Beautiful scenery from afar, excellent beach access with easy parking, relaxing area to soak up the sun but I would not recommend swimming at the beach in Biloxi, Ocean Springs, or Gulfport. Photos of the water here can be deceiving because up close in person the water is brown, full of black floating bits, and you cannot see through it. It stunk really bad leaving everything we got wet smelling like stagnant aquarium water. Digging in the sand stired up a nauseating gassy sewer odor. Every so many feet there a huge drainage pipes that completely ruin the vibe. I would have never let my kids in the water had I known those are the runoff for the storm drains. Yuck! There was glass and trash all throughout the sand in multiple areas down the coastline so I wasn't surprised when my daughter ended up bleeding from her foot getting out of the car at one of the parking areas. She didn't just step in glass though, it was a broken piece of a drug pipe. That was the final straw. Do yourself a favor and go the extra miles to Pensacola or Gulf Shores. There are cleaner waters in Biloxi apparently but at $40+ a person to travel out to Ship Island by ferry, I just didn't see the sense in paying that when it didn't even cost that much in gas to go to Florida and back. I should have known something was up when you could drive for miles down the beaches in MS in and there were barely any people...
Read moreGreat place for a mini vacation with the family. Just went out for Cruising The Coast and it was great. Plenty of cars and trucks to make you feel as if you have slipped back into the 50s, 60s, 70s and even the 80s. Plenty of casinos, souvenir shops, good eateries and places to hang out with the kids. The kids loved the sandy beaches but with the advisories being reissued we werent about to let the kiddos in the water. I would recommend it. Will add one thing, I read an article today that covered the issuance of citations for the residents and businesses that put up "Welcome Cruisers" signs. I understand minimizing the blight and trash in the area. If not taken care of it could end up in the streets, beaches and water however this is a huge event that brings a great deal of money to the area. Biloxi benefits from these events economically and financially in more than one way. It was reported that approximately 8900 vehicles were in the area, the residents and businesses are kind enough to welcome them. Doesn't seem fair to penalize them for participating in showing the folks that traveled to the area that they appreciate the business. Maybe I read an article that didn't cover it all. Other than that it was awesome and I plan...
Read moreMade made beach. Out side the water it's a beach. Sand litter on the waters edge etc. the weather was 76 degrees at the first week of February. The where only three other groups at the beach when we got there. We had planned to cool off and hang out a bit. The water was fine, a little dirty brown but that was probably due to the wind. If you plan to enjoy this beach bring water shoes. The natural push and pull of the waves has revealed every single small stone and rock that hid in the sand. I found walking on these rocks to be very uncomfortable. Probably like 4 feet from the waters edge and you are walking on gravel. I'm sure this changes as they add more sand or after a storm hits but when we went I did not want to wander out past the gravel bed. We did not explore the whole beach but on the other side of the small concrete pier the sand was better. I hope they fix this as these beaches has a number of amenities like a big fire pit and areas with shade structures over them. I'm sure in the summer the place...
