I had the opportunity to dine at Plums in Beaufort, SC, recently, and let me tell you, it's a culinary gem. Kicking things off, I tried their flounder po-boy, which easily ranks among the top fish sandwiches I've tasted. Add in the perfectly cooked, generously portioned fries, and you're in for a serious treat. We also sampled the crispy pork wontons. Unlike your standard Asian fare, these were loaded with pulled pork BBQ, encased in a delicate pastry shell, and topped with a sweet smoked bacon jam. Served with a side of remoulade, the wontons were an unexpected delight, merging different flavors and textures into one delicious package. My wife, on the other hand, thoroughly enjoyed the curry chicken salad sandwich, a unique twist on a traditional favorite. The blend of curry flavors hit all the right notes, making it a standout choice. And the drinks? Absolutely top-tier. She savored a wonderfully balanced sangria, while I relished the day's special - a refreshing watermelon mule, just the ticket for a summer day. In short, if you're on the hunt for a place that offers fantastic food, stellar drinks, and a relaxed vibe, Plums is your go-to. It's a dining experience that hits the spot, leaving you eager for a return visit.

Okay, what follows is a long essay on "don't eat here" it's expensive and just not good. I'm sure this place used to be good, but the best way to explain it is "they don't serve Heinz or Hunts ketchup" it's food service grade, which trickles into other things. Bread on the sandwiches? Basic whole wheat sandwich bread. Not an issue unless you're paying $16 for a sandwich. Fries? Same thing as with the ketchup, definitely not worth the price. Service? Also horrible but not due to the fault of the staff. There was a lot of staff but management had them running around ineffectively. It seemed as though the normal staff were leaning heavily on summer teenage staff to do work, so the same girls for the host were also bussing tables. Then it took 30 min for our food to come out and the only cooked part was a burger. Everything else was chicken or shrimp salad. They then proceeded to send out a burger for another table with our order, but also say my chicken salad wasn't ready yet. How? Food? Just no. They were out of shrimp and grits. The chicken salad sandwich was bland, no flavor, only enough for half a sandwich. Shrimp salad sandwich was pretty good though. Not enough to go back.

My dining experience at Plum in Beaufort was disappointing, with the food falling below expectations and a billing issue that left a negative impression. The hamburger was a standout, well-prepared and flavorful, making it a bright spot in the meal. However the shrimp po’ boy, which I was eager to try, was a major letdown. The bread was a stark white instead of the golden, crispy texture you’d expect from a well-made po’ boy, and it lacked any notable flavor, making the dish feel flat. The shrimp and grits were equally unimpressive, missing the rich, soulful taste that defines this Southern staple. Overall, the food quality didn’t live up to the charm of Beaufort’s dining scene. Additionally, we were charged an automatic tip without clear notification, leading us to tip again unknowingly. This lack of transparency was frustrating and felt deceptive. Plum has potential given its location, but the kitchen needs to focus on improving dish execution—starting with properly baked, flavorful bread—and the staff should be upfront about billing practices. I hope they address these issues to elevate the experience for future guests.

This place used to be good. It used to be my favorite lunch spot downtown since Panini's plummeted. I took my family (visiting) there for the first time in a year (I rarely go downtown anymore) and my husband and I were shocked at how they've gone downhill.

The service was pretty bad. We waited almost an hour for our food and when it finally arrived, we realized we didn't have any silverware. After waiting for our waitress to come out of the kitchen for what seemed like forever, we flagged down a hostess for it. A few more minutes went by and the hostess never came back. Finally our waitress did so we asked her for the silverware. 8 minutes after receiving our food, we finally got to eat. It was then that I realized inside my sandwich was wrong. Waited a few more minutes. Finally got the right one and our drinks didn't get refilled once until she brought the check, but at that point we were all ready to go. We'd been there an hour and a half and our drinks had been empty for over an hour. We couldn't even find her to flag her down. It was Sunday at 3pm and not busy in the slightest.

