The photos may look appealing, but they’re incredibly misleading. This property is completely isolated in the middle of nowhere with no walkable areas, stores, or restaurants nearby. Once you're there, you're essentially stuck. There’s no reliable transportation available except for a single, poorly maintained "shuttle" that runs on its own inconsistent schedule. Calling it a “shuttle service” is generous at best. The entire experience felt unsafe from the start. The grounds and buildings are poorly lit, and there was a constant smell of cigarette smoke throughout the property, both inside and out. Several intoxicated individuals were loitering near entrances and outside common areas, some of whom stared in a way that made us feel extremely uncomfortable. Cleanliness was another major issue. The room was dirty stained linens, dusty surfaces, and a bathroom that looked like it hadn’t been cleaned properly in a while and has a bad odor. The communal areas weren’t any better. Trash cans were overflowing, and the overall maintenance of the property was clearly neglected. As for amenities, they were practically nonexistent or not functioning as advertised. Customer service was also unhelpful, rude and inattentive. Staff seemed overwhelmed or simply indifferent, and any requests were either delayed or ignored completely. This feels worse that staying in a $25 motel. They don't even offer you a bottle of water. I rarely leave reviews, but this experience was bad enough that I felt compelled to warn others. If you’re looking for comfort, cleanliness, safety, or basic hospitality this is not the place for you.

Ehhh, they are trying. So post pandemic I try to be understanding of the new climate. The front desk staff lady was really nice, they let us store our bags before check in and said they would call us if a room opened early, but sadly no one called, not sure if the cleaning staff is overwhelmed or what but she was super nice about trying. We didn’t check in until like 5 but im assuming we could’ve gone back at 4 but we had to trek up the mountain and our rooms we ready by then. However not sure if this is Priceline’s error or Catalina canyon, but you absolutely need to tell people you have a courtesy shuttle from the base of the mountain. The uphill climb to get to the hotel and steep use with golf carts is dangerous. The shuttle guy was super nice and helped us back down the mountain upon departure but sheesh, uphill in 100 degree heat. There’s no way the average person knows to call for a shuttle. With all this being said, it is only a 15 min walk uphill, so if you’re fit and the heat doesn’t bother you, you’re fine. The shower pressure, very good, comfortable room, fluffy pillows. The negatives were my nightstand light didn’t work at all and the ac was super loud and we rolly bugs crawling in from under the front door. Bunk bed was nice touch in the family room and the grounds are peaceful and quiet and keurig coffee comes standard in the room. Modern room and updated bathroom, shower only no soaking tub. We didn’t get to try the amenities or on site restaurant due to time restraints on our end. I would recommend but GET THE SHUTTLE.

We visited Catalina Island under the impression that it was very pet friendly. It is not pet friendly at all! When we checked in to this hotel, there were two ladies behind the counter and they were not very pleasant. The hotel is old and run down. Paid for two rooms for two nights, it was almost $2000, Expedia charged $1850 to be exact and at the time of my reservation they stated this place was welcoming to pets. Upon check in I was told I had to pay an extra $75 per dog and that they were not allowed anywhere in the hotel besides our room, they were not to be left in the room, and they were not welcome at poolside. I don’t understand how this can be a pet friendly hotel. Regardless, we took our boat from San Diego over to Catalina hoping to have a good birthday weekend! To our surprise! We were stopped by the pet police on the main road, telling us that we needed to carry our dogs three blocks either direction and that they were “only allowed” on the side streets. We were appalled!!! Many people have told us that Catalina Island is pet friendly, I am here to tell you it is a lie! We were very disappointed and wish we would have never gone! Catalina is not what it used to be and definitely Not worth a trip! It is Very commercialized, tons of people most unfriendly place, and you can’t even lay on the beach because there is no room. Take your money elsewhere and enjoy your time! P.S. the only positive thing I can say about this hotel is that the shuttle driver was very friendly!

Recently renovated, but sort of only halfway. For example, the bathroom obviously had new tile surround, but the shower floor tiles were old and looked dirty. The shower head, though! I am 5’3 and had to bend down to fit under it. My spouse is tall, so forget about it. It would make sense for them to provide shower benches so you could sit under the shower head. Strange that when they replaced the surround, they didn’t just raise the shower head.|New plantation shutters, but didn’t match any of the other decor. I say this only so that you’ll know that this is not at all a luxury hotel, but they’re clearly trying to upgrade it, but they’re missing the mark.|Room was fine. Our sheets had light stains but, frankly, so long as they are washed, we didn’t mind. Bleach and over washing is so bad for the environment, but I can see that the stains might be a turn off to some. My bath towel was more holes than towel, and had a small blood stain. I called the desk for a new towel and they were very embarrassed and had someone bring us new towels immediately. |The room was made up ok, but not as clean as I prefer. There was an old bottled water behind the nightstand and a vape pen cover on the floor by our bed and used Kleenex under the chair.|The closet is interesting. Only one side has a hanging rod. The other side just has a mural on the wall and a bench that we put our suitcase on. Wish they had a clothes rod above that bench since there are no dressers in the room for clothing.|Our balcony was nice…looked out onto some beautiful trees. Small bistro table and two comfortable chairs for your morning coffee. There is a keurig in the room, as well as small fridge and microwave. A bit noisy because there are patio tables below where people gather and there was a group of very happy women talking very loudly for hours on end when we first arrived. But, all in all, our room was fine. Nothing fancy, but perfectly adequate. |The pool could definitely be a little cleaner. The water is very cloudy. Very cloudy. But it is heated VERY WELL and we loved watching our teens enjoy that. It’s also in a great spot on the property that gets full sun all day and is a nice place to sit and relax. Why they don’t have a hot tub for cool nights, I have no idea.|The on-site restaurant serves very basic food, burgers and not great tacos. The salads are iceberg lettuce.|But we found that most of Avalon had terrible food so this didn’t surprise us. We were prepared. |We liked the location of this hotel high up on a hill away from the noise and crowds of the main part of Avalon. |Though the hotel wasn’t spectacular, the staff was the friendliest and kindest I’ve ever experienced. That goes a long way.|There is a free shuttle coming and going all the time to get you to most places.|All in all, so long as you aren’t expecting a fancy hotel, you could be...

