The allure of a drive-in and the quaint charm of the restaurant is cute, but the food didn't quite measure up. I came expecting the food to be as impressive as the old-fashioned country vibe and mirror-finish trailer it was cooked in.
I started with the hot dog, hoping something as basic would be a nice warm up for a larger sampling. I was really disappointed to find the dog and the bun were on par with the supermarket brand food you'd expect at a company cookout with free hot dogs.
The hamburger, advertised as being pattied daily, lived up to that claim. It was fresh-made because it fell apart after one bite, and the small bun (also on the level of your local Ingell's-brand), having absorbed all the grease, quickly turned the burger into a grease cake. The fries, while hot, rated similarly and had more salt than flavor. The cookie was tasty, but there was something about it that reminded me of a summer-camp cafeteria.
Lastly, I tried what a place like this would be known for: The BBQ sandwich. I really wanted to like it. I tried to like it. But even dousing it in sauce couldn't make up for the dry, overcooked pork.
At least the fountain drinks are tall and iced!
I'm tempted to try it again, but with so many other BBQ places in the area, it's a tall order. Just like...
Read moreWe came to this place by chance and we were so lucky to. I cannot stress enough how high above any of the other places we have eaten in the area this place performs. The two girls at the front window exhibit an impressive aire of customer service and they exude exemplary care and pride for their work. Our food was flawlessly prepared. The cook sent not only our food out on time but everyone I saw eat there. Everything tasted amazing as it looked, truly top notch. Last but not least the owner should be so very proud of not only their staff but the whole company itself. I eat at a lot of places and what this person has done is nothing short of extraordinary. They implement the pillars of quality to a masterful display of magnificence. Bravo. If you are a potential patron, do yourself a favor and eat here as much as you can. I travel a lot and places like this are rare as they are delightful....
Read moreI am from the South; furthermore, I lived in Blue Ridge in the 80s, and I've not eaten at The Trailer since, but I see all of these grand reviews, so I decided to give her a whirl, but I'm not getting it. The breakfast I chose was gravy and biscuit breakfast with eggs and a piece of sausage. The eggs and gravy had no salt or pepper that I could taste. The eggs are cooked in large batch and sit there awaiting orders; the eggs had brown spots from being over cooked, they were dry and flavorless to boot. The biscuit was good, but the gravy tasted like the first time I tried to make gravy; flour. Then to beat it all they don't have hot sauce.. What self-respecting southerner eats biscuit and gravy, or eggs...
