Kona Inn Motel Anaheim — Hotel in Anaheim

I don't write reviews. This was such a terribly bad experience that I thought it was important to comment. I am not being vindictive. The management is trying to take advantage of travelers. The management demands an unauthorized $50 "as a deposit" that they knowingly do not tell guest about at any time before or after the booking process, online or over the phone. They will not provide the key unless they extract this from unsuspecting guests. They often send people to an ATM machine on property that they admitted charges an outrageous fee to get get cash from and then they collect some of those fees. The room had a repulsive odor perhaps because the A/C unit filters have never been changed and the unit is decades old but it smelled like old animal urine. The floor was so dirty that there were balls of someone's hair and my socks and feet turned black (I took pictures of all of this). When I informed management via email they did nothing the 1st time - indicating this is a common occurrence. Only after demanding a better cleaning from the front desk was this cleaned. ||There was no remote in the room. People smoke marijuana on the stairs a few feet from the window so opening a window stinks.||This hotel charged my room on 2 different cards and refused to refund the difference. Against my specific directions they charged additional amounts on one card such that it overdrew my checking account. The management promised things and then did the exact opposite assuming a guest would not follow up. The front desk attendant feigns little understanding of what one says, but he understands every word and conspires with the manager over the phone in Hinde and assumes customers have no idea what they are saying. From the management/owner down to the staff this is a motel to avoid at all cost. The "residents" of the hotel were likely running some type of prostitution out of the rooms and neighborhood people would wonder on to the property on skateboards to...

DO NOT STAY HERE. I would give 0 stars if I could. It's disgusting, dangerous area, and the employees are horribly rude and condescending AND they flat out lied to the hotel manager when asked about the issues we'd had. They put us in a smoking room when we requested non smoking, we have been going through hell with them trying to get a refund after the situation. We ended up going to a different hotel because the room stank so horribly. We asked to be switched to a non smoking room, the woman at the front desk yelled and shook her finger at me telling me that WE had done something wrong. She wouldn't even let me get a word in. Worst experience ever. I am now going through a huge headache trying to get my money back for a reservation we didn't even stay at, AND all our clothing and luggage is ruined from the strong stench in the room. Cannot get it out. There is a place about 10 minutes away that is similar in price but incomparably better. Look for besthost inn, they are similar priced but SO much butter. There is some construction going on, but staff was SO accommodating, room was nice and clean and smelled clean, area felt...

This motel was clean and surprisingly well decorated and modernized in the rooms. The price was the cheapest in the area. The neighborhood felt safe enough and the parking lot was enclosed and very well lit. One thing that made me uncomfortable was that I was asked for a $10 cash deposit for my room key. When I received my room key it had a sticker on it with my room number. It's my understanding that the room number should not be on the key for security purposes.

Also, the room only had three pillows on the bed and one blanket. The beds were comfortable and the linens soft. I stopped in the lobby to ask for another pillow and an extra blanket around 8:30pm. The manager was very grumpy about my request, insisting that he couldn't get to the linens because the house keeper was gone for the day. He stomped off to the back and came back with a pillow. He thrust it into my hands while commenting that I was lucky he had found this one and I should take it gratefully even though it didn't have a pillow case.
