Before I went to the Jolly Roger restaurant I read the reviews as many people do before they try a new restaurant. Some of those reviews were very unkind, so I went to the Jolly Roger to see for myself on January 6th. It was fantastic. The food was fantastic. The selection of seafood was fantastic. But, I didn't write a review. I wanted to go another time to see if there would be a consistency from one visit to the next.

I went again, a week later on January 12th. FANTASTIC again! You can see the photo of my shrimp and scallops dinner. It tasted as good as it looks!!! I'm from Miami and would LOVE to have a place like this near me.

My wife had fried oysters on her first visit and swordfish on her second visit. As a seafood lover from Long Island New York, she raved about both selections. If we lived in Blue Ridge we'd probably go once a week for our seafood fix.

Please don't let those few negative reviews deter you from the Jolly Roger. The people of Blue Ridge are very lucky to have place with such great and fresh seafood in town.

PS...the staff were super friendly and could not have been more welcoming. For me, it was amazing to find such terrific seafood in a small mountain town. I just love the Jolly Roger and you...

This was our first visit and we are so glad we decided to go to this restaurant!! It was busy so we sat ā€œoutsideā€, it’s totally screened in with fans and giant portable AC unit, it was very comfortable. The service was great! Everything came out much faster than anticipated! Our waitress with blonde hair (unfortunately we didn’t get her name) was awesome, very attentive even though busy, knowledgeable of the menu and a great personality to boot! The food was spectacular!! The fried oysters were some of the very best we’ve had, including those we’ve gotten in FL! The grilled halibut was the best I’ve ever had! The portions were very generous and everything was cooked to perfection! We will definitely be coming back on our next visit!! The only sign outside it a ā€œFresh Seafoodā€ on the lower front of the building, making it a tab bit hard to find, keep a keen eye out; you will not be...

Many places say they have fresh seafood but Jolly Roger is the real deal! This is beach food fresh and so delicious! We had the fried crab claws appetizer, fried shrimp and scallops combo meal, and fried trout meal. The crab claws are a little expensive but most places don’t have them so we hoped for the best and I’m so glad we took the risk! They give you a really good size portion and the crab claws were big, plenty of meat. Very pleasantly surprised! Our server was very nice and fast. We loved everything we ordered and will definitely be back!

The only reason it’s not 5 stars is for the seating area. There were a couple of flies that we had to swat away the whole time which was very annoying. Be advised seating is ā€œindoorsā€ but it’s more like a closed in patio, no a/c just fans. The food is for sure worth it though so if the seating bothers you, try a to-go...

We stopped here on a whim, and I'm glad we did! Great service and great food! They serve a wide variety of fresh fish, shrimp, scallops and crabs daily! And if you're not a seafood lover, they offer a variety of beef and chicken, and they cook it excellently! If you like a lot of seafood, the captain splatter is definitely the way to go! Service was excellent, staff were accurate and friendly. One thing to know, is that it did not smell like a typical seafood restaurant, everything was clean, and the place smelled fresh!

Pretty good. I had the blackened flounder sandwich with slaw. Fish tasted flavorful and not greasy. Good looking tomato, good fresh shredded lettuce and nice toasted bun. Slaw and hush puppies were ok… nothing to rave about. Husband had the grilled trout. They ended up blackening it. He said was little fishy taste, more than usual for trout. My sandwich was great price at $13.99. His trout was $18.99. Mine was better value. Nice outdoor covered seating… like a sunroom… I enjoyed looking out the windows.
