I was in town for the weekend visiting someone who lived there. I had made a reservation online and noted that if you arrived after 11PM to call a phone number. It appears the owners live on site. I was there at 7PM, but the place looked closed. There was a lit up open sign in the window and I found the button to ring for after hours. They have a night window to the left of the front door and a woman soon showed up at the window. || ||They couldn't find my reservation. I don't think they are very computer savvy. But I was able to get a room and for cheaper than what I had initially been quoted. Yay! Not surprising I got a room as it looked like only one or two other people were staying there. I'm guessing July is not a busy time for them and it appears they are renovating rooms in other buildings on the property. ||||My room appears to be newly painted. The room was incredibly hot but eventually cooled down as the AC worked well. The desk was by the front window which was on the opposite side of the room as the tv so I have my back to the tv when working on the computer. Kinda weird. The tv was close to the bed though. It’s kind of clean. Like I mentioned, there was new paint, but the place is still old. The bathroom had just a shower and no tub. The towels were ok, but the bath mat was stained. The hand soap was weird and they had a shampoo dispenser which I did not use. I had my own extra.on hand. ||||Took about an hour to figure out how to turn on the tv. I found that the plug is extremely touchy. They've got the fridge and microwave plugged into the same adapter and I found that the adapter needs to be in just the right spot for all three to work. I let the AC run all night to help drown out traffic noise as there’s a lot of loud vehicles on this highway.||||I had to go back to the night window and ask for the wifi password. The wifi wasn't very fast but I didn't have trouble with it repeatedly kicking me off like other places. There is a grocery store next door and the neighborhood seemed safe. Could park right in front of my door which was nice. They don't have do not disturb signs. Seems like they normally have someone service the room every day but she wasn't there that weekend. No problem. I didn't need anything. Upon checking out I just left the key in the drop box. Overall it was good and I would...
Read moreFor obvious reasons, nobody would normally travel to a place like Avon Park, Florida unless they live there. We stayed here for access to the Sebring Raceway. It's a very basic facility. You have a place to sleep and very little else.||I reached at about 9.15 PM at night. There is a sign on the lawn but it's not very noticeable and in the dark it does not look like an inn. I drove around it twice before figuring out where to get into the parking lot. For some reason they always have two large vehicles parked (staff's?) exactly where you would imagine the entrance to be.||Anyway, place looked abandoned and it wasn't obvious where the reception was. The door was locked but there was a bell to push and eventually a sleepy lady checked me in and gave me the key to my room.||Parking was sufficient. In fact, you could park right outside the door to your room.||The room was large enough and the beds were comfortable.||The housekeeping was efficient and happened quite early in the morning.||The soap provided was rather sad. The towels and shampoo were okay.||The Wi-Fi was abominable. You know the kind of Wi-Fi which is worse than nothing because it keeps tantalizing you by occasionally unexpectedly loading part of a web page and then expiring? That was it.||There was a full-size fridge and a microwave which might quite possibly be of interest to historians looking for ancient artefacts. The fridge worked. The microwave did not. Perhaps it was a form of abstract art.||The air conditioner was a wall unit. It worked but made sounds like a motorbike. Nice, if you like motorbike sounds.||The picture quality of the TV was abysmal. Not sure if the problem was with the TV or with the signal but we weren't there to watch TV anyway.||The location is good in many ways. There are grocery stores and fast food places within easy walking distance. It's about a 25 minutes drive to the Raceway. Make sure you rent a car. There is no public transport.||Checkout consisted of merely handing over the key at...
Read moreWe stayed at the Oak Tree Inn to escape Hurricane Dorian. We were more concerned with what was happening with our home and places of employment on the east coast of Florida to pay much attention to the hotel initially.|But after getting unpacked, and the two cats settled in (pet friendly hotel), we started to really notice the hotel itself. |It is an older, single story hotel with really large rooms. Parking is at your room door...very convenient.|The exterior was freshly painted, new metal roof, and extremely clean and well maintained. No mold/mildew anywhere (which is hard to do in Florida)...not even any spider webs!|The interior of our large room was just as well maintained and clean...fresh paint, nice carpet and furniture. Beds were very comfortable. Bathroom was extremely clean with a large walk-in shower. Air conditioning worked great, and the TV and refrigerator worked just fine. |The lady at the reception desk at both check in and check out was very nice and pleasant.|For this price, I have nothing but GOOD things to recommend about this clean, well...
