First, I’d suggest the advertising is misleading, as it shows a picture of the hotel in such a position that it appears the hotel is facing Crescent Ave, which is parallel to the ocean. Even though the hotel & address is listed 118 Sumner Ave & does not face the beach. However, it’s just a stone’s throw away. ||||The lobby is dark & a bit dingy looking, however, Christian who was at the lobby desk was very courteous, professional & accommodating. We arrived early & could leave our luggage in a room just next to the front desk, which we were told had surveillance cameras for security. ||||Our room was ready in less than an hour.||||The first room we were issued was literally over a roof with a less than desirable view & smaller than the picture on the website. I asked for another room & was promptly given a much better room. It was larger, better appointed, with a view facing Sumner Ave, but we could see the greenery, mountains & lights. ||||The hotel location is very convenient, right in the middle of everyplace we visited & needed. ||||The downside…there is a Bar just past the hotel, 2 doors away & loud music, loud talking, yelling, screaming kept me awake. (Despite the double paned windows) ||I eventually fell asleep; only to be awakened again at approximately 2AM. There were also autos playing loud music going up & down the street…with booming subwoofers…fully intact! ||||Called the front desk, no answer, so I looked up & called the Catalina Police Station, which happened to be diagonally across the street from this Bar! I don’t know how they didn’t hear all of the racket. At any rate, an officer walked over to the Bar & shut it down. ||||Upon checking out we again left our luggage, as the Catalina Express departure was 3 hours later. (I told Christian about the noise, etc.)||||Came back to get luggage & Christian told us we were very nice guests. That was nice to hear. ||||Would we stay here again? Only if that Bar is gone or the room was way at the opposite side...

Read moreWe stayed three nights and overall it was a very poor experience. ||The good: The beds were clean and it included a one-way pick up from the ferry terminal to the hotel. ||The bad: Before we even checked, I contacted the hotel bu both email and phone (left a message) because I had some questions. No one contacted me back. I should have take. This as a sign. The smoke detector was removed from the wall (we later found it at the bottom of a drawer). When we checked in the person at the front desk barely spoke. We never saw someone at the front desk for the rest of our three night stay. We needed to use the phone at front desk to call. The two times I used the phone, the person who answered was extremely rude. At one point, the bathroom door was locked and we could not get in. I called to see if some one could come and unlock it. When they finally came after the two calls and 5 hours, we were explained (and told it was our fault) that it was an outdoor style lock and they did not have the key so the lock would need to be removed. We stayed here, hoping to have housekeeping. We were told that due to LA county restrictions, they were not allowed. Which is not true, that restriction was lifted nearly 6 months ago and housekeeping is allowed as long as guests are not in the room. The kitchen was very limited (there was an incomplete set plates and pans but no wine opener, grater, measuring cups, etc to cook). All the doors including the glass sliding doors, all opened to common spaces. There was MOLD in the bathroom. Worst of all, other than the beds being clean, it was dirty and falling apart. Half the light switches did not work. The heating did not work. It smelled. Paint was bubbling from the walls. ||Bottom line: unclean, rude...