My two adult sons and I enjoyed our stay at the Catalina Canyon Inn. We booked a room with a queen bed and one set of bunk beds which worked perfectly for us. The room was very spacious. It was bright, airy and clean. The large bathroom had a pedestal sink, toilet, shower stall and towels provided for four. In the shower stall, there were liquid bath products, and solid hand soap at the sink. Interestingly, there were plugs and internet connections on either side of the queen bed which was convenient. The room had a TV, counter with fridge, microwave and Keurig. There weren't any closets, but a nook had a piece of furniture with drawers/shelves and a hanging rod for clothes. There was plenty of space for our luggage.||Our room was in a stand alone building that looked out at the pool, the dining building and lots of beautiful plants/trees. We had chairs and a table outside our room to relax in. There was an ice machine around the corner from our room. There were circular loungers around the grounds. The grounds are hilly. There is the main building and then a few standalone buildings with rooms. You must walk up/down ramps or stairs to reach everything. This didn't prove strenuous, but worthy of note||The restaurant was just opening for the season (first weekend in May) and offered breakfast only. Some of the items we ordered were pancakes, over easy eggs and sausage from the kids menu ($10), the English muffin sandwich ( $10 egg, American cheese, bacon and side of potatoes) and the pancake stack ($7 for three). Prices were reasonable and food was tasty.||We didn't have time to swim, but the pool water was warm enough to be comfortable. There were pool towels poolside for swimmers. Near the pool and dining room was a ping pong table. The fitness room was also near the pool. It was small with one treadmill, one elliptical and one seated bicycle. There was also a bench, water and towels.||Transportation to/from this hotel is provided at no cost, and can be picked up at one of two stops - the ferry landing and the middle of town. It is very helpful, but the vehicles are two regular vans so maximum occupancy at one time is six guests. When everyone is checking out, you may have to wait to ride so allow enough time to get to where you are going. We chose to walk back to the ferry. It is about a ten minute walk, but it is on a hill - fine for walking down, more of a challenge with luggage upon arrival and not recommended. ||We had a great time at the Catalina Canyon Inn and would recommend it. (BTW, we booked through Expedia and got a...

They are a solid 3 stars. The restaurant by the pool was good, the waitress extremely friendly. The shuttle drivers extremely friendly. Landscaping and location is nice. The daytime front desk staff with blonde hair extremely friendly and loves dogs ! Pleasure to speak with her she is so up beat and nice. Night time front desk lady was very militant in policing the rules and I did not want to get in her way. Some staff stand out as exemplary and are overshadowed by aspects which this hotel lacks. For the price paid I expected “Hilton” standard cleaning. The bathroom had hair on the floor and shower floor and the bathroom vanity was clearly not wiped down, rusting inside shower, the shampoo conditioner body wash is a community bottle instead of dispenser and it just didn’t feel sanitary. I was careful where I set things down in the bathroom because it didn’t feel clean. When I went to bed I noted my sheets had visible blood stains and again a strand of hair that was not mine. They were very receptive to correcting this and making my bed again correctly. It just shouldn’t have happened in the first place. They also charge 75 for a pet and won’t let you leave pet alone which is understandable but I felt like I couldn’t enjoy the pool at all. It would be nice if a crate was offered for the dog especially since I’m paying a huge pet fee. I obviously can’t bring a crate on the ferry. The room itself is nice I like the ac fridge tv bed shower patio it looks good - but the cleanliness of the room did not meet standards or expectations especially for the cost of the room. It was cleaned quickly . The location is nice. I recommend getting a room away from the front office. I felt like I was policed a bit. My tv was loud for 30 seconds because I couldn’t figure out how to turn the volume down and the remote wasn’t working and I couldn’t turn the tv off fast enough before they tried policing me about it . Too much policing when I came here to relax. Overall clean the room to a higher standard and appreciate the staff who is exemplary and encourage other staff to enjoy the work. Don’t over work staff and show staff you appreciate them and pay them well. Good location, and room is nice, balcony is nice. Some of the surrounding neighborhood had some residential dogs that were aggressive. I was able to see a deer and cool wildlife I enjoyed my stay , I really did enjoy the location. It needed to be cleaner for what I paid. Pet fee was a lot of money I want to see more value from the pet fee like offering...
