We used this company at the beginning of the year and had a wonderful experience. As soon as we got home, we booked again but decided to try a different cabin. We loved the first cabin we stayed at, but my husband wanted to fish, so we found Bear Creek Hideaway that advertises trout fishing in the creek. ||From arrival, we could tell no one had come out to prepare the property for us. The outside was covered in cobwebs, spider sacks and an obscene amount of leaves. The driveway is at an incline and the first time we left the property our tires spun out on them. The fire pit and horseshoe area was completed covered by about a foot of leaves. We went out and bought a rake so that we could clear the driveway, clean up the area and use the outside amenities. The firepit is not well maintained and there is no outdoor lighting (other than porch lights) - so we only used it during the day.||The pictures advertised are during spring time and make it seem as though the cabin is private, however- it is not. There are 3 houses in the same location, two on the other side of the narrow creek. There is also a "neighborhood dog" named buddy that roams freely. Although this might be ok with some people, he approached my small child barking and also used our property as a bathroom. The last two nights we were there, the property next to ours was out shooting and there were constant gun shots throughout the day.||The inside of the cabin is decorated super cute. However, I was a little disappointed that there was no holiday decor. ||The house was clean-ish, again- I could tell no one came out to prepare the property. The last guest signatures were 10/31 and we arrived 11/24 and there was no date on the last cleaned card only the words "Enjoy." Also, the time change occurred 11/3 and all clocks were still on Spring time. The cabin was dusty/cob-webby and there were dead bugs scattered all about. Bathroom light was out, and we found lightbulbs in the kitchen to replace it ourselves.||Kitchen - small refrigerator. Not terrible but we came for Thanksgiving and had to use a cooler for the first two days to keep our excess food in. Also nowhere to store dry food, no extra cabinet/drawer space. They only supply a few dishwasher tablets and garbage bags - we blew through those the first 3 days, and you are responsible for any you need in excess of.||Main Bathroom - toilet gave us issues, had to call for maintenance multiple times. Very inconvenient that it was not fixed the first time. ||Bedroom - no TV||Living space- no glass on fireplace and safety screen was broken as it kept falling off track. Had to leave basement door open for internet to work - when it did. We had multiple times of internet failure.||Basement- Freezing! Weird cricket-looking insects came up through every drain - keep them closed or place something over it when not in use. Game room has seen better days. Most games are missing pieces, air hockey barely works and the darts are a joke. The washing machine gave me issues with draining so some loads had to be re-spun. ||TV downstairs was not plugged in when we arrived. When my husband was trying to get it started, he was having an issue getting the remote and tv going. He accidentally subscribed to a channel on the home-owners account. We received a call about this and that is when I advised we didn't know how to set up the system and the owner could just call and remove it as an accident. I was advised that she would call the company but if they didn't take it off, we would be charged. I was not concerned with the $10.95 charge and assumed the company would remove it, but I did take that opportunity to tell the office about the state of the property upon our arrival. There seemed to be no concern on her side that I advised of how we bought a rake (which we had to leave there) and that I spent the first day cleaning what should've been cleaned before we got there. There was more concern over the TV charge than our experience. Which, why would you not password protect purchases on your account?!? ||The cabin is great and it served its purpose for us, but it just wasn't what we were expecting. We had a standard set with the first rental we went with and this just fell...
Read moreFor the last few years my family and I have rented cabins from Mountain Top Cabin rentals for our family vacations each year without any issues. I recently rented a cabin months in advance for myself and 7 others to celebrate my birthday. A deposit was paid and the cabin was booked. A few weeks later I received an email, not a phone call to advise me that my cabin of choice was no longer available. I was told that there was only one other cabin (Echo Lodge)to accommodate 8 people during the dates that I had requested, and it would be an upcharge. Since all nonrefundable flights were booked and paid for by this time we decided to book Echo Lodge and paid the additional money. When we arrived at our cabin Echo Lodge we noticed huge moving ants all over the floors, ants on the counter tops in the kitchen area. Ants were in the bathroom toilets and showers. Ants were in the beds. Spiders were hanging from the fans in the rooms over the beds. Dust was everywhere and it was a total nightmare for me and my other guests. There were bug bait traps all throughout the inside of the cabin , which means that Mountain Top Cabin rentals were fully aware of the issues in advance, but yet they still offered to rent me this cabin without making me aware of the infestation issues with Echo Lodge. I immediately contacted the company to advise them of the issues as this was a total nightmare for me and my other guests. I was told that the company was already aware of the ant issues hints the bug bait traps everywhere in the cabin. I was told that I would need to contact the office during business hours and that he would come out to the cabin and spray the following day. I was told that they were already waiting on an exterminator to come out there weeks ago, but they didn't know when that would happen. The following day I called the office and I talk with Ms. D Taylor who claimed to be the property manager. She advised me that there was absolutely nothing they could do for me. I was told that the huge ants are harmless and that I could go purchase some bug spray. The company only offered to reimburse me for the bug spray amount which I never received. I was told spider webs and dust would come back immediately after they dust them down so they would not be doing anything about that issue as well. This cabin appeared have not been maintained by the amout of bugs, dust, spiders and spider webs inside of EchoLodge. At times during our cabin rental experience in Echo Lodge, we would find ants and other bugs crawling on our legs and backs. Don't waste your money or time renting from this company as they don't value their customers.
Update: In response to the owners response to my review dated 07/23/2021. There was not and still has not been a single solution offered to us as it relates to the bug issues or overall experience we had with that cabin. It is still unclear to me how the company feels that they assisted us...
Read moreMy husband and I chose to visit Blue Ridge for the first time this past week, celebrating our 4th Wedding anniversary. We chose Mountaintop Cabin Rentals and stayed in the Refined Rustic cabin. My husband and I work extremely hard, so we wanted something quiet and isolated - this cabin did NOT fail to follow through on that. As we approached our cabin, we could not contain our excitement. The isolated, wooded setting was everything we expected (each day, a family of deer would come "visit" us -from afar- as we sat on the porch enjoying coffee and nature). Our cabin was clean and welcoming - everything we needed was provided for us. Our visit was the perfect amount of fun and relaxation. Our cabin was really TOO large for just us two, but the amenities and ambiance were so appealing that we absolutely do plan to return, making sure to stay at the same cabin. In the future, however, we might bring one more couple with us to experience this getaway, as the cabin is perfectly set up to enjoy time in the cabin. The rental and check in/out processes were easy and efficient. All questions I had - whether I knew I had them, or not - were answered (either by email, phone, or the written information left in the cabins). The only reason I'm not giving our stay a 5 is because of a few (minor) inconveniences. Two propane tanks were, indeed, left at the cabin, but only one contained propane, and I'm not even sure if it was full, as by meal 3 we'd run out of propane in that tank). The bed in the master was quite uncomfortable. The mattress was very firm - which might be a positive for some, but my husband and I are accustomed to a softer mattress. In addition to that, the sheets were extremely hard and uncomfortable. An easy solve for that would be for us to just bring out own during future visits. And, it would have been a nice addition if the patio doors had screens, so that anyone sitting in the den could commune with whoever might be on the patio. I realize that aside from the propane tanks, these are just matters of personal preference. But, it doesn't hurt to offer suggestions. Again, we THOROUGHLY enjoyed our visit. I went tubing for the first time ever in my entire 40 years, and Mercier Orchards was the most beautiful 'treat' I've ever seen/tasted; I could have bought EVERYthing in that place! Our "home way from home" was pleasing...