The food was NOT the same par of food I use to rave about. The shrimp was super mushy and 3 people got it and couldn't eat it. My dad ordered fried shrimp and said it didn't taste like anything- no seasonings at all (he is the least picky person when it comes to any food). I highly recommended the lowcountry boil because I used to visit downtown just to order it. I grew up eating it and Plum's by far used to have my favorite. 2 people at the table ordered it per my recommendation, who wouldn't finish it. The mushy shrimp paired with literally not a stitch of seasoning (it used to be covered in Old Bay and fairly spicy) but just smelled like shrimp- and my 13 year old brother who will eat you out of house and home wouldn't finish his meal and was still hungry afterwards. My sister and I got the same sandwich- the club sandwich. Used to be really good but just tasted like meat and lettuce on bread. I remember it having avocado and honey mustard (advertised that it did) but it was bland and I brought half of it home to eat later so I could doctor it up. I added the honey mustard and avocado myself and it was much better.

Overall, I will not go back anytime soon. I'm very saddened they have followed in Panini's footsteps and slid so...

First the 1 positive, the food was okay, we had the Reuben and the Crab Cake Burger. But the 6 negatives outweighed the positives: (1) We entered the restaurant from the water side and took a table. I went to the hostess to confirm if this was OK (there was no sign indicating we should check in with the hostess). She said OK and would bring us menus. We waited and a waiter brusquely challenged us on whether we had checked in with a hostess. I said Yes and pointed her out. He walked off and she came to our table and asked what he had said to us. We told him and she confirmed we needed to wait in queue. This seemed like some kind of power play and was not a good start to our visit. (2) With a long wait for outside, we opted for an inside seating. Our new waitress, Brianna, came to the table, we ordered drinks and asked if there were any specials. She said she would normally have told us, but "we had jumped ahead of her" (Brianna was stressed our entire time, she kept apologizing to her tables about printer problems and spilled a tray of drinks to another table). (3) On receiving our food we asked the person delivering it (not Brianna) for silverware. He delivered 1 set, saying that was the last one. Other tables around us had to consistently ask for silverware. (4) Food delivery was slow, 35 minutes. The table of 3 next to us waited their entire meal for one of the 3 to receive her chicken salad. (5) We were seated in the middle of the dining room, it was very cold. There were other cleared tables so we moved to a warmer corner. (6) By this time we were very disgusted so when we asked for a refill of our water, Brianna delivered a new disposable cup & straw (needlessly adding to the Beaufort landfill). This may have been an "OFF" day at Plum's, but we...

Our experience tonight started out as pleasant and turned horrible. We were a party of 4, we ordered basic meals. Crab cake , soup of the night-tomatoe clam basil, chicken salad sandwich, hambutger medium with bacon lettuce mayo and a side of aioli sauce and a glass of wine. The restaurant had numerous tables open at 7:12 pm so the wait for our meal should not have taken too long. It took way too long to get the wine from a bar that was not too full. Our food came .... the soup was not even Luke warm and it was the wrong soup, and the burger didnt have bacon or the side of sauce. This after waiting over 45 minutes and the server came out after a very long time to say it was going to be out shortly and it took awhile after that. I had to get up and find the server to inform her of the problem. I also had to get upagain and find the manager because it took so long to get the bacon, side and a hot bowl of soup. The soup is already in a pot warming, the bacon is already precooked and the sauce is in the fridge premade. Not sure why we had to wait even longer.... the manager was not helpful at all. The soup should have been a priority in the kitchen as one member of our party didn't even have food in front if him. The server at this point didnt even want to come to our table. The manager eneded up being very rude and extremely unprofessional. She should never have argued with or made the customer feel as though they were wrong. I would never go back or recommend. The food was just ok....the service e was horrible and the lack of Management professionalism highly lacking. The owner should re evaluate his management staff and her...
