Overall, the experience was not great. There are plenty of things this hotel does great with, but they were greatly overshadowed (for me, at least) by the things I didn't enjoy. It is very fancy, and staff was mostly friendly, however there were plenty of issues. 1. Yes, this hotel is very fancy and semi-close to downtown, but it was not worth DOUBLE the price of other hotels close by. 2. Considering it was DOUBLE the price of nearby hotels, I was amazed that breakfast was not included. It was so highly-priced I decided to skip it altogether. 3. This is the only hotel in Auburn that charges you to park your car. They offer a valet for 3x the cost to park your own car, but what they don't mention until you elect to save yourself some money is that the "self-park" lot is around the block. By the time I parked and walked back to the building, then weaved through to the only elevators (right by the front door) I easily had walked nearly half a mile. It was crazy. 4. It happened to be unexpectedly raining the night I stayed, and they didn't have any loaner/rental umbrellas for guests, and also didn't offer any type of shuttle service. Not the end of the world, but again for the price I paid I expected more. 5. Finally, once I got to the room... the bed was very comfortable, and the shower was very fancy and spacious. However, I had two major complaints. The windows had thick blackout curtains, however they were on a pull track and didn't even cover half of the window! Why have them if I can't close them?? Second, there was nothing on the bottom of the door to seal it off, so all night long there is bright lights from the hallway, I can easily hear people walking by, conversations sound like they are right there in the room with me, and I was 6-7 rooms away from the elevator but could still hear it DING every single time, all night long. It woke my up several times and was very annoying. I can't imagine how much worse it might have been for someone closer! Overall - very disappointed and most-likely will not...
Read moreThe hotel is a great location and the staff seem very friendly. Everyone was extremely pleasant and helpful. I loved the idea of being able to park at the location and walking to the campus.
There are a few down sides that we experienced recently.
We ordered room service, ordering one fettuccini alfredo and one drink. The total came to an astonishing $46. This included a gratuity, service fee and tax. When ordering it also requested a tip, which I thought is a "gratuity". Besides the food being too expensive, the food was poor tasting unfortunately; being chewy. It's possible it was an, "off-night."
When we checked in, they gave us two meal coupons for breakfast even though we had reserved the room for three. We were surprised to see a full restaurant for breakfast and since we were attending CWE, we didn't have time for a sit down meal. I recommend the hotel offer a free, continental breakfast as an alternative to receiving the coupons, for the travelers that need to eat on the go. Needless to say both coupons were never used and luckily CWE offered breakfast.
The room was a typical hotel room so I'm not sure that paying more to stay on floor 6, "the executive level," would be worth it. There is a pantry with some goodies and drinks for free on the 6th floor that was nice, but again not worth the extra price.
My biggest concern with the hotel is, that being associated with the University (which in itself is not an inexpensive learning institution), charges more when it knows there are events at Auburn. That in itself is not unheard of however, the extent of the increase in rooms (2.5 times higher), would almost be considered price gouging in my humble opinion. I may stay there again when rates are more reasonable like during CWE however, I would not pay the extortionate rates at their designated "peak" times like...
Read moreI did not want to ever leave!!!! My husband is a RN in West Alabama (COVID duty) and I am Active duty Army in South Carolina. He surprised me with a weekend getaway just a few hours drive for each of us in Auburn, Alabama. The hotel sits right across from the University in a great location. Not only did he book a hotel room, but he reserved an Executive Suite on the all suite floor. Great security for all because the elevator only recognizes the key card for the floor you are actually staying on. There is a bit of construction going on outside, but it did not disturb us at all. The room was magnificent at just over 700 sq feet. It had 1 1/2 baths, a separate bedroom, and a huge pull out bed in the living area for those with a larger party. The view from the 6th floor was awesome with windows on every side of our corner room. We went downstairs for a nightcap in the hotel bar, which shares space with their version of a small intimate jazz club. The bar was a touch loud for us, so we were allowed the freedom to sit in the jazz club and were the only ones there. Ahhh, bliss! They had jazz quietly playing and it was the perfect place for quiet conversation. The next morning we enjoyed a great breakfast, included in our plan, and had one of the best waiters I have ever had. Marco was Awesome! Highly recommend this place if you ever find yourself...
