I strongly recommend this hotel! My name is Angela, I am the breakfast attendant at the Bangor inn. For the low price you pay for a room, you also experience the genuine hospitality of this comfortable place. "Home away from home" customers call it. Have you ever been to a hotel that baked delicious homemade muffins from scratch? My recipes, and I do it every day because I love pleasing people and i love baking! My customers ask me " what kind of muffins today Angela? Then they wait for them fresh out of my oven. Gone faster then I can put them on the rack. Complement to me! I could make money off my baking! they are that good. Not to mention my homemade cookies. ;) I am grateful for any gratuity left to me. I work very hard and your show of appreciation means so much! My breakfast also includes fresh eggs to order, I cut lots of ham steaks and slow cook them with some sweet ingredients. Its tender and tasty. Soon we will have sausage in place of the ham. I also have baked beans, waffles, I cut fresh pineapple daily, bananas, lots of breads, bagels, fresh baked donuts, New England coffee, teas, oatmeal, yogurts, milk and cereal orange, apple, and cranberry juice. This massive complementary hotel breakfast Is done by me, I take pride in my work. You will not find another hotel with acomidations as these, not unless you break your wallet. ;) Let me tell you about our amazing crew of ladies that work there fingers to the bone keeping our rooms clean, comfortable, and cozy. They deserve every tip you leave! I would tip them well, anyone who works for tips understands. I hear daily about how clean and comfortable our rooms are. All rooms recently had a makeover. Amazing new mattresses, new beddings, new floors, and paint. Every front desk employee would do a head stand if it would help you out. Definitely there for YOU! The sweetness in there tone is genuine. They do the "brain" part of the job. And very amazing at it! We are all family here at the inn. We all work as a team. And who has a free shuttle with a driver that will keep you laughing till you arrive safely? Yes, few clowns for your entertainment! 1 year ago we were #19 out of 25 hotels in Bangor..We are proudly number 4! We sure earned it with dedication and hard work!! Way to go family! All of the good we do will bless us when we least expect it! :) keep it up! And folks, best place to stay in Bangor Maine? Read moreI was just here last weekend for an overnight stay as we were moving my daughter into UMaine nearby and I am back again this weekend to visit. Since I will be visiting regularly I had hoped to find my home away from home here at Bangor Inn. The motel is very dated but clean, the beds are comfortable enough, the showers are decent, it's conveniently located to both shopping and the university, and the price is fair.
However, when I arrived to check in there was a "Be right back" note taped to the front desk. I waited a good ten minutes for a single desk clerk who was continually interrupted/distracted by having to answer the phone and other guests. He apparently only booked me for a night stay when I asked for two. I discovered this when I arrived back to my room the second evening after a full day of activities, arms loaded with packages to find my door dead bolted. When I went to the front desk I was introduced to the manager who proceeded to scold me in anger/frustration because, "You were only booked for a night. We didn't know where you were or what you were doing." She was also quite obviously annoyed by my E.S.A. (a single hamster in a tiny travelers cage) being in the room and further scolded me for that. In her defense, they do have a no pet policy and I failed to mention my support pet mainly because in past experiences with other hotels I have been told that my little caged critter doesn't really count.
When I was finally allowed entrance back into my room I was shocked to discover that it had not been seen by housekeeping. The dirty towels I had piled neatly by the bath door were still wet on the floor. The beds were unmade and the trash was still full. Including the shrimp alfredo take out boxes I had left beside the trash can because there is no refrigeration in the room. Needless to say, the scent of the room had turned foul at that point and so has my opinion of this motel. I will be back to the area in another week or two but, I will be giving the Quality Inn across the street a shot at...
Read moreMy wife and I had a room with a single king sized bed during our stay. The bed was comfortable, the air conditioner in the room worked well, and I loved that the room came with a mini fridge. The complimentary breakfast was easily the best party of our stay - scrambled eggs, sausage, bagels or toast, yogurt, fruit, juice, cereal, etc. all included. Only areas I found that could use improvement : It was difficult to find enough outlets in the room. Because of the large bed, only one of us got a bedside table. Thankfully, I had a long charge cord, because the only outlet I could find was on the side wall, past the chair that sat alongside the bed. There was a multi plug adapter in the wall underneath the desk in the room, but I had to crawl under the desk to use it and found that the outlets there were too loose to hold a plug in place. The bathroom was small (toilet and bathtub only, sink was outside the door inside the main suite room). This was fine for my needs, but I was annoyed that I could not run the bath faucet - only the shower was usable. Our door stuck to the frame when trying to enter, which also was not a big deal after giving it a firm push (while turning the key, because the doors do not stay unlocked), but did give off an odd first impression to the room. Right inside the door was the little rack to hold luggage, but the entryway was not big enough to accommodate this without squeezing by and walking sideways with our bags. I moved the rack out of the way and it was much more comfortable moving in and out afterwards. All in all, I would definitely stay here again. The things I didn't like about the hotel were minor inconveniences at best and were far outweighed by the good features. It is definitely more of a place to sleep and recover than a place to spend a lot of your time in, though, so plan...
