Somehow we have never been to Yama. We are so glad to have finally gone. We went on a Friday evening and had a short 10-15 minute wait for a table. Once we were seated, everything was great. Our server was super nice, quick and great at helping with menu questions. The offered a nice small cucumber salad as a starter, then we ordered two appetizers. The Peppered Tuna was insanely good! Peppery and spicy, a perfect bite. Even the asparagus underneath was great. We also ordered the Shumai, delicious tiny pork dumplings, also quite good. For dinner, we ordered a few standard rolls and a few specialty rolls. The spicy tuna and spicy salmon were both very good. We ordered the Ocean roll, Supreme Roll, Green Dragon and the Bumblebee. Wow, they were all so good, perhaps the least impressive was the Green Dragon, not bad, just kinda bland. The other three were so good and impressed all 3 of us. We felt "not too full" after dinner so decided to sample a couple of the desserts. We got the fried cheesecake, it was ok, the cheesecake was good, the crust was not as good. We also got strawberry mochi and they were so tasty and the chewy coating was fun. Recommend. We look forward to coming back to Yama soon!
My complaint to the owners of this restaurant is this: In 2024 to not have refills on soda is ridiculous. Everyone knows that soda is super cheap. Your $1.50 is a good price, but charge $2 and allow...
Read moreI love their sushi & the prices as well as the small intimate feeling of Yama sushi. But I will say this is the second time I've went there and dined in to only be treated as if I wasn't there. No everything isn't about race but I was the only black customer there and they walked past me with customers who weren't black seated them and immediately took their orders for drinks and food. Then another customer who wasn't black came in sat directly across from me. By this time I'm pulling a waiter aside and asking for my drink, soup, and salad! She's looking as if she's not seeing where my attitude is coming from. I'm then served my water, salad,& soup some time passes and then I watch the customer across from me give his order & it's way after I've give mine. But he gets his food first so again I pull a waiter to the side and she's looking stupid. By then I see another waiter walk pass me with food to serve a table of ppl whom I was there before to only then walk back to me and give me my food! That's rude and I won't be going back that's the second time I've sat in there while the clientele was prodomitley white and I've been put on the back burner as if I didn't order and I've watched them serve them as if they had been there before me. It's sad because I love the sushi & prices and so does my family & friends. But I'll take my $ and love for...
Read moreVery good sushi at a very reasonable price, and some of the best COVID precautions I have seen from any restaurant! I highly recommend the spicy tuna roll.
Yama has always been one of my favorite date spots. The restaurant has a quiet, peaceful atmosphere; a beautiful mural adorns the main wall. The quality of food and service has had its ups and downs over the years, but since 2019, both have consistently been excellent. The rolls are delicious and appropriately sized, and the non-sushi items (e.g. miso soup, tempura bowl, etc.) are very nicely done as well, but it's the small details really set this restaurant apart, for example removing the shell from the tail segment of shrimp for shrimp tempura.
In 2020, with the main dining room closed due to the pandemic, a side door has been converted into an order pickup window with a drawer to pass items across. Just call ahead to order....
