Most hotels will tell you that check in time is 3:00 pm. That is a given. However, most hotels will try to accommodate you if you arrive early. We arrived just before noon on June 29,2013. We were staying 2 nights. The host told us that our room was not ready and that we should come back in an hour. I asked if there were other rooms that were cleaned that we could take. The answer was no. That is fair. We decided that we would go to lunch and do a little shopping before returning to check in. We returned @2:45 and were told the same as before. The room was not cleaned yet. I was surprised as I figured he would have made arrangements since he told us it would be ready in an hour. I asked again if we could be switched to another room. The answer again was no. That is not fair. He said our room would be ready by 3:00. We waited in the lobby and took up a conversation with a trucker that had just finished a long run and needed to get to bed. He said he had been waiting in the lobby for almost 2 hours. Just prior to 3:00 our host came over with our room card key to the third floor. We proceeded to the room and put our card key in the slot and opened the door. The room was a mess. It had not been cleaned. We spoke with the maid cleaning the room next to us and she called the front desk to inform them of the problem and let them know she didn't know who was to clean that room. Through her they asked us to return to the lobby and gave us a new room on the second floor. The first thing we saw when we entered was their guarantee that if we weren't totally satisfied we would not have to pay. Chicken or egg. We were now satisfied after a not too pleasant experience. Don't get me wrong. The hotel is beautiful and clean and quiet. However, the front desk personal need better customer training. Later that day we decided to eat in the restaurant. The waitress said they have a special meal today of full bodied clams. One of my favorites. I ordered them. Well, they were cooked beyond recognition and were extremely small. I did not complain. I ordered their onion rings with parmesan cheese. Well these were burnt and black. Now they had gone too far. The manager came over and apologized and took the clams and the onion rings off the bill. My wife had a great bowl of soup and a great salad. We would go there again, but would not eat there. It is a shame that this clean, beautiful hotel has to be downgraded by the lack of training the staff has with dealing with the public. We travel quite a bit and are familiar with the way guests are normally treated. Kindness and understanding go a long way in resolving problems.. My way or the highway attitude is not what any paying traveller needs...
Read moreMy husband and I decided to have our winter wedding reception at the Hilton Garden Inn in Bangor in January 2022 and everything worked out perfectly. We met with Allison (event coordinator) early on in the planning process and she helped us with every detail along the way. She was very organized and responsive via e-mail which was very much appreciated given our busy work schedules. She also had some great tips and recommendations along the way. Allison met with us in person a few times and also set up a meal tasting. All the food we tried was great. We chose the high-end package for our event which was very reasonably priced compared to other local venues and included everything we needed for our wedding reception including food, linens, tables/chairs, dance floor, bartenders/servers, set up/take down of the event and so much more. They were flexible on things like beverage and food offerings which we appreciated. Our guests were able to get a great discounted room rate for the weekend of our event and liked that they could mingle at the pub upon arrival the night before our wedding so that they didn’t have to worry about driving anywhere. They also enjoyed recapping the night at breakfast the next morning. The bridal/presidential suite was very clean and spacious and was perfect for getting ready on the day of the wedding. The hotel itself is very clean and modern. Allision and the entire event staff did a great job setting up for our reception and I couldn’t have asked for a better team to make my vision a reality. They really made things stress-free for myself, the bridal party and our families on the days leading up to the wedding and on the day of the event. I didn’t have to worry about anything. The bartenders/servers were great. So many of our guests have commented that the food was excellent that evening. We had the option to extend the event past the planned time as we were having a blast on the dance floor. Our guests really enjoyed that they could just head upstairs to bed at the end of the night. The hotel has a pool/spa that some of the guests used. Hot tub was not working on the first night but as soon as it was brought to the attention of the staff, the issue was addressed and it was working the next morning. My husband and I are very happy with how the whole process went from start to finish. Our wedding reception was a blast and stress-free for everyone. The best part is that it was reasonably priced and the package we purchased included literally everything we needed! I would undoubtedly consider working with Allison and the staff at the Hilton Garden Inn in Bangor for any of my future event planning needs.

Read moreWe spent four fabulous days and three comfortable nights at this Hilton Garden Inn, and it’s been fantastic.
It was our first trip after the Covid hiatus and our first visit to Maine, and we have only good experiences to recount.
Hospitality par excellence, at this Hilton Garden Inn location. Upon our latish check in we were greeted by the lovely Laurie and their awesome manager Mara. All staff here are warm, welcoming and super helpful.
We had chosen to visit Bangor on a bit of a whim, and knew of no particular reason it was famous for. On researching there was Stephen Kings’s house, which’s it turned out was his private residence, and out of respect for that, it was off our Itinerary. That Arcadia National Park, about an hour’s drive was the most enticing. With that information, we made the Park our primary destination, expecting it would unfold with pleasant surprises, as all previous visits to State and National Parks have only left us wanting for more.
Breakfast at this location/ Hotel is fantastic, not just the food, which comes out hot as it is cooked as soon as the quantity in the service trays starts to reduce. At the same time, you never have to wait for the food, it’s constantly refilled freshly off the over/ fryer/ pan. The kitchen and service staff are attentive and cheerful, a perfect start to your morning. Special shout out to Brandi, Morgan and Frenchie and in the kitchens, Sarah and the gentlemen chefs for keeping us well fed.
Brandi is a huge resource of local tourist spots, and Morgan as well. They suggested Acadia and Cadillac mountain, and Fort Knox, both of which are worth a visit. At the Fort, you also have access to the Penobscot Narrows Bridge, with its fantastic observatory, and the lookout on the bridge with it’s 360 degree views will take tour breath away.
Great dining all around the local areas, though at Bay Harbor we did not choose well and sometimes reviews can be misleading. It is very touristy, still worth the visit. We spent two hours walking up and down. Definitely picturesque, Bar Harbor is at the edge of Acadia National Park. Not exactly close to the Hotel, but it’s nice to know there’s a great place waiting for you to come back to- Hilton Garden Inn in Bangor. Bangor has some nice spots too and we walked the riverfront. Not bad for a first visit to Maine we think.
The rest of our vacation was spent mainly in Boston. However enroute to Boston, the drive has its own rewards - Plymouth, and Newport for lunch and shopping...
