Overall, my 21 night stay was a positive experience. But there are definitely somethings that can be improved on. The staff as a whole was extremely pleasant, particularly the front desk. Literally every person I interacted with were nice and helpful, and seemed to genuinely care about your experience.
The first room I was in had a broken fridge but that wasn’t a huge issue for me. The room itself was large and spacious, and plenty comfortable. The water pressure was kind of crazy, especially in the sink so it always made a mess when I used it. I immediately noticed a huge stain on the couch and a musty smell but it wasnt awful and I had no use for the couch so I ignored it. After the first two weeks, that smell intensified and started to smell more and more like pee. I have a feeling someone had a pet in the room that was peeing and they probably didn’t even know it. When I brought it up to the front desk, they quickly moved my room with no issue. I don’t blame the hotel at all because it happens, especially when you offer pet friendly rooms. What matters is that they addressed it quickly when I brought it up and were extremely kind. I was nervous that they’d question why I waited two weeks but truly I just didn’t want to be problematic. Plus it genuinely wasn’t that bad until it started getting muggier outside.
My second room was the same as my first just mirrored and had better water pressure and a working fridge. The only issue I had with this room is that everything felt damp and humid all the time. The carpet, the bedding, my towels never dried. Even the tile flooring was slick. I know this happens in humid areas, but there’s gotta be some way to mitigate it.
My biggest “issue” was with the cleaning services. When I checked in, I checked in online and opted for the every other day service since I was going to be there for awhile. I checked in on a Tuesday and by Thursday, one of the staff members asked if I needed anything and I said no, that I just had some trash I would set out. The next day, my bed was made for me. At some point, I was given fresh towels too and that first Saturday they had knocked on my door asking if I needed service which I said no. After that, no more service. I think my towels were swapped again and my trash was taken out but that was it. By Friday I was wondering why they weren’t coming by to clean my room or make my bed, or swap the sheets. I asked one of the staff members in the hall how often they swap the sheets and she said about every three days. But mine had for sure not been swapped for at least a week. She offered to do them and it was done the next day. The entire exchange was pleasant, no issues. But then again, that whole week no service. I think I received towels once that following week? This was the point where the smell was getting stronger too so I was like maybe it’s intensifying because the room hasn’t been cleaned? I don’t know. This was the point that I had gone downstairs to ask about it. When I mentioned the room not being serviced, I was told that the room was listed as “by request only” for service. This was weird since I had opted for every other day but I’m sure it’s a glitch in the system and no ones fault. The front desk said that she’d have them do a full service on the room and inspect the smell and if it didn’t improve to let her know and they’d swap my room (I ended up swapping the next day). They did service my room, but I don’t know that it was a full service because some surfaces were not wiped down and you could tell certain areas were not vacuumed. But not a huge deal.
My final gripe is that I don’t think that the gym is ever really cleaned and there are no sanitation wipes to clean equipment ourselves.
Regardless of these “issues”, it wasn’t a bad stay at all. The pool is nice. The location is great. The hot tub was broken but you could go over to the Hampton next door...
Read moreHorrible horrible stay. You will not get amenities advertised and paid for. Got there at 2:55 to check in and front desk clerk is announcing to everyone waiting that she cannot check us in until 3:00 pm on the dot. Never seen this before but ok, so we decide to go park the car and grab a few things from the store to avoid the check in crowd. We get back at 530. The lobby is still full of people waiting to be checked in. I am told there are no rooms clean at this time to check but encouraged to go through the check in process so that when a room is available I would be called right away. So I go through the check in process and let the clerk know, my husband and I had reservations at 6:30 and needed to shower and change clothes. She said the room would be ready by 6. So we wait, 6:30 still no room. 7pm still no room. However we are noticing people who are just arriving to be checked are allowed to check in and received the keys to their room. Meanwhile myself and several others waiting for a room are still waiting. Coincidentally, we were all of color and keys were being immediately giving to others who did not look like us, maybe not so coincidental. So we get back in line and I’m made go through the whole check in process again and give my phone number and email. We’re asking how long has the room been ready and we see a list with about 15 rooms on it and our room Was number four however all the other rooms on the list has been called-except ours. I’m asking about this and being told what was the process of notifying me that the room was ready. I’m told we were going to call you, I’m like how when you just asked me for your phone number. I’m then told they was gonna look up my email by the reservation. Then the front desk clerk who initially checked me in comes over and says nothing to me but tell the lady checking me in that what happened with my room was a mistake in her part and that she would explain. I never received an explanation. I requested a glass of wine and I guess that was supposed to compensate for this who incident and my husband and I missing our rehearsal Dinner reservations. Not to mention the room was not cleaned properly when we finally get to it. Dirty cups in the fridge. Hair on and in the bathroom sick. No toilet paper and 1 towel. The hot tub was not working at all. We were told to use the next door hotel hot tub. No pool towels although we called 2 times as well as did another couple out there waiting for towels. The towels never came. We left cold and wet after waiting 45 minutes for pool towels. Worst thing is the hot tub was broken back in Aug of last year when my daughter and I visited so this time I called the day before to make sure it was working and they lied and said yes. There were people at the pool area that had been there all week saying it had not been working and they had been using the hotel next door....
Read moreFront end staff and location are superb. You can't really complain about that at all. Parking is no nonsense as is entry/exit. The white sands/brown waters of the gulf are about 20 seconds away from the hotel. I add the "brown water" because most people associate white sands with blue waters, but that isn't the case here. If you want bluish water and white sand, take a boat to Ship Island, it's only a ten minute ride and you'll be glad you went. It's one of Mississippi's hidden spots.
I was in #606 and it smelled horrific. It was a mix of stagnant mildew, covered up urine (can't tell if it was human or animal) and some really offensive, cheap air freshener. Usually in a stale hotel room, a few sprays of Le Labo Santal 33 into the air intake will perk it right up, but not this room. The odor permeated everything—even my zipped-up luggage. There were also no bath towels in the room, but I didn't make a big fuss but such a lapse in housekeeping could really cause a headache for a family or someone who needs those bath towels. The glasses were both filthy and recently used and haphazardly wiped down (probably with a toilet towel knowing how this property is cleaned).
You can tell this hotel is heavily used and is worn-out in many areas. Upon check-in, the lobby smelled like a municipal restroom. It was pretty nasty. Luckily, this was just a halfway stopping point for me and not a destination. I feel sorry for people who get #606 as a destination room. It definitely needs some heavy maintenance.
The hotel is also very loud as the door closers in all the rooms allows the doors to close very loudly. So, if you like to sleep past 6 am, this isn't your hotel. Door closers can be adjusted easily, but it takes know how, regard for guests and about 30 seconds per door. I guess this hotel is too busy with other stuff to be concerned about guest's sleep quality.
Apparently this hotel has had many water intrusion problems in the past that have not been addressed or remediated properly. I'd hate to see a mold inspection report on this property because I bet that's what the offensive air freshener is trying to cover up.
This is also a property not frequented by many Hyatt Globalists as the 1600 checkout, while given, is not honored. You'll still get intruded upon promptly at 1145. I've found that the 1600 is honored and followed only by properties that are used to it.
Bottom line, good location, but needs improvement in many areas, but people who do not travel frequently will still consider this a "great" hotel as they don't...
