NeverMore Books - Beaufort, SC — Local services in Beaufort

My son picked up a pop up book and a piece of the book fell out. We tell an associate and she takes the book to the back to which another man says “you’ve got to be kidding me.” I can understand frustration, but not only did my son not cause the damage, he also tried to let the shop know so they didn’t sell a damaged book to another customer. I also can’t understand how a business would express that frustration in front of a child. We then stop our browsing and leave feeling unwelcome. My wife decides to go back in and explain the situation again to which the man that expressed frustration simply walked away in the midst of the explanation. Never have I been so upset at the way a situation was handled by a small business. We will never step foot in this shop again and highly discourage anyone else with children to patronage them as well. This shop should be ashamed...

I collect books, old and new. We where so disappointed to find out literally 80% of the items we where interested in weren’t even for sale just “display only”. Their is more signs saying not for sale then items for sale, when approaching one of the I assume owners, trying to see if a item was for sale because nothing was marked all he said was “nope” as my boyfriend walked towards him with the item. Though the woman up front told us all the vintage posters we see and books where all for sale, the one I was interested in, that was in the store was “not available currently”. And also, the only thing even remotely themed is that books are sold and their are raven statues throughout the store. There is a nice old antique bookstore right around the corner called Mcintosh book shop and it’s wonderful....

Maybe I would try it again based on the positive reviews I am reading from more recently… I am hugely into reading and have been a lifelong bookworm. I love independent bookstores and always want to support them. I was excited when I saw this store years ago, as it seemed like a unique and special bookstore with lots of personality. Unfortunately, I was really disappointed with my experience there. At the time, I was in my late 20s and brought my brother and his friend in with me - who were respectful boys in their late teens. The associate seemed extremely judgy and anxious to have us present in the store, and followed us around closely like she was worried we were going to break something or do something wrong.
