo traveler walk into a room that had multiple men. What if this were a trafficking situation? Again, I think it was just an error -- but a very unsafe and concerning one. (You can see in the picture where he changed my room)
My other concerns: -When I initially called for a shuttle, I was told 20-30 minutes. After 40 minutes, I called back. I was told the driver had got held up. I asked if if I could have an updated ETA, but he didn't have one. It took about an hour. -Nobody was at the desk for at least 5 minutes when I got there. -There was a huge pile of dog poop in the hallway by the elevator. While I understand that staff cannot prevent dog owners from being irresponsible, you would think that they would clean it up promptly (rather than walk by it holding his nose, as the staff member did). -I scheduled my shuttle back to the airport when I checked in. I wasn't told to be down there 15 minutes early. I came down about 8 minutes early, which I felt was reasonable, and the morning staff member was rude. I asked where to wait for the shuttle and she basically chastised me for being "late." Meanwhile, the shuttle showed up late, and then the guy went inside to get coffee before we left. Which is fine, I like coffee too, but don't treat me poorly for something your own staff forgot to tell me when your shuttle driver isn't even on time.
Overall, very disappointing stay. Absolutely do not recommend...
Read moreI don't know if there is a hotel out there that doesn't employ thieves. My room was hit for my wedding band and an amethyst ring out of my shower bag. My hit was that my shower bag had been tossed! Normally you place tall items upright and arrange everything else to fit neatly so that you can see it. My bag is clear. Everything was just thrown around in the bag! She didn't care that she did this, no one was going to fire her for stealing, it is okay at this hotel. The micromanaging GM, Donald Thorsen is making it okay for them to steal by saying that theft has never happened at his hotel. There was no "I'm so sorry this has happened without taking responsibility," nope! He blamed it on the other Staybridge Suites off the beltway that stole most of my jewelry and my gun from my room! Yes, that is why I moved to this den of thieves. I thought that I would escape the thieves. The GM at that hotel never called me back after being told that a non-staff member knew about my property! She said that she would investigate and get back to me. Never happened! Still waiting for that call Ashley! I should have told my insurance company to move me to another hotel chain!
Donald has minions informing him of violations, it is a coincidence that they are all Hispanic, no offense family. He told him that breakfast was over. Donald started telling the servers to start pulling the food at 9 am. The breakfast ends at 9:30!! am. He saw me looking at the sign with my phone and said to leave everything. He was having them close down at 9 am since my arrival. This woman putting the food out cannot cook. She put raw/partially cooked bacon! Yikes!! This morning I witnessed the Donald Thorsen telling a woman with a service animal that she has to leave the breakfast room with her dog, it isn't allowed. She spoke to him about ADA policy and he argued with her. He looked and saw me watching and recording and then said that she should move away from the buffet area. On top of If you have jewelry or any expensive items, wear them each day, any excess items, take them with you! Hide them in the car or the safe. The safe in this hotel is locked, probably by the last resident. Upper management needs to rethink the GM's here, they need to be rechecked and maybe rotated somewhere else in a...
Read moreThe quality of the stay has gone down significantly over the past year. It seems this Hotel maximizes on government subsidy for immigrant housing.
The hallways have zero air-conditioning (one way to save money at the expense of the clientele) which allows the smell of funk and cooked food to permeate the halls outside the rooms.
When you walk into the hotel, there's a noticeable lack of air flow and HOT!
Upon entering the room, it was like stepping into a retro type hotel from 1980's. Ugly worn out and stained couch with nicked up cabinetry and end tables.
The rooms flooring had long frayed edges up and down the length of the trim piece from the kitchenet to the living area.
You can smell the sweet smell of black mold within the room when the a/c is on. My breathing changed within the hour.
The a/c did work good, so not all is lost.
The coffee maker was missing completely. I made the front desk aware of it, and for the entire day, noting was done. My second request was more successful.
The customer service is good, as long as you're a "happy" customer. Any type of dissatisfaction, is met with a retaliatory attitude and speech.
I checked out in the early evening, 12 days before my stay was complete, b/c of the condition of the hotel. I was met with, "You'll still have to pay for today! I wont check you out until tomorrow!".... He did not ask ONCE, the "why" to my early departure.
Even though my work place is under a mile from this hotel, I decided to drive another 20 minutes just to have a nice hotel experience.
There just doesn't seem to be a managerial standard or guidance of what it means to be an IHG facility. The standards I've experienced over the past few years with IHG have been far beyond what this hotel represented. But this hotel is not even close to what IHG is known for. Cleanliness is supposed to be a top priority, this hotel does not hold to that standard.
They can be assured, I will not be staying...
