When we arrived and walked into our room a little past the 3:00 check-in, there were dirty towels and a hair clip on the floor. When I told the manager, she replied that she had allowed someone to use our bathroom to freshen up (after it was cleaned)!! This happened during the pandemic when I would have hoped the rooms would have been sanitized. Everywhere we went during our weekend, shop owners, waiters and waitresses, and the staff for the hotel we ended up staying at had on masks....no employees at the Anchorage wore masks. When we walked into our room, it was beautiful....except for the beige rug that had more stains than I could count!! I wish I could post a picture of the rug. No one would believe it! Our room was the first one on the left as you entered the building. The noise from the party in the main lobby (steps from our room), the dining staff setting up for the party, and others coming in to register was unacceptable for a hotel. After a four hour drive, we wanted to take a nap before dinner. The air conditioner did not work. If the manager had bothered to turn it on before we arrived, she would have known. It was 90 degrees outside and the heat in the room was unbearable. We turned on the air conditioner and waited two hours. It never cooled down. The owner, Frank, was called. When I pointed out the stained rug, he commented about the price of upkeep of an old house!! I will have to say the young lady who was running the desk was delightful and tried her best to makeup for a very bad situation. She even got us registered at another hotel down the street in a quiet, clean room with air conditioning. Needless to say, the Anchorage put a damper to the start of our mini vacation and the owner had nothing...
Read moreMY WIFE AND I LIVE IN SAN DIEGO AND HAD THE PLEASURE OF STAYING AT THIS AMAZING HISTORIC PROPERTY. THE HOUSE IS AMZING AND STILL LEFT AS IT WAS IN THE 1700'S WITH ORIGINAL WOOD FLOORS, DETAILED ART WORK ON THE CELING, GRAND STAIR CASE, FOOD ELEVATOR W/ PULLY AND ORIGINAL BRICK / MARBLE FIRE PLACES. WHERE WE COME FROM THIS PROPERTY WOULD NOT BE A HOTEL, IT WOULD BE A MUSEUM, BEAUTIFUL. WE STAYED IN ROOM 202 AND WERE CELEBRATED OUR HONEYMOON. WHEN WE ARRIVED THE ROOM WAS READY, CLEAN, AND GORGEOUS. WE WERE WELCOMED WITH TOW GLASSES OF CHAMPAIGN, IN THE MAIN ROOM AND ALSO A BOTTLE IN OUR 202 ROOM. WE HAD AN AMAZING HOT TUB IN THE ROOM WITH 20 FOOT HIGH CELINGS AND BIG WINDOWS ALL AROUND WHICH LIT UP THE ENTIRE ROOM DURNG THE DAY. AT NIGHT WE WALKED 5 FEET FROM OUR ROOM AND HAD DINNER. THE CHEF LOCATED AT THIS PROPERTY IS MICHELIN STAR QUALITY AND IS A MUST IF YOU ARE STAYING HERE OR ANOTHER HOTEL. MAKE SURE TO BOOK A HEAD OF TIME. SMALL, PRIVATE DINNING EXPERIENCE WORTH EVERY PENNY. THE STAFF WAS AMAZING AND SO PERFESSIONAL. THE OWNERS WERE SEEN A LOT AND VERY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL, GREAT COUPLE! THE OTHER STAFF ALL MADE US FEEL LIKE FAMILY AND MADE THE STAY A 5 STAR EXPERIENCE. WE WILL BE BACK ONE DAY (HOPEFULLY SOONER THEN LATER) AND WILL KEEP COMING BACK. ALSO, THE LOCATION IS PERFECT AND ONLY 5 MIN FROM THE MAIN TOWN LOADED WITH FOOD, SHOPS AND SITE SEEING. VERY SAFE AREA AND VERY FRIENDLY LOCALS. GREAT PLACE TO VISIT AND SEE THE HISTORY OF WHERE AMERICA WAS STARTED, SURRVIVED THE CIVAL WAR AND CONTINUES TO BE JUST AS CHARMING.

Read moreWe stayed one night during the week and had a good/solid experience. We stayed in room 401 on the top floor and didn't encounter any of the noise issues others have written about. The ceilings on the 4th floor are low though - the other floors have much higher ceilings. The real selling point was the picturesque views of the bay. The 4th floor balcony was too hot during the day but we used the one on the 3rd floor and it was perfectly shaded with 2 large porch swings that were great for a midday nap. They bring you cold lemon water with delicous, freshly baked, chewy chocolate chips cookies each day. The honor bar on the 4th floor was a nice touch as well!
If you want to dine at the ribault social club, make reservations in advance as there are no special accommodations for inn guests.
The breakfast in the morning was the one disappointment during the stay. We ordered an omlet with mushrooms and sausage on the side that were the quality of cafeteria food. The omelet was watery and unseasoned, and the mushrooms were a rubbery consistency and tasteless. The sausage looked good but did not taste as good as it looked. The biscuit looked like something out of a grands roll tin and there was no gravy. The setting was gorgeous and there was outdoor seating though. They had an option for French toast instead of the omelet but we didn't try it - hopefully that was better.
Overall a good stay with friendly employees and a great location...
